  • the most moving vid on youtube amazing!

  • The final image is amazing, that girls eyes are so piercing.

  • Certain images made me cry like the fireman holding the dead child in his arms, the Buddhist monk who lit himself on fire, the vulture watching the starving child. Just wow, I never seen some of those pictures before. Nice choice in the song.

  • The picture with the burning monk really struck me, i had never seen it before and I have to say i was a little taken back by it.

  • Great vid! But I really missed the first man on the moon :)

  • I hope The Falling Man was granted entrance through the Gates of Heaven, I wouldn't be able to choose between jumping to my certain death or staying on the tower and dying that way.

  • Very well done, A short glimpse into our not so distant history. I like how you put positive things in there as well. It gives me a little hope for the human race.

  • i remeber the first time i heard this song ... just by seeing the pics they actually made me cry especailly with the song i rly loved it very emotional and i guess some of us havnt took time to think about others lk right now and haidi and the earth quake it makes me think of how selfish i am me with a home and food and things while ppl r starving and getting everything taken away from them its just sad im glad u posted this video i truly am

  • You wouldn't blink if I died now, but people who know me, and have met me, would be (I hope!) more distraught. You empathise best with what you recognise.

The only thing I find annoying are the two pictures of Princess Diana. She never changed the world and the pictures are not as evocatuve as many others.

  • @Number69 The images of Princess Diana are juxtaposed with the other images to illustrate the common suffering of rich and poor.

  • the picture of Diana illustrates one of the most beautiful parts of her life before dieing in that car accident , the photo is well known in the UK as one that will make many cry for the loss of such a princess ...

  • She was one of the greatest humanitarian aid workers to ever live. She sparked the largest boom in charity work the world has ever seen, changing the lives of millions and dedicating her own life to improving that of others. How dare you undermine that with your ignorance. If you find that "annoying" you truely are a cretin.

  • @Number69 I disagree with you on Princess Diana. That picture with her and John Travolta really shows that she was someone who didn't deserve to die. In in another hard to explain way, she has changed the world.

  • this video is powerful it hits in many ways i am an american soldier deployed to kosovo and seeing that picture and how far the United States among other coutrys have helped this country and i hope afgahnistan will change as much as this country will so the whole worl knows my brothers and sisters who have died over there there death wasent in vain and the world trade centers was the reason i joined the Army god bless you all who have watched this and support us for what we do

  • How do you stop a War? I don't know.

:( Even now people killing and still dying.

  • i am sry for those who lost or almost lost some love ones all we lost was a job and i guess im thank ful it wasnt much greater we where in maui but then had to move to illinois cuz we lost the house to

  • Classic images, but couldn't you find a cheesier song? :D

  • jeez a lot more people should see this....its a shame stuff like this isnt on television...you know? people are so focused on material things and the latest fashions or who got eliminated on americas next top model or american idol.

  • Hi, I'm using some of these images in a presentation and I'd like to know:

where the viet cong photo, the challenger explosion and the afghan woman are originally from, if possible who took the photos.

    Thank you

  • The Viet Cong Photo was taken by AP photographer Eddie Adams for the AP. Not sure which Afghan woman one you want but photo #16 was taken by James Nachtwey-Magnum for Time magazine. The photo of the girl from the refugee camp (#30) was taken for Nat. Geo. by Steve McCurry. There is no author listed for the Challener explosion. It just says it was taken by a NASA photographer

  • What I wish one day is that people, instead of seeing other people and going to war with them as different people, should just realize that the world is infact at war with itself. It's not about the West, or the Middle East, or Far East, or North or South or Arabs or Americans or anything. It's one friggin planet, and we're all just killing ourselves. We're at war with ourselves, because in the end, we're still just one planet, shooting and bombing people on the same planet. That's all it is.

  • ...what?...racial acceptance means that you don't care about race not that it doesn't exist. arabic is a different language to english and black is a different skin colour to white. you're just ignorant to the difference in the world. I bet you have all the stuff you need and have nothing to do but complain about equality. war is usually about economical gain, not racism. Hippy.

  • The ones arguing a western bias do have a point you know. The world should be viewed, in it's entirety as one country, for we are one planet are we not? We are all different people yes, that's understandable, but trials and hardships are global, from the West, to the Middle East, Far East, North and South, all have suffered throughout history. This video is not, however, wrong in it's depictions. It is what it is called, "Images that Changed the World" regardless of who's view it is.

  • Where are the images of the American/ Isreali phospure bombs being dropped on Palastine. Where are the images of the carpet bombings of IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN and VIETNAM. etc etc Your images have a western bias.

  • i agree it should be all around the world

  • relax everyone the death and tragedys photographed are not a depiction of our resent history vs. past history. or a sign of how much worse things have gottin. This tube isa wonderful way to be reminded of those moving events that one can file in his " I REMEMBER THAT DAY AND WHERE I WAS WHEN THAT HAPPENED' memory bank.

  • I dont see why 9/11 has so many photos. It was a horrible event, but honestly, it is not as terrible event as it is made out to be. I honestly think other events are alot more horrible. What about the holocaust? What about the asian tsunami a year later.

  • Tsunami was not caused by humen, was natural!

  • What's wrong with you. Try saying that to a family that had a loved one dye in the collapse or was a firefighter trying to save someone's sorry ass like yourself. How can you live in America and just simply forget that this happened on your countries soil, like Pearl Harbor. Tell me how a tsunami is worse that watching 3,000 innocent people dying and there was nothing to do to help them.

**Friends lost in collapse of tower two: 3**

  • like i said, i'm really sorry about what happened that day but:

    3.000 < 213.000 (12.26.04)

so i think this IS worse. The difference is that were kind of used to seeing people dying and suffering in these regions (of terrorism, poverty etc), where as in the US, nothing ever happend really terrible. In general in the western countries we're used to see big numbers of dead persons in countries/continents like afrika, asia etc, but not in europe or the US.

  • That's why this happening in new york is such a terrible thing for the americans, cuz it's closer to you, more realistic, you can feel it, not just a thing on TV. because it happend to you, near you, not miles away in a far country.

(remember, i'm not saying that it isnt terrible)

  • i agree well its all west propaganda to make sure we don;t forget so they can keep attacking muslim nations and steal thier oil and gas. OPEN YOUR EYES

  • how dare you! Had you been in one of those towers I'm sure you would think differently. I thank my dieties that no one I knew or loved was there at the time. But I only live so far away. I could see the smoke. I had schoolmates who lost parent's and family members. My father lost friends. And everytime I go to New York, and go to ground zero, it's like a hollow graveyard in the middle of this living city. Open your eyes and see that somethings just aren't justified. What happened was disgusting.

  • Because 9/11 changed the world more than any of the incidents you mention, and the title of this video is.... ?

Of course there are other more terrible events in modern history, but I don't think any of them did more to change the world. What conclusion you want to draw from that is up to you.

  • Actually, that was only one of many to change the world. World War II, smart one? Vietnam? So shut up, you don't know what you're talking about. And I was effected by 9/11, almost lost my father and my parents lost very good and close friends. So don't say I don't know.

And that is not the point of this video. It's pictures taken themselves that are so famous they changed history. These are some of the most famous pictures in history, not the event itself. It's about photography.

  • omg the guy burned himself!

  • wow your smart! thanks for being respectful

  • first class...well done

  • that girl at the end has the prettiest eyes ive ever seen

  • Colombia's wort tragedy ever

    5:23 (Omaira Sanchez) R.I.P

  • lol Omayra Sanchez is not the girl at the end of the video buddy! Thats a girl from Afghanistan in the mid 80's. She made National Geographic famous...They call her Afghan girl! Omayra Sanchez had black eyes before she died, but she was still beautiful.

  • With the cost of the clothes of the child the prince harry of 3:41, the child of 2:55 might have fed and have survived.

why the life of the second child is most important than the life of the first?

    There is no logical response

  • you're so right. And that's why individuals like you and i have to work extra hard and not just feel pity but do what we can. Because those that have don't and won't. It's up to the individual choice. Please make the right one.

  • I just KNEW that the last minute would be spent on 9/11 photos, CHRIST, get over yourselves.....Had to go and ruin what was a decent job at having me empathize with shitty situations all over the world by smothering me with 9/11, ONE photo would have been enough. We get it, you're patriotic, don't make 1/5 of your movie about 911 when the title is 'images that changed the world'. lame.

  • Wtf... do u have any fucking clue what kind of shit went down on 9/11? I'm in fucking Canada and I remember watching the news over CNN and crying.

  • I think you're right, one photo would have been enough, but because all american people watch this, they feel so sorry because it was in their own country. Ofcourse, I dont come from the USA, so i care less. But it's no necessary to be rude or anything.

  • @Kuro2Neko okay...do you not realize that there are more than just 'american' photos?

  • You know, you're the only person on youtube that bothered to post this awesome song? It took me forever, but my search engine detective skills have finally prevailed! Hello Goodbye by Michale W Smith. THere, I wrote that so this song will turn up in search engines. Hello Goodbye. Michael W Smith.

  • cool kim phuc did a speech in my schoool today she is remarkable

  • YOU MET HER!?

  • the vulture picture gets to me.

  • National Geographic has two photos of her, one as a teen, the other taken of her in the last year or two (many years later) showing what the years and hard living had done to her.

  • what about the fall of saigon? The picture of all the refugees fleeing to the lone heicopter at the US embassy in saigon.

  • i think the last girl was on National Geographic.

  • yes she was...YEARS ago...they went back in a quest to find the girl...and they did...she was an adult now...they interviewed her you might be able to find it..you dont see her face thought she has a vale on.

  • 5 stars ;-((

  • amazing video. very touching and the music was very appropriate. great job.

  • the last girl was in the cover of The Times magazine if i can remember correctly..

  • that last ones eyes are so haunting

  • omg, who is that last girl? where is that picture from

  • She's from Afghanistan, I believe it was taken in 1979 during the war with the Sovjet-Union. Some twenty years later, the photographer tracked her down and took the exact same photo. She's obviously older in the new picture, but those eyes are just as impressive.

  • who is Omayra.

and the photographer that killed himself, what picture are you talking about???

who is the women at the end with the insane eyes??

  • Kevin Carter took the photograph of the starving child being stalked by the vulture (shown at 2:55)at a feeding centre in Southern Sudan in March 1993.Although it won him the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography in May 1994 it appears to have haunted him. On 27 July 1994 Carter took his own life. His suicide note read:"I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings and corpses and anger and pain ... of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners"

  • at 3:10 why are her eyes so red and her hands white?

  • Those pictures make me realize not to take things for granted. I love the picture of Princess Diana holding the African girl. She loves everyone regardless of race/ethnicity. She has such a great heart and I wish there are more people like her in this world. - USA

  • Did Omayra live?

  • unfortunately not. she could not wait until she was resqued. Her foot was trapped with death bodies and it was necessary a machine to resque her. The machine did not get it in time, but the cammeras yes. sad but true. most of her agony was followed by the rest of the world (where tv was available). I remember it like something really sad.

  • no dude ,, she died ,, she was very brave .. she knew that she is was goinng to died ,,,

  • i love the pic of the guy holding up the tanks

  • loved 4:47

  • I remember most of the photos...

what a silly world we live..

where is the sense, to destroy such a wonderful world?

How can a human kill another?

    GG,germany

  • huevadas

  • that was powerful

  • 2:58............speechless..........

  • yeah that one got me

  • the child died later on, and after winning an award, the photographer killed himself of guilt.

  • the world is crazy and great video man

  • the ratm album cover should be one there. the one of that guy burning himself to death publically in protest of american support of south vietnam in 1963

  • it is you tool

  • Humans are much like crabs. If you take a bunch of live crabs and put them in a pot of hot water. You WON'T need a lid. If one struggles its way to the surface. The others will simply pull it back down.

  • i also watched this expecting to see Kim Phuc, the naked running girl in the picture of vietnam war... it was partly due to this photograph that the american people started reacting to the war and realizing that it should be over... luckily , now she's a great woman from what I know...

  • 0:25

    is THE picture

  • i viewed this with the hope of seeing the image of the Afghan girl with astonishing eyes and there it was, right at the end........humans can be bastards

  • Notice how the majority of these images are act of violence and death? Its sad to see the only thing i see that has changed our world is violence and death

  • Well there's the Flower Power thing and Tank Man...

  • Too much WTC stuff in this.. other countries have suffered FAR worse... 3,000 people is huge but america's dealt that and then some to other countries, innocent people.

  • 911 was tragic, but we also have to realize that thousands of kids starve daily and there are a lot of injustices in the world that we have to fix

  • The World is crazy ...

  • Ignorance Breeds Fear. Fear Breeds Repression. Repression Breeds Retaliation. Retaliation Gives Birth To Revolution. An Endless Cycle Until One Finds The Solution. So Here We Go Prepare Your Soul. The Dismal Tide Is Rollin' In. Keep Your Chin Up Above The Line. We Will See Dark Nights Before The Light. Serve Only Love And You'll Survive The Flood. So Happy Heresies To All And To All A Good Night.
  • these images did not change the world. however these images did change indiviuals. the rest of the eople are forgetful or just ignorant and too busy in having fun.

  • cant agree more

  • I lost a firend on spetember 11, 2001. he was so excited to go see the twin towers.... i had known him for about 2 years...

  • i had a tear in my eay when i saw the starving kid...(2:56)

  • well done video. Makes you stop and think.

  • well done. a very sad, moving video. Some frightening things do happen around us in this world. this is a real eye opener.

  • I like the picture of the girl at the end, that look off..... what the fuck is going on, i really wana know!!

Mad mad world we live in.

  • for the sixths picture, i was told that they actually set up that picture the day after it had actually happened

  • The world is so fucked.

  • I love this video. i would have loved to see the images in order by year though

  • I think the pictures represent the struggles of the world. I particularly love the song..I'll see you on the other side....

  • You overused 9/11 and Princess Diana as subject matter. There was a good variety for a while, but then it felt like that was all you used towards the end. Just my opinion.

  • asi es, las cosas se pusieron peor en muchos lugares en el mundo despues que les tiraron sus torrecitas, desgracia (para el mundo y los pobres iraquies y demas bajas laterales, no para los gringos)

  • who is that girl at 4:48? i see that picture everywhere

  • sumthin1far6greater: the girl at 4.48 was simply known as the "Afghan Girl" by National Geographic when they took a pic of her at an afghan refugee camp in pakistan in the 80s. They found her recently and her name is Sharbat Gula.

  • She was or is an Afghan citizen, I've seen a recent image and she has the same crazy eyes but doesn't look that hot anymore ;)

  • Actions speak louder than words

  • amen to that!

  • hahahahah proud now to be a human?

  • i woz nevr proud 2 b a human!!!

cause wer d cancer of this planet, n sumtimes id just wish for God 2 give us sum kond of wake up call... thought us a proper lesson

never proud, n never will b

  • i think 9/11 was a wake up call,... we just hit snooze.

  • changed the world?

    still war.

  • Powerfull

  • excuses...bah..

  • to bad there is no logical seqeuence for the pictures..

  • awesome video and music

    You did a beautifull job

  • 4:46 - I heard they wanted to make a memorial based off of the 3 firefighters that raised the flag on the WTC but that they were going to change the race of two of them so it was more political correct or something...

anybody know what happened with that?

  • I hope everyone who watches this changes themselves for the better.

  • nicely said!

  • whats the picture at 1:27

  • A village in vietnam was accidently naplam

and the kids in the village come out for help

ITN news was there to record, it, the little girl you see naked had second and 3rd degree burns over most of her body, she is still alive to day in Vietnam, from the last reports on her

  • its not because we kill each other that makes me sad its how we do it thats hurts

  • @ 2:56. The most macabre photo I've seen. The guy who took the photo killed himself a month later.

  • Not quite, he killed himself a month after winning a Pulitzer Prize for the photo, IIRC.

  • why?

  • everyone who watches this share with as many ppl as u can possibly share with. if u have a myspace post it there. you will make ppl change if u share this

  • OMG at 1.08 that woman is holding all those cops back!!

  • Man, this video really shows how ff-ing retarded the human race really is... all this violence is so pointless.

  • is not sad how we kill each other

  • Peace

  • does anyone no what that scene was when that pinkish cloud, marshmellowy, odd shape was?

  • i think it was wen the shuttle blew up but im not exactly sure

  • It was the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle

  • We live in a world where there are MILLIONS in lottery jackpots, movie stars making MILLIONS,businessmen laundering MILLIONS and so on yet there are children staving to death and war at every turn. Its a shame you did an awsoen job richiesherman, it makes me appriciate the small garage apt i live in with my hubby and 3 girls.God Bless

  • my mistake, it is not that funny. sad

  • BE the CHANGE you want to see..Ghandi

  • The Man That stude infront of the tanks is my HERO really he was the best i studdied him for ever nice vid

  • Picture 3 (the one in Tiananmen Square) will always be one of my favorite photos of all time. The video is even more inspiring.

  • #28 Is the picture that guides me. It symbolizes that even when America was shook on 9/11 (I don't want to hear the conspiracys about it)America still stood, even in the dust.

  • ! NICE VIDEO ! man it really makes eyes tear

  • it hurts my heart that most of these are about death and destruction. it's ironic to me that it's horrible acts of cruelty and violence that bring people together.

  • some of those were really great, the last one kind of freaked me out!

  • wots d story about tht girl?any1 knows?

  • Im pretty sure she was originally photographed by national geographic. I know they found her as as adult years later and photographed her again. She was dubbed the Afghan girl.

  • add descriptions is better

  • viva tank man

  • #7 shouldn't be on the list. That "lone Jewish woman" was occupying land that didn't belong to her (i.e. Palestinian land). Glorifying the Israeli "settlers" (i.e. illegal colonists) is nothing short of anti-Palestinian racism. You should show pictures of Palestinians resisting the occupation, not Israelis perpetuating it. Shame on you richiesherman.

  • You are quite right. But I tried my best to keep my personal political views out of the video and be as unbiased as possible. Hopefully the video still has something for everyone to identify with, even if some of the images do offend.

  • Ok, sorry then, I mistakenly assumed you were implicitly supporting the occupation.

  • he didn't stop 59 tanks, the tanks he was stopping were type 59 tanks

  • A stunning video, very moving

  • why is the video at .53 famous? never saw that one.

  • Its a bid for freedom over the Berlin wall.

  • The Man stud infront of the tanks bravist man he ran off he was the un known student Hope hes doing fine cause he acually did something for the other people To speak HIS RIGHTS!

  • heartbreaking...

and with all these problems around with ppl struggling to survive..i ws thinkin of committing suicide..i feel ashamed..

  • letterbekmen were going to war to let ppl like u speak shit on the people who fight and were fight bastards who kill anyone who isnt there stupid reliogon and for all the ppl who say were killing children over there well the kids are wereing bombs and r getting ready to blow up a bus full of children so if u dont spuport the war then your suporting these bastard to go and kill little kids im 13 and all i know is that my brothers a seal and for everyone who suports the troops he want to say thxs

  • who is that guy in 00:30?

  • hes called "the tank man". no one knows for sure who he is...

  • it's unknown

  • the unknown rebel, they never figured out who it was

  • what has our world come to....

  • 18 is sad.

    great video btw.

  • where are the katrina pics? you cant get more moving than that...

  • i knew the afghan girl would be on here!

  • man this sounds preatty wossy but that was touching i had a geust speaker who when he was 8 woke up and there were tanks outside his apartment...rusians were taking over his country the next day college students held up the countries flag in front of a tank they said move or you will be executed they didnt and were ran over the next day they were crushed under the countries flag...if the world saw your video it would change

  • The picture of the starving child and the vulture behind..I don't even know what to say. I am ashamed and sickened. The greed in this world is beyond evil. I will never understand why human beings must be this way towards one another!

Very powerful video. The only thing i didn't like was the music. I'm not a Michael W. Smith fan, but overall very, very moving.

    Peace and love to all.

  • I feel that the fact that the individual who took the photograph of the starving child and vulture probably did nothing besides photograph. The most sickening thing, even more so than not caring at all, is being there and doing nothing. The casual observer who does nothing to intervene is the lowest human.

  • The photographer won a Pulitzer Prize for the photograph. He then committed suicide, because he couldn't live with himself knowing that he didn't do anything to help the child.

  • could you send me this?i plan to send it as a chain mail to raise the awareness of others..

  • What do you want him to do. End starvation of millions of people. He probably saw hundreds of children like that when he was there. Don't be so judgemental. I'm guessing you're no Ghandi.

Arguable as a journalist/photographer he's bring the plight of these people to the attention of the world and making a difference that way.
