Dark Gundam was the name given to it in the US dub as to keep from offending folks. God Gundam was changed to Burning Gundam, and the Death Army was changed to the Dark Army.

I like Burning Gundam better. God Gundam makes it sound like it's the best of all, and just sounds pompous. Plus, Burning fits the idea of giving the Japanese suits "adjective" names. Shining, Rising, etc...

But one of the previous Japanese Gundams was Yamato Gundam, which definitely isn't an adjective. Also, Nobel Gundam was originally intended to be another Japanese Gundam. And quite frankly, God Gundam WAS the best of all the Gundams, and it makes sense to want to have the best of the best. Besides, it was the Gundam that led the fight against the Devil Gundam.

Master Asia's want to eradicate humanity was a flawed interpretation of the Dark Gundam's wishes. He thought that by destroying humans, Earth would be protected, but he didn't realize that destroying any form of life, even human life, would have an incredibly drastic change to the planet.

In reality, we're like the scales of Earth: Without us humans to regulate things, it would take millions of years for the planet to sustain itself properly.

You're slightly incorrect in that.

He wasn't misinterpreting the Devil (that's right, I said Devil, not Dark) Gundam's wishes at all - that was exactly what IT wanted, and his own wishes coincided with that perfectly. The problem was, Devil Gundam was malfunctioning; when Kyoji took it to Earth, it was damaged, super-evolved itself, and decided humans were the problem.
