This isn't done with steriods. there are breeds of cattle that are known for their "double muscling" thats what this is. They have lean meat, but honestly isnt what the American consumer is actually looking for in the market. That would be why you do not see many of them in America. The marbling (intramuscular fat - fat in the muscle) is what gives a steak it's flavor. These cattle do not have fat to the degree where americans are interested in buying it. But again there are no steriods used.

There are plenty of examples of selective breeding that do produce sickly animals however (ranging from dogs to show pigeons), so it's not that your point is entirely wrong, but I would argue in this one case no harm has come to the bull :)

I just wanted to say quick that the first thing you said didn't really make any sense but did sound mean (not good!), and also that bulls are selectively bred for muscle :) If you search "meet the super cow" here on youtube there is a video with that title by national geographic explaining the process and showing more examples of this. I suppose you could still argue it is not 'natural' but then we would need to define what exactly qualifies something as natural.

Just for your interest: these cows have a defective myostatin gene. Myostatin inhibits muscle growth in mammals (also in humans), it makes sure we don't grow too large. Whenever an animals misses that gene, their muscle just keeps on growing. By selective breeding, they keep the ones that have the defective gene, to get the most out of one cow. More meat, less fat.
