[ARRGH] Why is the response message box now so gosdh darn SMALL? Anyway,
I noted the song was by Dorothy Fields and Jimmy McHugh, of "I'm in the mood for love","Sunny Side of the Street" & "I can't give you anything but love" music fame.
Actually it's the other way around, the Andrew Sisters sounded like the Boswell Sisters. I know they did not do any USO shows. Connie was in a wheel chair and the government did not think that would be good for military moral to see her like that.
The Boswell Sisters probably have the highest ratio of gems per output. Every one is superlative. They broke up in 1936 so didn't perform during the War.
I couldn't remember the date they broke up. Of course Connie continued on and I recall reading once the statement I posted above. It was in reference to just her and not the trio.
Yes. I think I read that Connie did some War effort support work but only when she could be presented sitting on a stool or something to hide the fact that she couldn't stand.
the Boswell Sisters dissolved in 1936, way before the war. But Connee played a HUGE part in entertaining in stateside hospitals during WWII. She was an inspiration to men who had come back injured during the war.
She was not allowed to go overseas due to her disability, but she did everything from appearing on "Command Performance" to issuing V-disks in support of the war effort.
How much do you love that ending?! Fabulous! Syncopation at its finest.

no one sings this kind of songs anymore..
it's amazing - their voices..

They were the best and Connie was the lead singer. She improved on the songs and made them even more interesting than they were to begin with.

Connie sings the solo but Martha is singing the melody (and playing the piano) in the andante segment at the beginning.

Classy and smooth as so many of their performances. Thank you!
