T 2.2 is a excellent motor but like any needs to be mantained. Call JDM motrs. Got e for my 98 camry 2 yeas ago for 950 delivered and its a great motor well worth saving the car
Many toyota's have died this way due to toyota's engine oil sludge problem that toyota avoided paying for by blaming the customers for poor maintance, finally in a court action a small fraction of owners got a little justice but for most there was only a broken car and many times with under 100k miles on it sitting uselessly in thier driveways. There is a reason toyota's sales are down and consumer reports ranks toyota as the auto maker with the most problems in 2010-2011.
Lucas oil stabilizer is made for preventive maintenance. The only way you can fix a spun bearing is to replace it, that's if you didn't destroy your crank. What filter are you using? And what oil? That stuff plays into it.
i have been driving a 98 camry with a knock for 8 months now and it has not changed, or used oil or gotten louder and its been 7,000 miles of hard driving. it doesnt sound as loud or rough as this car could it be something other than a rod?
Lucas is not going to fix a bend rod or really worn out barings it's purpose is to prevent your parts from sticking it also helps by creating a small layer on the parts such as piston rings and barings that if you were to measure with a micrometer it would be less than a thousands of an inch or a one thousands of an inch But to do this it must be added every oil change for about 1 year dont expect it to work as soon as you added it takes some time till you feel or hear the diference :)
I wasn't aware that ANY oil additve was supposed to repair a bad rod bearing or bent rods.... there is no such thing as "mechanic in a can". If I have doctor diagnosed cancer and choose not to do anything about it except drink green tea, the odds are that it's still going to kill me. same rules apply here. I'm a mechanic by trade, and anyone could tell that that engines about to send a piston out the valve cover.
my dad had a 98 camry that he bought new it never did this he traded it in 2004 for a brand new 04 camry that also never done that the 98 had 262 K miles on it now that is high mileage for a 98 camry the 04 was traded in march 2010 for a used 07 camry that doesnt do that either my dad has never had any major problems out of camries
i have a 98 toyota camry le 4 cyl......i have been otr trucker for the past two years and the car hasnt moved much since i got a job back home i have to drive back and forth to work a total of about 60 miles a day half interstate miles....anyway....it burns oil like crazy....i do have a slight leak in my valve cover but it cant be this bad of a leak because the day before yesterday i had to fill up the pan and today i had to do it again...i also dont see any smoke...wth!!!!!!
@iceplusplus well now that depends how far gone the motor is as anyone would tell you people try these additives when their motor is plumb gone and say it didnt work and blame the additive when in reality its their fault the additive didnt have a chance i had an engine with a bearing knock and it worked for me so its all about luck and how soon you catch the problem before the bearing spins or not mine werent spun just tapping knocking not like this though not that bad
in fact ive tried all their additives and their additives are the only ones that seem to make any difference at all and work all other oil additives i tried failed me when lucas worked so how do i know i use their products they all work that ive tried like i said just how lucky you are and how soon you catch it i had lots of metal shavings in my oil and it saved me from a spun bearing i used 2 bottles though ran it a year and didnt knock replacd bearings still running today 350 chevy 79 year
copanda63, thanks for your response. Once again, this car was diagnosed by 4 different PROFESSIONAL mechanics. It IS a bent rod or the rod bearings. There are metal shavings in the oil. As it says, an oil change was done. Congratulations on having your Camry last so long. You weren't a victim of oil sludge. But your advise is useless in this forum. Please read the entire thread before you respond again. Thanks.
they may be right what they told you but u got a spun bearing to from the sound of that lucas oil isnt going to quiet a spun bearing which has spun and cant get lubrication any longer lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer is a very good additive a had an engine knock and it saved me from a chewed up crank and raised my oil pressure it does work again im not mouthing or anything jus saying that sound like a spun bearing rod through block soon the engine has to be sound not that far gone for it to work
Actually, many Camrys failed because of the oil sludge problem. They only extended the warranty to 100000 miles, so at 135,000, this is junk.
Replacing the engine costs 1500. Car is worth about $2500 if the engine is replaced. It was sold off by the owner for a grand to an international wholesaler.
Your first wrong assumption was that this is my car. It is not.
Your second wrong assumption appears to be that you think I expected this to fix the problem. It is just the opposite. I wanted to prove it doesn't work.
The video is primarily to let people listen to an engine with rod knock, and it is also to warn folks that the claims by additive makers that their products will help with rod knock is nonsense.
@iceplusplus i dont think lucas is intended to stop or reverse rod knock it is an additional anti wear additive i also know for a fact the bottle does not say it stops rod knock lol i beleve this is a good product i use this in my race motors along with Valvoline 20-50w and my motors last longer the only thing i changed was i started using lucas
Well if you wrecked the motor interally duhh you can't just pour some additive in and it'll be all better, I can't even imagine what that sound is it gives me a stomach ache just thinking about it like the connecting rod just carving the shit outta your cylinder wall or whatever. That engine is toast. buy a chevy and that problem will be solved
Nope. Best way to check is to do an oil change. Do it yourself or have a mechanic you trust totally do it. If there are metal shavings in your engine, it is done.
If there aren't any, you can drop the oil pan and have the damage checked for about an hour or so's labor.
There are claims online about various additives saving the day. If they do, it is temporary, and this proves they can't save the engine that is already gone.
:-G My Camry started doing that yesterday U_U, *sniffle*
