  • Such a great song and musicianship that there are no negative vibes coming on most comments and 97-0 like to dislike.

I have not seen this before.

    Sean was truly magical.

  • Thank You Great.

  • i've never heard major pentatonic used in such a creepy way Lane was the MAN!! Genius

  • 6:50 to 7:28: perhaps the most majestic, impossibly fluid single-string solo of all time. We shall never see the like of Shawn Lane again.....

  • 6:00 : This is the most beautiful solo i've ever listened.

6:52 to the end : This the greatest stuff i've ever listened, and probably the most impossible thing to play at the guitar.

  • The Number 1# . When i listen to a fantastic guitar solo i listen it couple times and i enjoy it. When i listen Shawn i listen some great solo 4 times then 10 times then i kinda unpack it and start listen some parts of it with extra focus and find some 20 second part better and soulful than allmost any other solo from other great guitarist. What i mean is that there is so much in his playing that i cant even digest that or contrast him with other guitarists.Every note structure is one of a kind

  • What a fabulous tone!

  • a great zawinul standard, however it makes me sad to know both shawn and josef are no longer with us.

  • i think this is originally a Weather Report song guys, almost positive

  • @mentaltilltheend "Black Market", from the album of the same name. Great record all around, and notable for being Jaco Pastorius' debut with WR.

  • Some of the best soloing i have ever heard. His "out" playing and use of chromatic's is exceptional! God, what a waste of such talent and love.

    R.I.P. Shawn and Lisa

  • Anyone know who the drummer is? He has a nice, light and fluid feel and this song is not easy to play.

  • @owlcu That is Sean Rickman on drums here.... awesome drummer!!

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos Is he the same drummer that played in The Evil Stepsisters with Paul Gilbert at MI? Thanks in advice

  • @owlcu

    Shawn Rickman was the drummer.

  • Who originally wrote this song? I read on Power Solo that Shawn didn't write this song.

  • I think it was Joe Zawinul.

  • You're right.

    Weather Report- Black Market.

Shawn's tone sounds close to the keyboard on the original song.

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos

That is correct. Originally performed by Weather Report, I believe.....

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos Yea, it's a weather report song.

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos I think you're right. Weather Report did a double album (I think at least partly live), that straddled the periods right before and after Jaco joined-a very special period and amazing album). Anyone serious about Shawn Lane should definitely also be a Weather Report fan, as he was.

  • @shadowknight132 ..check out Weather Report's recording by the same name. Jaco perfected this live on 8:30

  • Don't know if anyone have noticed, but guys like yngwie, batio, satriani etc, can be covered by youtube guys almost 100% and with good tone imitations..

but covering shawn lane, that's another story. his speed, perfect technique, tone & phrasing are untouchable

  • @Nilli4rock yeah there is something about him that you can't touch. he is just on a whole diferent level.

  • his charvel is soooo tastey!!

  • tasteful too

  • amazing

  • Some gorgeous playing on this song...holy shit.

  • I would KILL to be able to just play with him for 5 minutes, let alone a whole afternoon. Greatest player to have ever picked up a guitar, hands down.

  • Greatest musician who ever lived.

  • how so very true.

  • My friend andrew jammed with him at a national guitar workshop in conneticut the same year he passed away.

  • Great story i would have done anything to have met shawn he is definatelly the best there ever was, is and ever will be.

Your friend is very privileged to have jammed with the best i'm sure he knows that i imagine it is something he will never forget becuase i sure wouldn't.

  • where in CT was he?

  • New milford im pretty sure

  • this is so great

  • thank you a lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful playing by the master. thanks for your efforts uploading this.

  • many thanks

  • I had downloaded the audio for this sometime back and therefore thanx so much for this........

  • 3:36 go shawn go!!

  • I wish Shawn's clean tone were a little louder, but this is still brilliant - thanks for posting :)

  • wow such a great jazz funky piece i love the tone and the mysterious lines played absalutely loved it.

    thanks for the video.

  • Not to take anything away from Shawn, whose playing is perfect on this tune, but it is actually a Weather Report tune. I'm not sure if it was written by Jaco, Joe Zawinul or Wayne Shorter.

  • I'm very sure Zawinul was the writer for this one, Alphonso Johnson played bass on this track on the album as well as 4 others then left the band leaving Jaco to step into finish the album off and then officially join the band.

  • Thank you for the video!!!

  • Joe Zawinul would be proud.
