@EvilPrinceVegeta99 Try to cut back on the pitches thrown first. Start by focusing on the fastball, 2 seam or changeup. Then make sure when you release the ball that your elbow is pointing at the catcher first(this is called guiding with your elbow) This will take stress off your arm and prevent tommy john surgery.
@brentpourciau I agree. I tore my tendon in my right arm because I started doing this too early. Kids (People under 18) Should remember not to be pitching like they do in the majors. You're still growing.
dude im 12 years old and u r the fucking man i sware to you i used to pitch 64 with a pretty crappy form when i tried this my last game i went up a mile an hour nbd but i kept practicing and practicing and when i forgot to do the right pivot and did it i threw 72 mph o.0
You threw the ball with an inverted v that leads to elbow injuries. I don't recommend teaching beginners how to pitch when you don't have the correct mechanics. Also you landed heal toe! Very bad. You need to land toe heal!
My son has had the good fortune of having been taught by Coach Mike for the last year and a half. He was a steady pitcher all year, and the only regular pitcher on his team that did not have arm problems.
@StarJekker its supposed to be a load but he doesnt show it and practice practice practice to time it right.
basically when your front foot lands after bringing your leg up you should be in the two "L's" with your arms and straight up and tall with the trunk of your body not forward
no load is right as cotton 3100 claims..when he brings his knee up he should try to "feel" some kind of load ..maybe he brings it up more towards his rear shoulder..whatever BUT he needs to create a load that creates lower body torque, just bringing your left knee up and falling towards home isNOt an ELITE move.he needs to show his left ass pocket to the hitter while feeling the load in his rear leg and hip.I also like to keep head in line with the plate during wind up not sidestep..sum good stuf
@coffeescup you need to teach your son how to throw a fastball and a change up for strikes...mastery of these two pitches is essential for a young baseball player and it requires a lot of practice. the changeup needs to be throw with the same arm speed as his fastball for maximum effectiveness..it is very difficult for hitters to see the difference between his fastball (max effort pitch) and changeup (8-10 mph slower than fastball) good luck!
good video funny how all these people think drive and jump off the rubber when you throw a baseball. for the people who are making comments about momentum can that garbage. you don't use your legs when your throw to drive off the rubber you have them under your body so when you plant your front foot your body can rotate thus creating power and velo.
@marshalloo22 No its not the worst advice you have heard its the truth. I played pro ball for a number of years both as a pitcher and catcher so I know whats going on. Does CC or Halladay or Price think about driving off there back leg when they pitch I think not. They plant so they and rotate and not leave there arms behind to get there arm and body working together oh yeah I guess they are all #1 on a playoff team but your right lets drive off our back leg so we can throw like gargabe
actually you want to step back, not to the side, steping back creates momentum towards the plate, steping to the side creates momentum towards third base, how does that help? if you step to the side thats just movement that hurts you, it creates no gain, you might as well just pitch from the stretch.
@rmroz91 yea you do, when you step back you have to bring yourself forward, creating momentum towards the plate, step to the side and your leg comes from the first base side of the mound to the third base side(assuming youre a righty) creating horizontal momentum.
@SimpleStuff31 no the power during the wind up comes from the gloot load(basically your butt) not anything to do with stepping. also you forgot about the balance position where any momentum you get from stepping is gone. lastly if you step back many people, especially younger kids, dont know how to work the momentum and it ends up pulling then away from the plate which is your argument because they have to swing there leg from behind to balance position which is a lot of weight swinging
@SimpleStuff31 pitching isnt walking...and your missing the point its the gloot load that loads your butt and core muscles which gives you the power. once you bring your leg to a balance position all the momentum is gone...hence the name balance position.
nice! I've pitched for years and am still learning from beginner videos. I'm talking about taking a very small step instead of a bigger one. Thanks for the vid.

you know, when you are ready to delivery, you´re back is fligth, i mean you have to move you ´re back down because , you´ve been pitching so wrong body.........
and browiz...ifhes winding up that means there is no runners on base...which means that unless you fall all over your self, chances are your not going to balk...just thought id throw that one in there
whatever coach out there that is teaching momentum pitching should be fired...torquing your body to the point of being off balance and teaching guys to throw a baseball like a softball player would pitch her ball is rediculous...do some squats, towel drill, work on reaching through the glove and you should be fine...look up paul reddick baseball hes pretty smart about all this stuff, im 20 and joined the 90 mph club and now pitch in the rotation at college...get an education lol
Thanks a million! I am in my 30s, and never played a lot of baseball as a younger person. In 2 minutes, you taught me how to pitch with some accuracy. REally appreciate you sharing this. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
u shouldnt be stpping to the side because 1 its a bock as odesha said and 2 stepping back creates momentem towards the plate but this vid still helped
you can critique this video how you like but everyone who's played ball long enough knows that everyone's windup is different. Not everyone is going to pitch comfortably and as effectively the same way.

yarnilu, nothing to fight about here, we are just discussing what we love to do. someday I'll create my own video to show what I mean instead of simply describing. If your arm hurts, I can only guess that your arm is going too high, or you already have some damage that is irritated by a particular angle. No way to tell without watching you.
WRONG youre supposed to step back. It creats momentum. It also reduces injury. also you are completely extending your arm when you break from the glove. You should have the inverted L
wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong ok my uncle is a retired pro pitcher he pitched for the cubs and twins his name is larry casian for 1 if u step 2 the side now its a bock new rule and if u look at ur front foot wen u follow throu its straight thats going to mess up ur arm but im just trin to help
when hes says that lefties should start at the left and rightiese the left thats not always the case. u want to watch ur toe drag and place your foot so that you drag line ends up in the middle of the rubber.
instead of the arm going DOWN, get the arm UP for greatly improved control and arm health. i've done both and can testify to the huge differences. harvey haddix taught: get the arm out and up when separating from the mitt.
nice work except for one important point: you say up with the knee and down with the arm. i'd change it to up with the knee and UP with the arm. when you lower the arm, you necessitate a rather violent move forward toward the plate. when you cock it into the UP position, it's ready to accelerate toward the catcher's mitt in a much smoother path. this greatly improves your control while--more importantly in the big picture--saves your arm a lot of misery.
dont wanna efight, but in recent personal experince, i found that when i went up, i could only last 30-40 pitches before pain, and thru recent adjustment, i have easily pitched 100 pitchs in games and had no pain....just my 2 cents
THANKS!!!!! I struck out 4 people and only allowed 4 runs!!! lol just kidding but i like this ill use it next game i suck at pitching atm... by the way i usualy think to point at home team dugout(3rd baseline dugout) with my foot for the step to the side. THANKS!!!^^
im no expert, but i'd say as long as your mechanics are good and consistent there is no wrong delivery. i know pitching out of your normal arm slot can cause injury
I'm a lefty and I pitch fine. It's just the transition hsmgirl. I can't pitch a softball underhand at all. Probably the same thing with you. Very different motions and muscles.
Hi. I'm a 13 year old girl and I throw lefty. Trying to learn baseball pitching because I'm going to try out for my high school boys baseball team this coming year... trying to learn to pitch so... but it's a little difficult for me to learn because I'm a lefty and most people are righty
This guys needs to do his homework. The latest research is now indicating that there is a direct link between arm injuries and the inverted L and the inverted W positions. This is still fairly recent, however if I am producing pitching instruction videos I'd go out of my way to stay on top of this stuff.
wasn't bad. it doesn't matter what side of the rubber you start on though. it's all how you throw. my ball tails in so i start on the left side and i'm right handed. but he looks like he's finishing off to his right a lil bit and throwing kinda on the side of his body. good if you're still learning how to pitch.
that's pretty.

i guess i throw a little above average for my age as far as velocity, but i tend to throw over the top..is that bad?

im no expert, but i'd say as long as your mechanics are good and consistent there is no wrong delivery. i know pitching out of your normal arm slot can cause injury

A) you hyperabduct
B) you get very little seperation
C) You get more velocity if you lead with you your elbow, only if it's below your shoulder
D) Your elbow line is borderline. I would like to see some tilt if you want to throw from that arm slot.
jashevelew said it perfectly to. Inverted L and inverted W are being linked to injuries. Try using just a regualr W instead of inverting it.

Dick Mills Pitching Is Way better

This guys needs to do his homework. The latest research is now indicating that there is a direct link between arm injuries and the inverted L and the inverted W positions. This is still fairly recent, however if I am producing pitching instruction videos I'd go out of my way to stay on top of this stuff.

wasn't bad. it doesn't matter what side of the rubber you start on though. it's all how you throw. my ball tails in so i start on the left side and i'm right handed. but he looks like he's finishing off to his right a lil bit and throwing kinda on the side of his body. good if you're still learning how to pitch.
