Does the WIIO pedal when set to overdrive/breakup settings clean up with the guitar volume? I would like to basically "set it and forget it" to the max hiwatt "Leeds" tone and then use the guitar volume to do cleans and volume and tone control. Does it work that way?
This is certainly as close to a Hiwatt CP103 as I'll get for now.
Salutations, Sir! Merci pour votre soutien et des mots d'encouragement, je les apprécie grandement. Oui, cette WIIO est la première version, je crois. Salutations à tous mes amis en France. J'ai hâte de visiter votre belle partie du monde un jour. :)
@Xevamir They're totally different animals except for the fact that they're both dirt boxes. The WIIO does HIWATT and the DLS does Marshall. Chalk and cheese, really. So I have to say I have a use for them both as neither can really cover the ground of the other. Sorry to sit on the fence!
toggling between this demo, and the Hyperpak, it seems the Wiio can do hyperpak tones, albeit with more depth. I keep coming back to it, so i think it's on the want list :)
At 2.25 that little lead run has shown some Hiwatt-ish characteristics.. Needs to cut through a bit more though.. Hiwatts have these fuzzy quality to their drive, really unique tone and huge headroom. Like any new pedal in the market, this captures the spirit of the Hiwatt, but requires more fine-tuning though.. (Judging from this clip)
I'm sure that if you played it through a Hiwatt, you would feel differently...the guys that make this pedal have a Custom 100 full stack for comparison.
loooooooove SGs! My very first guitar was a 1986 Gibson SG I bought from an Air Force buddy in 1987. Unfortunately, I had to sell it in the early 90s. *cry*
I must admit to not having a whole lot of experience with the real thing (HIWATT) although I've had a LOT of experience with Fenders. The two are different in that a Fender's general tone is a little creamier, a little more compressed (from experience). The HIWATT has more dynamic headroom and a different, more lively, treble response. It's a killer clean amp and deadly when cranked. Dangerous even. That's why it's great with another distortion in front of it. See D. Gilmour for reference.
Woohoo! I was gonna ask Brett to do this with the DLS, but he was 2 steps ahead. I got my #10 WIIO 2 days ago, and have my Vers 2 DLS coming this week (Catalinbread harlott!!). I haven't tamed the WIIO beast yet, cause it is seriously hilarious to hear how loud and raucous it is at only about 12 oclock. Can't wait to work it into my setup.
come on! how can you not spell TOWNSHEND correctly? lol

You should do a WIIO vs Hiwatt, with an SG and superfuzz. That would be epic!

Hi Burgs!
Is that WIIO a version 1?
Thx for all those great demo!
Merci beaucoup et bonne continuation

Do you think the DLS is the best option for getting a 70's Marshall JMP sound through the clean channel of another amp?
odgeUK 8 months ago
I have two old Hiwatts, and it takes 'em a lot of work to sound as good as that does with just the pedal :) Sounds great, and good demo, sir!
Wileylikethehawk 9 months ago
does the WIIO also react nicely with an tube screamer in front?
Cheers!

sorry to sound like a complete tit, but is the DLS going into the WIIO or is it the other way around??
purenectar 11 months ago
@purenectar That would be DLS into Wiio.

Cool demos, all of them! So, WIIO or Tech21 Leeds your favorite? Sorry if someone's asked already!

Which do you like more?
The WIIO, or the DLS?

Sounds good, I'm guessing Live At Leeds is a regular on your CD player ? What are the pickups in the SG ?

Excellent! Always like your demos! How's this pedal work into a slightly broken up amp?
nsriley 1 year ago
@nsriley Really well. Because of its full range, it turns crunch into mean, nasty, singing lead-dom. :)

This pedal looks awesome, but I'm probably gunna buy a hiwatt in a month or two.... i wonder what this on a hiwatt would do? double trouble?

they're both based on cranked hiwatts so there is bound to be an overlap of tone. this pedal has actually superseded the hyperpak.

I have an original (1st batch of 100) WIIO which as I use as a boost for my V2 DLS into a Marshall JCM 900 (loaded with EL34's)..sounds amazing!

The stacking capabilities of this pedal are great. I am running mime with a Sweet Honey and a DLS and the results are really, really good.

How would you describe the Hiwatt clean sound, how different is it from a Fender clean?

I'm pretty sure the octave up was intended because Pete used a Univox SuperFuzz at Leeds.

I was luckily enough to get one.. No. 89/100. It truly is another great pedal from CB. Its a "keeper". Will definitely now stack it with my DLS.
Sounds great with a Strat too. Thanks again for another great demo..Look forward to more in 2010..
