OMG I have been searching for this video my entire life and I didn't even know it ;)
thank you for posting!
I have a question, I have been wearing my hair naturally for about 8 months after shaving my head, and I've started using quality products and deep conditioning. My hair is very thick and coarse (4b) and is about mid-neck now.
because my hair has not yet reached a length where I can twist to and section off, what method would you recommend I use to separate my hair during this process?
i have been natural for 2 years and recently got a texturizer ( beautician told me there were no chemicals in it) at this point would u suggest doing keratin to protect the hair ? i worked so hard to get my hair natural...ugh !! and then beautician talked me into a texturizer....
@CrystalRenee919 I had a texturizer added to my hair. My ends didn't get any tuxturizer so my hair hasn't broken or fallen out. from my roots my hair is about 3 to 4 in, the middle is kinda straight and then 4 to 6 in on the end are natural. i am sharing because i love my natural hair but now i am lost because I can't wear any of the styles I like. So i am going to HT my hair. My hair is bra strap length. Good luck to you.
you might think that your hair is healthy and that it is straight and that ,BUT....... when your older all your hair will have gone because of how often you straighten it , as u can see most of your hair is already falling of at the front ( near the fore head ) - i think you should just cut down on the straightening for a while - great video though!!! :D
I'm a 3 yr natural and think this method is amazing. I myself won't flat iron as often because I have suffered from heat damage and love my curls. But I would use your techniques and experience when I do. Please continue to share despite the negative comments because these videos and your time is valuable.
i luv yur hair, im natural also(1.5yrs) but i dnt use heat at all (no blo dryn n i flat iron like twice 4length check n i was a lil frustrated lol) i personally dnt plan 2flat iron my hair again within da nxt yr atleast (got heat damage).i dnt c wat da problem is wit sum naturals, lyk uve said ur not putn chemicals on yur hair or scalp n yur hair seems healthy 2me n dats all dat matters whether u got a fro, heat traind or relaxd
@Brittanynic16 i love your videos, they are so inspiring. Any i recently decided to stop relaxing my hair, in hopes of growing it longer....its about shoulder length but it breaks alot. i was wondering, did you see any results as far as hair growth with your new technique of heat training?
Quick question: After watching a few of your videos I noticed that your edges look damaged, like gone or balding there. Is that the case or is that your lining (no offense). I realize that this video is 10 months old, so have things changed? I'm asking because my edges are short and I'm trying to grow them out.
@naturalsunshine - This video is a year old. If you would like to see how my hair looks now feel free to look at my recent videos. If you've seen my videos you know that I have stated on multiple occasions that that is how my hair grows naturally. I even have pictures of this when my hairs is in its natural state. You can see them in my "My Natural Hair Texture" video. I can not give any advice on the subject because my edges are not thinning. The are what they are.
@Brittanynic16 Wow you respond quickly! I like that! Honestly, I haven't seen many of your videos. That's just how your hair grows? Well you seem okay with it so that's all that matters. I wasn't necessarily asking for advice and it wasn't meant to be offensive just trying to see if the reason my edges are short because I've been applying too much heat over the years.
When you first started heat training, how many time did you heat train before you considered your hair "heat trained" or how many times did it take you to get that texture?
Hello, i like your videos I am interested in heat training my hair. How often do you wash your hair? I sweat from working out and I wash once a week. I haven't use heat in a while due from breakage, but i am transitioning soon to do the big chop. i am preparing myself for when my hair starts to go back, what method to use in order for my hair to grow.
Your video was great!! I recently decided to heat train my hair because I don't want to relax it again ( I am 1 yr and 5 mos post relaxer) but I only recently (Sept 10) started growing it. I love my natural hair, but there isn't much I can do with it curly. My texture is a 4a/4b and in that weird inbetween stage. It's not long and it's not so short but has a mind of its own. I'm going to start heat training it tomorrow. Thanks again. Ur hair is beautiful by the way.
Hi, I'm transitioning . And today after flat ironing my hair today which I do once a month I said this is it. I'm going to find those heat training videos that I seen which are your videos. Because my hair is extremely tangled and I don't want to give up its been 7 months. I have the same hair texture as yours should I just do the new growth or treat my relax hair the same? What products should I use ? What temperature ? How often should i do this process?
@missp09able - Only train the hair that is not previously processed. The relaxed hair is already straight so there is no need to train it. The other questions are answered in my "Heat Training Guide" videos. HTH
When you heat trained the length of your hair (thru the bkt process), how many passes did you do? I know you do your roots at 20 very quick passes; but it seems like (after counting) the amount of time you are going over the roots (and counting the seconds) it would translate to about 3 passes on the length of hair at a slow to moderate pace. I know I'm doing mathmatics & maybe semantics here, but I've been really studying and researching this technique & how it works-- to a precision.
@Virtuenow - It actually has more to do what is actually happening to the hydrogen bonds of the hair. The hair is heated and cooled rapidly. The new growth goes by quickly because it is a small amount of hair. I would use the same passes on the length because all the hair needs to go through the same heating and cool process.
@Brittanynic16 so maybe you can do that same press - release action down the length of the hair. Is this what you originally meant? I think I just had an "ah-ha" moment. Would it be possible for you to demonstrate what you are supposed to do down the length of the hair? Or explain step-by-step. I'm determined to get this right!
yeah i think me and you have the same natural texture i mean the 4a/4b thick thick texture because when my hair is straight it moves but not like a lot of other people transitioning that can get that easy swing.
it moves like yours. its just because its very very thick. doesnt mean it damaged because mine isnt and yours isnt either the way you take close care of it so whoever said that doesnt know what theyre talking about. i think me and you just especially thick and coarse hair.
Hi, i love your channel and what you are doing. Keep it up. I have a question for you: what kind of hair treatment do you use --i mean to assist with your hair growth? If you don't, pls recommend one for me. I live in Australia and i have similar hair like yours. Thanks
@miseva2 - I am not sure what you mean by treatment. There is no treatment that I use for hair growth except a deep conditioner but that is for the health of the hair I have.
@BrittneyChristina - It depends on how straight you want your hair to be and how much the hair needs to get straight. I would probably guess at least 50 degrees lower than the original temperature.
I just subscribed to your channel and I find it very interesting; in good way. I will be trying this out for myself. I do have a question for you. I don't own a flat iron like yours exactly, but I do own a MaxiGlide(I don't know if you have heard of this). The MaxiGlide is 2 metal plates, one side which is straight and the other side with teeth to allow heat to be evenly distributed and for the hair to not clump together. Should I used my MaxiGlide or get a flat iron???
@Brittanynic16 Thanks also do flat iron during the week u wear ur hair straight? or flat ironing routine maintains your hair during the week? and how many weeks did it takr u to compleyly heat train your natural hair?
@jenni15412 - I usually use the flatiron once a week after washing. I did not start heat training from scratch. I developed the process over a period of time so it hard to say how long it took me.
Great video, I have 4c hair and I get single strand knots on the ends of my hair because it is nappy, not curly..lol. I grew up in the 70's and use to get press and curl every couple of weeks. I never experienced heat damage and after i washed my hair it was nappy again, so it is possible to put heat on your hair and not get heat damage, aslong as the flat iron is not too hot
@MSFSUMMERS - The burnt smell usually comes from the iron or the products that you use. Make sure your iron is clean, use a small amount of heat protectent and check the quality of your iron. It should be ceramic or termoline (sp).
Hey love ur hair. I been natural for almost two years without much hair growth. Besides I'm not a hair person so I don't know how to properly care for it, but I'm slowly learning.but my question is how could I start heat training cuz my hair do grow but since its sooooo knky then I comb thru it I can't retain the hair I grow please help me.
@JESSKISS19 - To heat train do what I did in this video (of course customized for yourself) on the entire length of your hair. See my heat training guide videos also
this may have been asked before, so apologies in advance if it has. but you say you do this every 4-6 weeks. so how often do you wash your hair and how do you manage the texture reversion after washes when you are in between you 4-6 week heat training?
Hi Brittanynic16, is your heat in celcius or farenheit? I'm British and we use celcius. I'm about to start heat training and don't want to get it wrong. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your regime. I have always had really thick, long hair but in 2008 I started getting weaves (sew-ins) and the beautician would cut my hair everytime I got a new weave....so I switched beaticians. Now, I just got my weave taken out about a week ago and got it flat ironed. My hair is natural and my current beautician is trying to get me to keep my hair as is....in my mind it is going to be too much work but your demonstration makes it look manageable.

one question, i knwo this has probale been asked before, but how often do you do this? like every 2 months every 6months? or just every time you notice your new growth is getting 'out of texture'??
@savanza - I am sorry. That is not correct. I meant to say that I started out at once a week or every two weeks but now I am at once every 4 to 6 weeks. In this video I was doing it once every week. HTH
Wow, Your hair is so beautiful and thick very healthy whoever said it wasn't needs there head examine lol. I think I might try this technique when I'm not so lazy lol, I usually just keep my hair braided up and wear wigs I've been natural for longer than 10 years and notice the less I do to it the more easier it grows now it's at the length near tail-bone when I stretch it out I haven't flat ironed it in a long while to know how long it is when it's straight
You say you have coarse hair. That's probably why this works for you. I can just imagine my poor fragile strands frying up at the idea of being heat trained.
@ananse77 - Maybe so but millions of people seem to be doing the BKT with success. It the same thing minus baking a product into the hair and a one size fits all attitude. But, to each there own.
I have a question. I have shoulder length hair. If I want to start heat training, do I use a high temperature setting to heat train and to style...or do I just stick to a very hot temperature for the roots and a cooler one for the style if the hair has never been heat trained? Basically, what are the rules for a first timer?
@jessiepooh02 - I would start at the same temperature for the entire head. Once the hair is trained to the desired texture then lower the temperature for styling.
@briellellelley - the technique is meant to loosen your curl pattern and keep straight styles longer. But if the hair comes in contact with water it will poof. But I have never had it fully revert while sweating .
I am grateful to you because you have helped me to have a new plan as I transition. I will be transitioning for at least a year. I figure if I wait longer than that, it will be a few months until the summer is done. Thanks again!
Hi Brittany! I bought a jilbere flatiron that goes up to 450 degrees and it worked! I finally seen that my texture has changed. My hair is so much easier to comb and part. Most of all my ends aren't as curly as they were so my ssk prob may be out the door!!! I probably have 1 or 2 more sessions before I'm done with my entire length. Thanks for all your help and the videos!!!
how long did it take for the length of your hair to be heat trained? My hair is currently about shoulder length. Im wondering how long my hair might take to be trained. My hair is about the same texture as yours
@Bklynladee - I honestly don't remember. But, like I say in the video is should take no more than 3 to 4 sessions. How often you do it is up to you. :-)
Hi Brittany! So far ive done 3 sessions w/ my original chi(no temp control) and I did 20 passes. My hair still reverts the same ans with the same amount of shrinkage. So I was wondering, do you think I should more passes or just do more sessions... like however many it takes to get it whr I want it to be Thanks!!
@Brittanynic16 Hi Brittany! I'm going to buy a a flat iron that goes up to 450 degrees today and I'll be doing another session friday. I'll let you know if it makes a difference!!
Thank you for doing this! And thank you for being so thorough. You've answered all of my questions! I also stopped BKTing and I now think I may have inadvertently heat trained my hair. At least now, I know what watch out for as far as decreasing the heat on the already straight sections.
Gorgeous hair Brittany! I was just about to do my first heat training session today based on your explanations on the other videos but I'm glad that I watched you actually do it first hand. Oh to have hair that can be blow dried on cool! That would be heaven to me! lol *Off to heat train*
Thanks for the informative videos! Once your hair is straigtened do you have any issues with dry hair and do you use any oils/moisturisers to maintain moisture and if so please share them. I'm interested in heat training as I cant deal with single strand knots anymore!! But I suffer from extremely dry hair and dont know what products that will help me maintain moisture without having my hair revert back to its natural state.
@ansilalijones - When I wore my hair in it's natural state I had the same problem. But, it is no longer an issue for me. I will make a video on my maintainence. After I am done styling I apply the leave in to help close my cluticles of my hair and apply more shine serum. I then wrap my hair. That is all I do every night until the next wash day. I find that if I apply a moistuzier before warpping I don't have problems with reverstion. HTH

Brittanynic16 1 year ago
@Brittanynic16 wow, that often! so is that just your new growth or this whole regimen?
savanza 1 year ago
@savanza - I am sorry. That is not correct. I meant to say that I started out at once a week or every two weeks but now I am at once every 4 to 6 weeks. In this video I was doing it once every week. HTH

@savanza - PS I just do the new growth.

Wow, Your hair is so beautiful and thick very healthy whoever said it wasn't needs there head examine lol. I think I might try this technique when I'm not so lazy lol, I usually just keep my hair braided up and wear wigs I've been natural for longer than 10 years and notice the less I do to it the more easier it grows now it's at the length near tail-bone when I stretch it out I haven't flat ironed it in a long while to know how long it is when it's straight
niaZomba 1 year ago
@niaZomba - I would love to see pictures if you do decide to heat train. I am sure it would be lovely .
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
Thanks for sharing! I have 1 year of new growth, I'm going to try this. I tried BKT but I don't trust the chemicals.
I remember folks talking about 'training the hair' back in the day, but I was like what/// Now it makes sense.

I will try your technique out!!! Good job!!!!

You say you have coarse hair. That's probably why this works for you. I can just imagine my poor fragile strands frying up at the idea of being heat trained.
ananse77 1 year ago
@ananse77 - Maybe so but millions of people seem to be doing the BKT with success. It the same thing minus baking a product into the hair and a one size fits all attitude. But, to each there own.

I have a question. I have shoulder length hair. If I want to start heat training, do I use a high temperature setting to heat train and to style...or do I just stick to a very hot temperature for the roots and a cooler one for the style if the hair has never been heat trained? Basically, what are the rules for a first timer?
jessiepooh02 1 year ago
@jessiepooh02 - I would start at the same temperature for the entire head. Once the hair is trained to the desired texture then lower the temperature for styling.

This is a great way to transition. I think I'm going to do the same.

I'm really active, I work out about 4-5 times a week, how well does this technique work if you're working out, or sweat a lot?
briellellelley 1 year ago
@briellellelley - the technique is meant to loosen your curl pattern and keep straight styles longer. But if the hair comes in contact with water it will poof. But I have never had it fully revert while sweating .
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
How do you get the hair flat instead of bouncy and a lot of volume. Looks great though. You've came a long way.
D1Smith85 1 year ago
@D1Smith85 - Just flatiron the hair straight instead of adding the curls. Thanks for watching.
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
I am grateful to you because you have helped me to have a new plan as I transition. I will be transitioning for at least a year. I figure if I wait longer than that, it will be a few months until the summer is done. Thanks again!

@Econmajor88 - Once a week or every 2 weeks depending on how I feel.

@MsMartin87 - Great! Keep up the good work.
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
how long did it take for the length of your hair to be heat trained? My hair is currently about shoulder length. Im wondering how long my hair might take to be trained. My hair is about the same texture as yours
Bklynladee 1 year ago
@Bklynladee - I honestly don't remember. But, like I say in the video is should take no more than 3 to 4 sessions. How often you do it is up to you. :-)
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
Hi Brittany! So far ive done 3 sessions w/ my original chi(no temp control) and I did 20 passes. My hair still reverts the same ans with the same amount of shrinkage. So I was wondering, do you think I should more passes or just do more sessions... like however many it takes to get it whr I want it to be Thanks!!
MsMartin87 1 year ago
@MsMartin87 - I will send you a message.
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
@Brittanynic16 Hi Brittany! I'm going to buy a a flat iron that goes up to 450 degrees today and I'll be doing another session friday. I'll let you know if it makes a difference!!

your hair has done nothing but improve! love it! so thick now and really growing!
SaggRex 1 year ago
Thank you for doing this! And thank you for being so thorough. You've answered all of my questions! I also stopped BKTing and I now think I may have inadvertently heat trained my hair. At least now, I know what watch out for as far as decreasing the heat on the already straight sections.
KarishaIs 1 year ago
Gorgeous hair Brittany! I was just about to do my first heat training session today based on your explanations on the other videos but I'm glad that I watched you actually do it first hand. Oh to have hair that can be blow dried on cool! That would be heaven to me! lol *Off to heat train*
blackhairinformation 1 year ago
@blackhairinformation - Good luck!!
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
@AquariusFuscia - I would start with the higher heat on the roots and a lower temp. on the length. Thanks for watching!
Brittanynic16 1 year ago
Thanks for the informative videos! Once your hair is straigtened do you have any issues with dry hair and do you use any oils/moisturisers to maintain moisture and if so please share them. I'm interested in heat training as I cant deal with single strand knots anymore!! But I suffer from extremely dry hair and dont know what products that will help me maintain moisture without having my hair revert back to its natural state.
ansilalijones 1 year ago
@ansilalijones - When I wore my hair in it's natural state I had the same problem. But, it is no longer an issue for me. I will make a video on my maintainence. After I am done styling I apply the leave in to help close my cluticles of my hair and apply more shine serum. I then wrap my hair. That is all I do every night until the next wash day. I find that if I apply a moistuzier before warpping I don't have problems with reverstion. HTH
