@satetoneko Hi! what Gaz and Rob said was that Shine was written about Rob and it was written by Gaz.. I JUST looked the the BBC Radio video where Rob sings Shine.. and very clearly Gaz says it was written about Rob.. Not sure which version you were looking at to determine that it was about Emma, clearly Gaz says, yes, it was written about Rob..

Gaz said to Interviewer that he is the biggest lover of this song +Mark made the most of the song + lyric is all from him.

Then Mark said Emma is in this song + joked that she demanded her song right as it is written about her.

TT is one of the very rare musicians which I can strongly feel their love/enthusiasums of the music through their songs.

I really like how they respect each other + work together.

@satetoneko Yes!absolutely right that "Up All Night" was written by Markie and was about Emma.. no argument there... but you were saying that "Shine" was 1) written by Markie and 2) that it was about Emma.. "Shine" was written by Gaz and was about Rob and was sung by our darling Markie... Only a few hours to go!! They must be SOOOO excited... to be finally on stage, in concert, singing with each other again after soo long... how much fun is this going to be for us Thatters!! Cheers!!

I thought if Gaz is the writer, it shld be "Did you write about me?""Yes, I did" "know" + "think" show if Gaz has knowledge of it. So I thought Gaz is not writer. (I'm not native English speaker)

Anyway no clear statement who is the writer in Interview, right?

@satetoneko Arigato!! satesan, all songs written about Rob in the TT forum (not counting solo stuff written by Markie) and Gaz's solo work are written and have been written by Gaz over the years since they were together the first time. I could go into great detail (but of course, I won't) but suffice to say this one "Shine" MAY have been co-written by Mark but Gaz had his hand in it for sure..

@satetoneko No, you are right. We can say with some certainty most of Shine's lyrics were written by Mark, and Rob believes they are about him. In this case Steve Robson co-wrote Shine with Take That for BW album. They do not usually use co-writers anymore & have used none on Progress. They said they didn't have as much confidence as they have now when they were 1st reunited :] In general the music is mostly written by Gaz imo, lyrics more shared. No matter who wrote, TT4/5 share the credit.

@satetoneko Of course in the first version of Take That before the break up in 95', the vast majority, save a few covers, was written exclusively by Gary. There were a few co-writers, but not a lot. A few exceptions are when Rob and Mark wrote a few lines in the song Sure, and Howard co-wrote If This Is Love w/ another songwriter. This is all changed post 2005, and in Look Back Don't Stare they tried to show more of how they write together.

Gas surely is exceptional musician, but Mark plays also big role since reunion.

Gas regard Mark as great songwriter+feels like he is on the way to be those musicians who sit at piano and just write songs rest of his life. He also said Mark had big joy in writing over existing tracks. (Look back dont stare extra)

Frm RULE THE WORLD they started writing together frm the beginning. Until then they wrote separately,then worked together.

Never found Interviews how Shine was written. Are there any?

Since reunion Gary and Mark write songs for TT+ after that all the members work closely together to complete songs.

What I know is, the most of (or all? Does anybody know it?) the songs which Mark sings leadvocal is written by himself.

@satetoneko this particular one may have been written by Mark, although gaz usually has a great deal of influence over the lyrics (Song sung by Mrk, written by Gaz: SHINE)..but it mostly the melodies that are written down and composed by Gaz, hence the "minor key change" marking the chorus...Mark and Rob are contributing the lyrics, Gaz contributes the melodies and tracks...it perfect collaboration in which no one person can say they "wrote" the song... except for in Gaz songs and Rob songs

I've just found that Shine is written by Mark.

Gaz+Rob talked about it in BBC Radio when Rob sang Shine.

The lyric of Shine is so heartwarming/original and shows personality of the writer.

I always thought only Mark can write such lyrics.. .
