IMO us Americans deserve all the hate we get we should keep our noses out of other countries and actually help countries like this one when they really need help honestly our country is a bunch of d*cks
The situation is very complex. The reason they hate the Tutsi's is because of the divide and rule by Belgium, they see them as collaborators with the enemy. An intervention would strengthen that viewpoint. I think we could have intervened and stopped the genocide temporarily but as soon as we would leave they would just continue their genocide.
I hate that everybody blames Americans. Yea it's part there fault most times but ppl act like there's no body else in the world but Americans. What about Asia, antartica, and everyone else????? Fucking European cowards....Although our country should have taken action, at least we weren't racist cowards. Stop living like it's the age of imperialism, Belgium.
@TheDeathCrasher They reference the battle of Mogadishu in this film. They are almost entirely similar in every respect except there weren't Americans to die protecting UN peacekeepers in Rwanda. The genocide in Rwanda was in 1994, the incident in Somalia was in 1993 months apart. How did I change the subject? when discussing the American response to Rwanda, American losses (92 casualties) were very much on the same subject. So why wasn't your country there? I know why mine wasn't.
@RetrousseRaptor I don't know if my country was there or not because quite frankly I do not care about Rwanda. I did not study Rwanda I just wanted to watch the film. So =)
what a mess europeans have left the world in... theft and manipulation to build their countries...then they do nothing to stop a genocide when they could have... I say the ICC puts some of them on trial
@dkan3 You forget that the Americans could have helped, but didn't. They did just as bad with their eternal quest to beat the Soviet Union (ie the civil wart in Angola) tbh all of the west is to blame.
@dkan3 what a mess the humans have left the world in... theft and manipulation to build their countries...then they do nothing to stop a genocide when they could have... I say the ICC puts MANY of them on trial.
@dkan3 Yep, if you take a step back and look at history from an objective standpoint you will see that the root of most conflict and strife in the world is because of Europe.
You see how the UN poses as the savior of these people and then does nothing to help them even when they have armed soldiers there and the people are being slaughtered. The UN nowdays is starting new wars in the Middle East and dumping DU radioactive munitions accross these lands. The UN is a criminal organization and Americans should realize that we do not want them in our country. I also hate the portrayal of helpless disarmed people. The UN should have armed the victims.
its weird how people condemn powerful countries for sending troops into countries to try and help them and yet people bitch if the powerful countries don't send troops. there's just no pleasing anyone i guess
@undercoverngel i'm not saying i personally would not help people but who decides what's humane and what's not? also is it fair to heavy tax the people of a weathier nation and use the money to kill people or take over a government? i mean it all has to do with the situation please look at it that way.
All you leftist who think you know everything, I have some news for you. Its not the UN's fault, nor any others except YOURSELVES. Blacks dont know how to run countries. Take Rhodesia for example. A prosperous country ruled by Whites, then you leftists give it to Mugabe and his left wing supports and he creates Zimbabwe, now look at it. Face it, Blacks no f*ck all about government.
@LordWellington15: It's America's fault, it's France's fault, it's Belgium's fault, it's the world's fault, it's our fault. We have watched the genocide and have done nothing because it wasn't important enough for us. And the problem is, things have not changed. We still could not in any way prevent genocide. The Arab awakening right now shows that.
@themanwithoutapast2 Um no, its your own fault. You see, when the Europeans ruled you had peace and prosperity. Then you guys whined and cried for independence, so we gave it to you, and look what you did to yourselves. Its no ones fault but your own. Why should we fight in someone elses war?
Your comments are the most ignorant words I have ever read why the hell do you think things are the way they are now? It is because the colonial powers force their ways onto socities so that they could take advantage of what they had for years people have lived in silence and fought for their independence and now they are faced on how to deal with rebuilding their identity as a nation, culture, and beliefs.
lands were divided, certain privileges were given to certain groups of people that knew how the please their "colonial masters" and now they are faced how to fix what the colonial powers did in the first place. The UN is a primary example of the hypocrisy that exists within the system. It promised to protect the rights of human beings regardless of background and when faced with an actual crisis it fails and only protects "their own".
@Kyoko019 don't feed trolls, the "peace and prosperity" he talks about was prosperity for the imperialist rulers, not to mention those imperialist fought wars over control of colonies because of their idiotic nationalist pride, hes just a racist don't waste time arguing with a troll
dont bother, he thinks that blacks are inferior because of their skin colour, you, me, and the majority of other people think he's a cunt. that's just the way it is
@Kyoko019 Thats your comeback? Did you even pay attention to anything I have just said? You are obviously denying the truth. You pathetic scumbags who think they are so smart, when really they dont know anything me my stomach turn inside out. Take your Liberal bullshite elsewhere.
its not actually the un soldiers and basically all the people overall taking orders, it is actually their governments, leaders and the rules and regulations that are careless and arrogent costing the lifves of 800 000 people including 300 000 children...
America is showing how WEAK they are. They are suppose to be the mighty and strong! french and british along side as well ! and they can't simply do a lil contribution? I'm sure if they were... they can save millions of the lifes !
@ItsKervin yes because the U.S., British, and French are the only countries in the world. i'm not saying that they couldn't have helped because they could have but the whole world needs to share the blame equally after all it was world news
@ItsKervin It's mainly because the Russians and the Chinese vetoed a large military intervention in Rwanda, because of economic interests. Of course, why would you prevent a massacre if there's money involved???
Why should americans do anyhting they spent the first nerly 3 centuries of existance exterminating my people, im not surprised that they refurse to do anything for these poeples
America does not suck. The government sucks. The American people were horrified and appalled at the violence and lack of action towards all the genocides of the world. The American people have sympathy. The government does not.
@lion3p0 Very true. But the reality is... it was Africans killing Africans on land without oil, gold, or coal. The government was to terrified of one American dying over there to send even a single soldier there to diffuse the situation. It's saddening and disheartening, but it's the world we live in.
@CheckerBoardPants Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. The american governments incentive is to satisfy the want of the amierican people! For fucks sakes the U.S. government had just lost 18 U.S. soldiers doing 'peace keeping' in Somalia, of COURSE the public opinion was AGAINST any sort of international intervention. The american people and the rest of the world have sympathy NOW, but not back then. So think, think about it.
@CheckerBoardPants American people have sympathy, but they do nothing. They just see it on the news and say "oh this is awful." and go back doing their everyday activities. Most Americans don't even know what's happening in Darfur right now. You say the government does nothing, but the people do the same.
The commander of UNAMIR was Canadian and the troops were a mixture from mainly minor U.N. nations. Belgium provided the best trained, but those were withdrawn from Rwanda after ten were executed and the lack of action by the Security Council. There were some from African and Asian nations, but there was no contribution from the superpowers of the U.N.
@heeyitsveronica No, Hotel Rwanda isn't an actual place itself. Rwanda is a country in Africa which I am sure that you already know. I'm guessing that you meant if the actual hotel is real. Yes, it's called the Hotel des Mille Collines, and this movie is based on what happened there during the Rwandan genocide.
the movie made me shed tears.. paul was hero and he should be known for that.. shame to all the cowards that ran away when we thought they were our friends (a friend in need is a friend in deed)
The UN are great people unlike many of the comments under let know the problem is you cannot control millions of people with 300 soldiers. Now thats a whole different story for the french and americans theyre just failure also i was glad to see the canadian flag ob dallaire's shirt
@iphones4ever So the U.S. and French are supposed to somehow keep the peace? And not the humongous league of U.N. PEACEKEEPERS whose entire job is to KEEP the PEACE? And... where was Canada during all this? Oh yeah, sitting on their asses drinking maple syrup and hunting moose. When has the U.N. done anything for anyone ever other than bicker, bitch, and whine behind nice safe walls? Meanwhile, who is the first on scene to help out after any major disaster? Oh yeah! THE FUCKING U.S.A. EAT THAT!
@perciusmandate Oh come on admit that all countries and organizations are corrupt . Quit being an ignorant american believing that the u.s is blameless.
I thought one of the most poignant moments of the movie was when Paul was thanking his bosses in Europe and you just saw this look of horror come over their faces. He was facing death and he was thanking them for their generosity. This movie is absolutely loaded with great actors, even some of the more minor characters.
@LordoftheKaty i have, i used to believe in that bullshit, until i started to think logically. What would the NWO gain from taking over the world publically if they aleready own it
@TheBarred123 Opened the Door pretty quick that Guy open wasn't it lol..You know when Paul is giving the bill-note, that was a blooper, like he expected Paul to knock! least make it more Realistic!
just, darshana, next time you decide to upload a very saddening and intense movie, i would recommend not putting uploaded by darshana in the most intense parts. thank you very much. o and no pink!
"How many acts of genocide does it take to make genocide?" What an idiot Christine Shelley is. I'm glad someone called her out on her "acts of genocide" bullcrap.
Why didn't Bill Clinton help them... that coward. An apology four years later, means nothing to the 1 million people killed in 100 days.
While these people were being slaughtered and chopped up like animals, Clinton slept in bed with women, and tried to work out his marrital issues. I do not blame America for not doing anything. I blame Bill Clinton for not doing anything! He should of stepped up, yet he sat back.
@leira1001 I think the UN peacekeepers are heros, but the organisation behind them have failed countless times. They had ample resources to stop the genocide but were not allowed to use them. It unsettles me that certain countries have the permanent right of veto and that unrelated beurocracy can get in the way of things. I'm glad such an organisation exists but it needs to get its act together, the world will be a better place when it does.
@artemaus10 excuse me Lieutenant-General Romeo Dallaire with our Canadian forces, If you have watched all of this movie, or have read his biography "Shake hands with the devil" should know that he did all within his power within the UN that he could to prevent the Genocide before it had even begun. And was ignored! And in no right deserves to be called a bastard when he, like 99% of the west could have easily have turned his back on Rwanda. But I am not dismissing the failings of the UN !
@shouavaj12 dont bash all the UN, UNAMIR stayed in Rwanda through everything, really bash the politicians who didnt regard it as genocide. Watch Shake Hands With the Devil shows what the UN really did.
@APPLEPIE978 Really? Leaving 300-400 UNAMIR troops after pulling out the rest of the few thousand that had there before the genocide broke out is "staying through everything?" There wasn't even a point to leave those men considering that they weren't allowed to do anything, they just reported back to the western powers who did absolutely nothing. The interahamwe kill 10 Belgian soldiers and the UN pulls out but they let thousands of Rwandans (Hutu and Tutsi) get slaughtered. Bravo UN. Bravo.
@shouavaj12 its a good cause but it has flaws, but i am with you up to a point, the UN really failed in this situation, but i don't exactly hate it yet
@shouavaj12: I agree, the UN is a waste of money for the most part. It seems that good only comes when a country (normally England/America) steps in, free from UN restrictions. I think that the UN wouldn't have been able to save Rwanda even if they used all their power. To successfully stop the genocide in Rwanda they would have been pulled in a million different, and similar situtations. They would have had to clean up all of Africa, and they simly don't have that type of person/resources.
@shouavaj12 Hate the american and other white UN. The Pakistani UN soldiers put themselves forward in Rwanda before any other. They put themselves forward in Congo, Sierra-Leone, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan and many other nations. I admire them and respect them. I hate american UN and other facist's europeans. They only look out for their own white germanic folks! Yet they go on abt how they Value Human-Life, they will help them etc, so whats all that milliraty for? pathetic. Am Irish!.
@shouavaj12 There is no point in hating the UN as it is today- yes it wasn't very efficient two decades ago but it has gotten better since. The UN has been incredibly helpful in the last few years: it is very easy to assign blame, it is harder to make legitimate suggestions on how it could improve.
@Adderboba44 Your country didn't do shit at all, pretty much all the intentional community does. All it does you could have easily vetoed it. A lot of countries not just the U.S. recognized as genocide. Heck if i remember, the UK and France refused to grant Belgians request for help for peacekeepers.
Oh and let's not forget, Europe sat back and watch the Bosnian killing each other in Bosnia and blocked U.S. request for bombing the Serbs. Technically, we are the same pictures here do we?
@moonmuk how am i an asshole for thinking pooring beer on the slob was funny?it was,the slob was being an asshole the entire begining of the movie.i mean come on get a grip, its just a freakin movie.
Sometimes I wish I wasn't American.
BTW, not trying to hate, but it's spelled "Rwanda."

@greedygoldstein your name suits you. You don't get it do you? wealthy powerful countries intervene in countries of strategic value nothing else.

@undercoverngel i think it more depends on the situation. but i mean yeah why would you help a country without getting anything in return?
greedygoldstein 8 months ago
@greedygoldstein for humanity reasons? How shallow can you possibly be.
undercoverngel 8 months ago
@undercoverngel i'm not saying i personally would not help people but who decides what's humane and what's not? also is it fair to heavy tax the people of a weathier nation and use the money to kill people or take over a government? i mean it all has to do with the situation please look at it that way.
greedygoldstein 8 months ago
All you leftist who think you know everything, I have some news for you. Its not the UN's fault, nor any others except YOURSELVES. Blacks dont know how to run countries. Take Rhodesia for example. A prosperous country ruled by Whites, then you leftists give it to Mugabe and his left wing supports and he creates Zimbabwe, now look at it. Face it, Blacks no f*ck all about government.
LordWellington15 9 months ago
@LordWellington15: It's America's fault, it's France's fault, it's Belgium's fault, it's the world's fault, it's our fault. We have watched the genocide and have done nothing because it wasn't important enough for us. And the problem is, things have not changed. We still could not in any way prevent genocide. The Arab awakening right now shows that.
themanwithoutapast2 9 months ago
@themanwithoutapast2 Um no, its your own fault. You see, when the Europeans ruled you had peace and prosperity. Then you guys whined and cried for independence, so we gave it to you, and look what you did to yourselves. Its no ones fault but your own. Why should we fight in someone elses war?
LordWellington15 9 months ago
@LordWellington15
Kyoko019 9 months ago
@LordWellington15
lands were divided, certain privileges were given to certain groups of people that knew how the please their "colonial masters" and now they are faced how to fix what the colonial powers did in the first place. The UN is a primary example of the hypocrisy that exists within the system. It promised to protect the rights of human beings regardless of background and when faced with an actual crisis it fails and only protects "their own".

@lion3p0 Very true. But the reality is... it was Africans killing Africans on land without oil, gold, or coal.
FA22raptero1 3 months ago
@CheckerBoardPants American people have sympathy, but they do nothing. They just see it on the news and say "oh this is awful." and go back doing their everyday activities. Most Americans don't even know what's happening in Darfur right now. You say the government does nothing, but the people do the same.

kreyenn 10 months ago
@kreyenn

And... where was Canada during all this? Oh yeah, sitting on their asses drinking maple syrup and hunting moose. When has the U.N. done anything for anyone ever other than bicker, bitch, and whine behind nice safe walls? Meanwhile, who is the first on scene to help out after any major disaster? Oh yeah! I thought one of the most poignant moments of the movie was when Paul was thanking his bosses in Europe and you just saw this look of horror come over their faces. leira1001 1 year ago

APPLEPIE978 1 year ago
@APPLEPIE978 Really? Leaving 300-400 UNAMIR troops after pulling out the rest of the few thousand that had there before the genocide broke out is "staying through everything?" There wasn't even a point to leave those men considering that they weren't allowed to do anything, they just reported back to the western powers who did absolutely nothing. The interahamwe kill 10 Belgian soldiers and the UN pulls out but they let thousands of Rwandans (Hutu and Tutsi) get slaughtered. Bravo UN. Bravo.
kk448 1 year ago
@shouavaj12 its a good cause but it has flaws, but i am with you up to a point, the UN really failed in this situation, but i don't exactly hate it yet
Quagile 1 year ago
@shouavaj12: I agree, the UN is a waste of money for the most part. It seems that good only comes when a country (normally England/America) steps in, free from UN restrictions. I think that the UN wouldn't have been able to save Rwanda even if they used all their power. To successfully stop the genocide in Rwanda they would have been pulled in a million different, and similar situtations. They would have had to clean up all of Africa, and they simly don't have that type of person/resources.

@shouavaj12 There is no point in hating the UN as it is today- yes it wasn't very efficient two decades ago but it has gotten better since. The UN has been incredibly helpful in the last few years: it is very easy to assign blame, it is harder to make legitimate suggestions on how it could improve.
JermzzzyFTW 9 months ago
@shouavaj12
Sorry mate I find it surprising that 'as a American' you are so angry about the failure of the UN.
Who denied that genocide was being commited? US secretary of state Warren Christopher.
Who refused to jam the broadcasts of the RTLM radio station thus allowing the interhamerwe to coordinate? America
Who actually lobbied to remove the UN from Rwanda before the situation escalated? America.
America is the biggest Western villian in this sorry affair, I wouldn't praise them.
Adderboba44 8 months ago
@Adderboba44 Your country didn't do shit at all, pretty much all the intentional community does. All it does you could have easily vetoed it. A lot of countries not just the U.S. recognized as genocide. Heck if i remember, the UK and France refused to grant Belgians request for help for peacekeepers.
Oh and let's not forget, Europe sat back and watch the Bosnian killing each other in Bosnia and blocked U.S. request for bombing the Serbs. Technically, we are the same pictures here do we?
