  • But obviously, if Peking Taste fans, like Mr. Seth, demand the buffet come back, I think the owner and Tony could consider it seriously. Again, it was a very successful business. Those guys showed the best of the common Chinese people's intelligence and productivity,. You can't imagine how fast and accurately Chinese cooks cutting, stirring, and frying dishes. It is an art!

  • The reason they moved is not because there were not enough business, but just because the landlord of the building was determined to end the lease for some reason.

Why the new Peking taste is eliminating buffet? The parking may be a valid reason, because if the parking lot in the Louisiana Purchase is full of Peking taste cars, the other businesses would be very upset and complain, and the second reason may be that the buffet is not very profitable.

  • I used to work there. Those guys were working incredibly fast and professional, from cashier to chefs to drivers, all working like crazy. They should have prepared their food better, but because price range and so many customers coming in, they just choose not to. Even such, some dishes are still awesome, like BBQ chicken and pepper shrimp. Also, because so many customers, they could make price so low. All in all, quite a successful business. It is really sad that they were out.

  • I can't match your rehearsal dinner story... but I did take my parents out to Peking Taste to announce my wife and I were getting married. You can't do that over frozen yogurt. You are clearly on the right side of history here.

  • The closing of Peking Taste sent me into a deep culinary melancholy that I have not been able to shake. I think the new takeout option will make life worth living once again but I will never again experience the majesty of Peking sitting down.

  • I love this Seth! Thank you for sharing and bringing awareness to the loss of a great and tasty business in Lawrence, KS. I love all of the same items from Peking Taste that you mentioned in your video! This was the first place I ever tried Chinese food and it took my boyfriend forever to get me to go there, after I did I couldn't be torn away once I was inside eating the delicious buffet! Please bring back Peking Taste Buffet!

  • Hey Seth. Good stuff. I think you worked for me when I ran Willie C's Cafe in the mid-90's. Nice to see you again

  • Even having moved away from Lawrence, I sing (scratch that ... SANG) the praises of the Peking Taste buffet as the standard against which all other chinese food buffets should be judged. This is a cruel, cruel blow to the Lawrence, KS culinary landscape.

  • Whoops -- it was 16 years ago I was a freshman at KU, not 12. I was thinking of when I graduated, not when I was a freshman.

Thanks to the LJW for sharing the link to my video! Will Tony and the owners of Peking see it? I hope so.

  • i agree with you Mr. Jones! Please bring back the Buffet.

  • Couldn't agree more. Don't turn Chinese food into chess when it is clearly checkers. If you serve buffet, they will come. If you don't, you will probably be closed before you open!

  • Nice publicity in the LJWorld, Seth. Love the plea for a buffet! Citizens of Lawrence demand a buffet!
