  • It is a 4 cyl. It will be trounced and beaten by every 3 Series variant on the planet and every Nissan Z and crap Mustang will be crapping all over this car at every single stoplight. Oh, but it looks nice for the fanboyz.

  • Without side vents of a mid engine, and a rear longer than its bonnet, imo it will never turn heads as much as their beautiful spyder...

  • @tastypoohs hahaha spyder is the gayest of the gay out there lol

  • @ChiTownGlass not nearly as gay as you tho

  • I really like this video. I've found more up to date ones at Fast86.net

  • Nice! I just read about a turbo charged 86 on race way at fast86.net

  • I don't get it... Why show this bad ass concept, then change the actual car to look totally different? Why not just MAKE the car everyone loved??!

  • me likeeeeee

  • sounds nice and healthy. gj gj toyboata

  • RELEASE IT ALREADY!!!!!!

  • I actually like it, sounds like a healthy engine that breaths well. The point of the FT-86 isn't to be the fastest car ever, it's mean to be like it's predecessor, just enough power, cheap, fun, rwd, drivers car that can be bought with a modest income.

  • @bob333336

    so not a GTR killer?

wake me up when toyota gets off their ass and gives us performance enthusiasts what we really want.

If i wanted something with power, cheap, fun, & rwd.... Craigslist has plenty lol

  • @AjViShus It's a drivers car, a car for people who've grown up and realized that you don't need 9001 horsepower to have fun. For people that are practical, and want 37 miles per gallon out of a nimble fun to drive sports car. Something that can be easily daily driven. For people who prefer a balanced, fun to drive RWD car that doesn't break the bank, over ungodly amounts of power, and laptimes around tracks that you're never going to go to, that mean absolutely nothing. Craigslist ROFLMAO. xD

  • @bob333336

a drivers car? hahaha, anybody knows that they can make a drivers car out of a stout platform for much cheaper than this upcoming car. I dont' want to argue about new concept cars since their msrp will be super high since its new and people can get used Evo's and STI's for cheaper probably. This looks like a Hyundai Genesis wannabe. To us enthusiasts... it is a wannabe supra. oh and y u laugh at craigslist.. I found my cuzin a 600whp STI that he daily drives... laugh at that.

  • @AjViShus Yea I'm LMAO off at that, dailying a 600whp car? How stupid. Wannabe Supra or a Gensis? So that's it's called the FT-86 right? HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TRYING TO BE A MODERN DAY AE86, NO, that wouldn't make sense /sarcasm. They'll be around 22k for the base Toyota variant with 4 year bumper to bumper warranty. The car weighs 2,700lbs, and has middle front planted flat 4 @ 210hp meaning amazing center of gravity, LSD in the rear, 6 spd in the middle, and pulls 37-38MPG highway. Perfect.

  • @bob333336

LMAO over 350+whp @ 2grand more than the base toyota.

    with 4wd lol, later

  • @AjViShus AWD doesn't mean more grip, all it means is better corner exit speeds if you're a total fuck tard and don't understand the concept of throttle control and prefer to just jam the throttle down. Look at the lateral G ratings, if AWD was so much better, the Z06 with the Z07 package wouldn't have a ~1.2g skidpad rating (It can pull as high as 1.65G's on certain tracks, like on Laguna Seca's turn 10), while the GTR can barely scrape 1G. And a brand new car has 0 miles, and full warranty...

  • @bob333336

    ferrrsherrr bro.

I'll remember that next time a 4wd monster overlaps me at buttonwillow lol

  • @AjViShus Well if you understood anything, Toyota gave us the LF-A But your never going to afford it, you fukin' bum.

  • @Laitharex

most over-priced supercar lol, can't even catch a pre 2012 GTR in the quarter -___-

only thing it has is a beautiful v10 sound, but tests against its competitors it never goes home the winner. All that hype just to be beaten by 458 italia,GTR, and Porsche Turbo S almost 3x less in msrp haha.

  • I'de buy it.

    maybe...

And ditch that fucking Scooby F4 and drop a 2JZ into it or an RB26, make it a real car.

    Fucking toyota these days...

  • @ChickinSammichMan You are an idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • @ChickinSammichMan This isn't the only sportscar Toyota is planning to build, just the cheapest one for an entry-level RWD car.

Also, the chief engineer has gone on record as stating that the engine mounting points are EXACTLY the same as any Subaru EJ20 or EJ25 engine. That means you can just start with a WRX STI engine as a base, drop it into the car, crank up the boost and tune to your heart's content. Probably the only thing that won't fit is the top-mount intercooler. FMIC and bingo.

  • nah i dout it thats the sound for a boxer engine sounds too weak

  • when i heard that toyota was brinning back the AE-86 i was like 4AGE comeback but now let them bring back the one i want the GT Apex Model

  • Sounds like a Hyundai lol

  • @getyamindright91 listen to a non turbo impreza sounds like it

  • @LilNug that sound like that because it a subaru non turbo engine

  • So what do you guys like better? FT-86 or the FR-S?

  • This is not the sound of the engine that will be in the FR-S. Thanks for playing.

  • @DJSupraKidd This is in fact the sounds, which are pulled directly from the Toyota website, they have 3 different sound clips that are available for download.

Engine start sound, engine sound, and exhaust sound.

  • @bioguyver I stand corrected then!

  • sound isn't great.

  • By the way last I heard they are making an FT-86G that will have a turbo, and will also be introduced in the U.S.

  • But it true n waiting for my dream car that gtr time 2 start saving lol

  • Yo I love timers don't get me wrong but for about 30k can get new mustang gt 5.0 n dominate n 4 u guys who throw on turbos i just ordered a procharger so that's 165hp to the wheels not including my other stuff o n that supercharger don't hurt gas. Lol so Idk this is a beautiful car though was bout 2 get that new genesis n was considering this but drove that 5.0 n wow!!! Just when u put 2gether mustang wins sorry. Besides Ford made mustang more like tuner than American muscle n I no that crazy

  • @tathomas41985 Lol. Funny thing is, is that the FT-86 is lighter by a bit so with about 300 hp to the wheels it'll beat your mustang 0-60 if tuned right. All I would need is the 5k that I saved by buying an FT-86 to beat your mustang in the quarter. Plus it gets better gas mileage with turbo anyway by a long shot, and sounds better.

  • @tathomas41985

Ya see, the problem is this... I love the mustang and all that it stands for. I do. I truly do. BUT I can't use a V8 as my daily driver. Its just not worth it given the cost of gas. Don't get me wrong, I make enough money to pay for it, but I'd rather spend that money on something with a return on investment, like pay the mortgage off early. so 4cyl RWD is EXACTLY what I want to buy for my next car.

  • @tathomas41985 to be honest i don't really see the point in having such a mustang , although i do love them since i was little ...but it's also the difference between europe vs america probably ...overhere a smaller engine is just more useable. Nevertheless , who doesn't love the sound a a nice v8 ..and that pure all-american styling...surely a design to be proud of by ford-owners and a legend for years to come!

Nevertheless this toyota will be far cheaper here in erope f then a mustang .

  • Us scion model only rwd non turbo europe model all wheel drive with turbo iwish that car came to the states

  • if i were to buy this, first thing to do is debadge that stupid scion logo and throw on some toyota emblems.

  • I believe they are not making a turbo model partially because of cost but also because Subaru is rumored to be making a new WRX and it will most likely be based on this chasis so they don't want to produce a car that will be direct competion to a new model

  • The Scion FR-S is beautiful and remind in me the LFA (tailights, back end) instead the FT-86 looks ugly and very different from the Scion: what will be the definitive style?

  • Thats my next car

  • god those mirrors look like crap...

  • Which is it? Toyota or Scion?

  • @3089280288 scion is toyota.

  • @BabyLuva1001 I know that. It's the association of the target market that concerns me & why the hell does YT invert all the question marks?

  • hasn't been*

  • XlopenX Toyota has said 200 hp is about what it will produce read up on it if you don't believe me. nobody knows the exact horsepower because it hasn't be released simple as that but when they keep saying "about 200 hp" it doesn't mean 160

  • i cant believe they will put the scion symbol and not toyota

  • @tugaelf I heard it was to boost up Scion's sales.

  • Sounds like my corolla

  • Supra + Subaru = Subara.

  • Scratch the 300+ (turbo version)

recent news has basicaly said no turbo

  • @saxweasel basic model has 160 hp

  • @saxweasel fine by me...Throw a cheap holset hx35 on that ho and keep on flying.

  • Lightning McQueen?

  • しょぼい音だ

  • wow hope it will sound like the legendary screaming 4a-ge!!!

  • I wish they stayed away from subaru boxters...

  • @odessataity Really, and why would you say that?

  • It's not bad but, how much will carry over?...or will it get watered down?...

  • Awesome car, I now own a Scion tc, and plan on purchasing this one immediately when it comes out. This is now my affordable dream car.

  • @Chandler06tc yes maybe is affordable for your daddy : )

  • HACHIROKU!!! I'm happy Toyota is resurrecting the AE86 :D BUT I wish it would be badge'd a Toyota in the US cuz Scion is kind of a joke!!! It's time for Bunta to trade his GC8 for one of these!!!

  • Stock exhaust systems aren't designed to blow the windows off the car next to you. Its a good start that can be easily improved on by aftermarket intakes and exhaust systems if wanted.

The FR-S is shaping up to be a fantastic RWD coupe that will look fantastic and most likely have two trim levels.

    1. 200 HP with good gas miliage about 23k

    2. 300+ HP with okay gas miliage about 29k

one those who prefer gas over power

and one for us who like a bit more UMPF when we slam our foot down

  • @saxweasel 300+hp from the boxter engine out of the dealership? Idk?

  • lool that is bad

  • Toyota said They are aiming for great handling. They starting with a simple 4 banger because it will keep the cost down. Affordable sports car is what Toyota hasn't done since the 90s and many people will be happy to see it. I am sure it will be extremely turbo friendly.

  • the next HACHIROKU

  • I still think Toyota needs to have two versions. A V6 turbo model under the Toyota name to compete with the GTR35, with a base model V6 to compete with the 370Z, Genisis, Mustang, and Camaro... Then have the Scion version to replace the old rear wheel drive Celica's, and redo the tC to take the front wheel drive Celica position, to at least compete with the Civic Si.

  • If that is the concepts engine sound then the concept has a turbo...

  • at least it doesn't sound exactly like a Suby.

  • 200 hp? eh, nothing a turbo can't fix. honestly tho, the car should have a turbo from the factory. no sense in making something that looks as fast as a supra and it be as slow as a turd :/

  • The FR-S is a cute ricer with 2 liter engine and less than 200hp. Someone will have to tune it with forced induction to make it a racer. I expect to see Scion around high school and college campuses. No one with a thirst for power will buy it. Cameros Zs and Stangs with 300 plus hp will be their choice. Even Hyundai males a pretty little over 300hp sports car. Make it a roadster and compete with MX5, S2K and a series of other drop tops.

  • @m11811one dude.. the reason why its 2 liter 200hp is that there makin it affordable for the younger drivers. thats why is below 30k. this car should b the same price as a 2012 civic si. n im sure there gonna have aftermarket parts for this car knowing that this car is the new ae86. cameros z n mustangs are sick but price wise. its good to have a decent sport car that is below 30k finally

  • i have a thirst for power.. drive evo's with 500hp and have a subaru 95l with 260 hp and i would love to buy this car

  • It's going to have good mpg for a roadster the new report says.

    Right when gas hits $5.

People will be trading in their [X] sports cars and get this if that's the case.

  • I just heard a report of 197hp. If thats true, given the other qualities of this car, it'll be sporty, but def not a sports car. Sure to give the new si a run for its money

  • sti wrx are manual and they are everywheerrrre ya douch.

  • I WANT THIS CAR! I DONT CARE ABOUT GAS PRICES!!

  • i dont like how the front is beginning to look like a rx8, and i don't like how the back looks like a square now..

  • how do u know this is true?

  • its a glorified TC.. dont get your hopes up gay scion fans. You'll still get pwned by most of the camry's LOL

  • @smors20 Except that it has a Subaru boxer motor and includes a limited slip differential unlike most cars in this category which have E-difs.

  • @smors20 Thats so true.. I just beat a 2011 Scion TC with my 2002 Camry. Such a shame!!

  • 本当にこの格好で出るんなら俺は買うで。

    音もええやん、直4のしょっぼい屁音とは大違いや。

  • PRICE????? SCION does that = cheap? affordable?

  • Only comes in manual! I like! Since that eliminates all the fake drivers from the serious ones. I hope it come with a twin turbo 550 hp with 400 ft. pounds of torque.

  • @HW2800 LOL you wish!!

  • @HW2800 It's going to have a 6 speed sequential gearbox as an option.

  • not really liking the front. back looks nice tho =D

  • this is just a concept, the production version will be unveiled at the tokyo auto show this fall. it'll be sold as a Toyota outside the US, so just yank out that Scion emblem and slap on the Toyota one

  • stats? would be a nice piece of info....

  • Does not look like something Toyota would build 0.o ..Anyways it is a nice car =]

  • It's only a concept the production is going to look like crap

  • @dHmongDudecAncOOk Thats what the Toyota loves to do.

  • I love how most of the people who talk about a car not having enough power most likely couldn't handle a car with a lot of power.

Yes, going in a straight line fast requires power, and that's it. If you want to corner effectively power is NOT the most important part of a car. This car could have 200 horsepower and still be decently fast if done well.

I say offer different options. Low-end has lower power, say 180ish, then add higher power versions up to 300+

  • @Chaoshick seriously... kids these days dont even know how characteristics effect driving. anyone can push the petal to the ground and go strait. people are just ignorant.

  • i think i hear a Blow off valve anyone else?

  • I just hope they don't try and compete with the GT-R and make this $100,000. I want something I can afford!

  • AAAAAAND this thing is sexy as hell!

  • doesn't take power to make a car fun to drive. i drive an old 85 mr2 and nothing is near as fun as that car. this is the predecessor to the 86 and that car was about balance, light weight and a controllable source of power. going fast strait is cool i guess but going fast while taking a corner is the awesome. im just freaking happy that toyota is finally making REAL sport cars! we need some FR or even MR would be amazing!

and scion is toyota so saying scion is a shit brand is being ignorant.

  • Great another shit car every mid level family sedan can out perform.

  • This car better have more than 160 goddamn horsepower. And why, oh, why in the fuck did they decide to make it a Scion? Scion is a shit brand for poseurs and 60 year olds. Seriously, the only people who drive them are older people who want an economic car, and poseurs who join "psychotiks" car clubs or whatever and think that slapping on a suspension and exhaust makes them a tuner. This is an awesome car but I might have to wait for the Subaru version if it ever comes out.

  • @SkeksisRule agree about the scion fans, hope this car doesn't attract the wrong type of people aka posers.. I REALLY REALLY hope it comes exclusively in a manual transmission (despite the fact that an auto tranny option will make it sell MUCH MORE). This concept is what kept the posers, d-bags, average girls, away from the Honda S2000, a true sports car.

  • @IllegalsLeave Pretty much this. Ignore mantaraya hes full of shit.

  • How do you reserve a FR-S.

  • boxer engine gives good handling tnx to siting low

  • justy reserved one today ! will arrive june 1st 2012

  • @mantarayasurf wats the starting price on one?

  • @DownhillDestination $25 k to $31000!! $27k will b ethe magic number, I work for Toyota andspoke with factory rep assures em it will look jus like the concept but with smaller tires

  • no turbo.......... :-(

  • Weak. Just another Scion tc or Hyundai tiburon type vehicle. Too many of these weak small sports cars including the aforementioned, the miata, the civic si, eclipse, and cr-z. The camry v6 and tundra shouldn't be the fastest vehicles in Toyota's line up, and I bet they still are even after this car is released. A sports car should be faster than grandma's car. Give us a 300+ hp turbo version.

  • @IllegalsLeave You don't know the concept behind the 86. Let's just leave it at that.

  • @IllegalsLeave How can you possibly know that by listening to a rubbish muffled, emissions compliant exhaust system? seriously its still in the concept stage at this point and its not fucken hard to bolt on a couple of intake and exhausts mods and get it retuned with an aftermarket ECU, i swear the way you talk you must own a Scion TC

  • Dont need a turbo... most people who are so called "enthusiasts" cant drive for shit to begin with, this is as it was design to be an affordable rear wheel drive sports car, as of late they have been very rare and far inbetween... not to mention its not hard to bung a turbo on it yourself later you lazy sods!

  • ...needs....Turbo....too weak...basically a rwd civic si

  • @IllegalsLeave Engines different, stylings different, drive trains different, and alot more. Yeah its a car i guess thats the same?

  • Well I Live in AUS.. so we wil lbe getting the TOYOTA branded one. Too bad for all you US peeeps.

  • Scion's seem to feminine!!!

  • Why??? Not keep it original!!! Keep the legend alive. "Toyota Supra" baby!!!

  • Why? Scion IS Toyota. Don't like it, change out the symbols like all the other ricers do with their Acuras. Scion is Toyotas youth market group, because Toyota has worked very hard at making appliances with wheels. When the sportiest car your company makes is the Matrix, you're gonna have a tough time selling a sports car.

  • I'm so mad this isn't a Toyota branded car.
