how do you know the temperature is set to your hair type? because when your turning on the iron its not on your hair so it heats up at a high temperature then what happens so when you start straightening it adjusts the temperature to your hair type?
If you want a professional flat iron and you are ok with spending around $140 I would highly recommend the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it heats up to 450f with temperature control, dual voltage, tourmaline ceramic plates with rounded edges which makes it great for also curling your hair. Also has a 3 year warranty. If you do look at other irons make sure to stay away from irons with painted plates (colored plates) these can damage your hair.
@chinesefiredrill2 Ahh, I didnt mean the girl spruiking the virtues of the GHD! It was just a comment alluding to it being a shame that you cannot buy a device that flattens body parts! Also I have been told my my Hair guru that the "Silver Bullet " is the best Hair straightner now, I bought a GHd for $300 au..its great but Xe!The silver bullet has new glass heating surface as opposed to Ceramic ..
I've been wanting this for so loooooong, but here in australia its like $300. :$ the next time my parents ask me what i want this christmas, i know what im saying.
GHD is the besssst. I have really thick, coarse hair - it's asian but CURLY - & the GHD leaves it smooth & straight the whole day w. a little serum. Amazing & definitely worth the hefty price.
@marzil It gets extremely hot ! there's actually a setting inside of the ghd that makes it adjust to the amount of heat you need to get your hair straight without damaging it ! i used to use a clothes iron on my hair and the ghd gets it straighter faster without the damage ! i definitely recommend getting one ! its completely worth the money !
@LittleJazmin96 it hasn't damaged my hair & i've used it at least twice a day since july ! i love the ghd, i could never use another straightener again after using my ghd.
@sportsgurl16 aha I should have noticed that your comment said 2 months ago... but yeah CHI's are good I used to have one but my sister took it with her to college so then I got a GHD :D
OMG I just love my Ghd's too!!!!! I got them at jasonshankey.co.uk for half Price!!! Loving it! They are complete Life savers!!! Curly or Straight! :D
you should also try nano silver from sally's beauty supply it works the same way and is much cheaper if you even have a sally's beauty supply there. yeah go cheek it out :)
I got the limited ed precious gift set for xmas and it has changed my life, like its wonderfull!!!!! I like the way it turns off as well, with my old straightner I left it on when I went to school and my parents where at work and I burnt a whole in the bathroom bench!!!
have you ever heard of 'she' straighteners, the GHD company was run by a husband and wife team but they split and she started a new company with straighteners that are about half the price of GHD's I don't know how they work though. And great review! I too find it tricky finding something which works for my hair
Since it knows what temperature your hair needs, does it remember it forever?
Because my mum and I share a straightener, we have a Chi now. :)
But, if I use it and she uses it will it (I don't know how to say it) but like, will it remember my hair and then not work for hers, we have like opposite hair types.
I don't know about this. I bought a chi a few years ago, and you can definitely see the age on it. Straighteners do wear out, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to spend as much on a hair straightener as I would on a handbag.
I've had my GHD for almost 3 years,, I love it! I have the hot pink one, but I am thinking about buying the new 'precious' edition.. its so pretty! :)
I've had my ghd's for over a year and wouldn't be without them....I tried a couple of cheaper ones first (false economy) and there was no comparison!!
They have really good coustmer services as well. Mine broke (and fused the whole house - hahaa) and we sent them back even though they were outside the warrenty and they send me a brand new hot pink pair!
Haha, good point. I would not press my finger on it, due to the 2nd and 3rd degree burns I would recieve on my fingers. However, I think that if I am safe with my hair, it's okay. I like my hair much more when I straighten it.
I absolutely dispised the Wen system.. I could rinse and rinse and my hair still felt like there was product in it. Glad it worked for you though. I;ve been on the market for a new straightner... Im using a Conair right now and it's just frying my hair. Do they have cheaper models of GHD or is there only one ?
Hi what is a good heat protector please tell me i dont want supper dry hair the ghd stuff sounds good but is probably expensive what less expensive one do u remcomend?
When my cousin wanted a GHD a few months back, she made a list of everything why. The one that that sold her dad was: After 3 mins it turns off automatically.
She was always leaving her straightener on and risking their house burning down. She loves how it turns off and it puts her father at ease.
Im sorry, but you already have pretty straight hair. The GHD is made for people with extremely course hair, it's has thicker plates to flatten thick, course hair. Oh and the GHD IS the best flat iron out there, no doubt

If you wouldn't press your finger on it, why would you put your hair through that?
Heat damages hair. Whether blow drying or ironing.
At least:
Use silicone serum to coat and protect the hair. (No alcohol products + silicone = plastic)
Always use it on the lowest setting.
Don't use it on a daily basis.
Don't use it on wet hair. Towel dry your hair.
Most importantly do not use an oil with a hair straightner. Thats like literally deep-frying your hair.
sashkalitcheski 2 years ago
Haha, good point. I would not press my finger on it, due to the 2nd and 3rd degree burns I would recieve on my fingers. However, I think that if I am safe with my hair, it's okay. I like my hair much more when I straighten it.
