  • Why does spying seemingly occur in some postoperative patients?

  • Do the tonsils ever grow back?

  • What percentage of the human population has received a tonsillectomy?

  • @scunnylass2007-how long after the surgery was it before they grew back? my grandfather's grew back 3 times.

  • @youtakemeplaces i had them out when i was 15 i am now 22 and went to the doctors 3 months ago; it was there that she told me my tonsils were inflamed .. i never knew they grew back so it was a bit of a shock!

  • i had mine out and they grew back.. waste of an operation IMO..!!!!

  • @scunnylass2007 I've never heard of that happening! I believe your story, but I just hope mine don't grow back!

  • @abysmalatrocious yea i know i was dropped jawed when my doctor told me i had them...gutted as i used to suffer bad with my tonsils i just hope i don't get the same problems again!

  • @abysmalatrocious i know i was drop jawed when my doctor told me.. i am gutted as i had problems with my tonsils.. i just hope i dont second time around!

  • @scunnylass2007 What type of tonsilectomy was it? I read somewhere that theres a sort of spin off of the traditional removal where some of the tonsil is left behind in favor of a faster recovery but risks them growing back ( you being lymph things n all )

  • @Hydrasis i have no idea what kind it was although my recovery was not quick; i caught an infection which made my life hell and the recovery even longer

  • @scunnylass2007 if these suckers grow back, they'll be staying! will not do this shit again. so dreading it....

  • Get mine out Tuesday, found out Ima have to stay in the hospital over night :/

  • i just had mine done today, the surgery went by fast but my throat hurts.

  • are u sure this is how its done.....!?!

and are u depressing the tongue manually and intermittenly only.

  • are u sure this is how its done.....!?!

  • butcher

  • im scared :S

  • I had mine done a year ago, i was 18. The paaaaaain haha. But it's worth it after about 3weeks.

  • the american way is so mush simpler

  • @1narutodudee and safer !

  • i was hoping that he ended the video with a thank you come again

  • i was gna get this done not now

  • Taaaaaaanjaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :-))))))))))))))

  • what's up with The Bodyguard music in the background?

    i wouldn't get this done.

  • LOL WTF!? i got mine out 7 days ago and i didnt get stiched up or anything! this video is like, the worst tonsil surgery evar!

  • @bunkindatrunk That's because this is one method preferred by this particular surgeon. Each surgeon has a preferred method of tonsillectomy based on their own experience, who taught them, and which research they subscribe to. Had mine out 2wks ago via cautery but I ended up rehospitalised a week later from bleeding possibly caused by a post-op infection - which meant a second round of antibiotics. Despite method, bleeds are still common because of how fragile the new vessel growth in the area is

  • I had mine done yesterday and I'm still suffering from throat pain, can't open my mouth wide.

  • Do they stitch that up with the gauze still in there?

  • i had mine done today is one of the worse pains i have even experienced but i have eaten solids foods even if it does hurt so much its the best way to help it heal faster and stop getting infections

  • I had this done when I was 6...

  • OHH HELL NAAAA IM NOT GETTIN MY TONSILS REMOVED IN INDIA!!!!

  • i just had this done yesterday, it doesnt even hurt, but it feels like brock lesnar punched me in the throat when i try to swallow food

  • Guys guys guys...

Seriously, stop being pussies man haha.

I read so many articles on people like you whining and bitching over tonsillectomy's and how painful they are before my tonsillectomy [which was 7 days ago].

Im 16 years old and went absolutely fine, i was eating proper food the NIGHT OF MY OPERATION. Sure, it was pretty painful for a few days.. but it gets so much better. Im hardly in pian at the moment and can eat anything i want with pulling a face. So chill you whiny little bitches.

  • @NeoShredder94 That's because you had yours done before you hit 20. Past 20yrs of age it is more painful, and there are high chances of post-op complications. The younger you have a tonsillectomy, the faster the recovery and the less painful it is.

  • wtf!!!!

  • I had this done to me when i was 4 it's kind of interesting looking at this.

  • i got my tonsils taken out when i was like 4 and for like 1 week all i had was apple juice and popsicles lol :)

  • MY FATHER IS IN FOR A PAIN RIDE!!!!!!

  • Wow! No wonder you're sore after the surgery. I'm getting mine out soon I hope I heal fast like I do for everything else.

  • @ladey2181 sure you will cause you get to eat ice cream when your done with the operation

  • @sbskjs11 Ice cream is the worst thing to eat, dairy causes your saliva to get thicker and can harbor bacteria. But popsicles are just as good! :) I'm getting mine out tomorrow... :s ew.

  • why is the room dark?

  • good job everybody I did no more infections with 20 days. No hard food just cold and soft food only and stay home for 2 weeks no work I am 36 yrs .Today i wached the video very very scare .

  • Getting mine out in cork Ireland on the 27th july which is in 2 days, hope i'm one of the lucky ones that recovers really fast :) wish me luck,

  • I had mine out like 2 years agoe im 13 now , JEEZ IT HURT!

  • OH GAWWWWWWD

  • Get painkillers you can dissolve in water. Swallowing pills is a %*$* after surgery.

  • @faithta what difference does it make its the same surgery as you see here you retard!!!!!

  • Had mine done yesterday. I'm 38 and its worse the older you are. Very sore to swallow at the moment but high on codeine so that's good!! LOL.

Just glad its done now - no more infections - no more pain once the surgery pain settles!!!

  • i'm getting mine out tomorrow :-(

    i'm sixteen.

  • im getting my tonsels out today omfg

  • I getting mine out tomorrow and I am nervous about it. More of the pain of healing from it than the actual surgery itself. I am having this done at the age of 30 due to the fact that I get tonsil infections all the time. I kind excited to because after it is over I do not have to worry so much about catching a cold or getting sick because now every time I do I get sick I get swollen tonsils. So I kind of shy away from people as a result. I want it done I am just nervous.

  • @rastachucker3 I just got this done last week, and I was looking forward to it, because of the BENEFITS of not getting strep every winter. Six days after the surgery, it hurts when I swallow, but at least I can sleep flat on my back and breathe properly.

  • when i was 4 i was running w/ a stick in my mouth and fell and the stick gave me a tonsillectomy

  • what happends after surgery can u still talk eat or what im fucking scared

  • @Jrr011497 i had mine out quite a few years ago. youll be a little sore, so eating things that are cold, like popsicles and ice cream, feels really good. youll still be able to talk and everything, it just feels like a real bad sore throat for like, maybe a week. dont be scared :) the worst part was when i woke up from anesthesia, because they have an oxygen mask on you, and oxygen getting in the freshly-cut area hurts a bit, but they usually let you take it off pretty quickly. ull be fine :)

  • im getting mine out July 8th

  • @IceRoadTrucker1000 I'm getting mine out the 7th. I'll let you know how it goes.

  • @michaelencarnacion im getting mine removed on 7th as well ..im so nervous...

  • @Simritas had mine done on the 8th... how you feelin?

  • Got mine removed in feb',

Had to stay of school for 2weeks

and I get a sharp pain in the back of by throat from one of the stiches (well tats what ive been told),,

<3 Btw if anyone is getting theirs out soon,, dnt be scared,

I was in a little pain after but i recoved very quickly i was only of skl because of infections that could pass on,.. :) x

  • This almost looks like malpractice for americans. We americans have fancier ultrasonic cutting apparatuses

  • @totallyairplanecrazy Ohhhhh so cooooool, what are being tech-no-logy?

  • GOOD

  • the ppl who said not to get them taken out must not get alot of tonsil infection and they get swollen n very painful several times a year.....i had mine taken out 3 days ago and even tho im n pain...im ben in alot worse when they have ben infected...but if i had 2 do it again i would!!! yes im swollen from surgery but i can breathe sooo much better already!!!!

  • OMFG my doctor better say i dont have to get mine out or im going to go fuckin crazy on him.

  • A recent study states that tonsilectomy increases the risk of being overweight or obese in the years following surgery by as much as 61% in cases where tonsilectomy without adenoidectomy is performed, and up to 136% in cases of where tonsilectomy with adenoidectomy was performed.[21]

I think this has something to do with getting starved.

In fact, you shouldn't remove the tonsils as they are there as a buffer.

  • omg!

  • uuurrrggghhh im having this done tomorrow!!! :O

  • haha owned

  • @GTbmxconspiracy

don't get it done. live with the tonsillitis. it just aint worth it.

  • @lushkk no i dont have to get it done im just fin, just had to lol at him because he was scared

  • i remove this 3 days ago and i am still happy about my condition and hope doing fine.

  • got this done today..woohoooo

  • @SammiC0306 I got it done the same day

  • i had this done 5 days ago the worst pain still occurs in the morning. can't wait till i can eat like a fat ass again

  • @bmonte46 me too:( i had this 2 days ago.. I CAN'T EAT AND I CAN'T DRINK:'(

  • hi mate i am gettin done mine like in a week time and after all these vdeos and comments i feel like a pussy now, can you please honestly telll me how it feels like after getting them removed ??

  • It hurts like a bitch You can not even eat or drink after the surgery!

  • @platinum243125 Well, that means that whenever I have to have a tonsillectomy(I hope it's like, IN THE SUMMER because I DO NOT WANT TO MISS SCHOOL!) I'll have to EAT ALOT THE NIGHT BEFORE! LOL.

  • bmonte46- im counting down da day i can eat me some good food!!!! lmao

  • @bmonte46 haha lmao rite i juz got mine tookin out 6 days ago mane i wanna eat so much stuff but i cant.!!!

  • Omg Im 15 and I had mine takin out on the 26th of January and it sucks!!!! I can't eat anything I can't drink anything! I regret having the surgery!! But icecream does make it worse. I also get a stinging pain in my left ear. And my throat taste so gross!!! Spit keeps building up and it's hurts wen I spit it out or swollow it. I don't know how long it's gonna take to heal up though. If it takes a long time I know I can't take it ANYMORE!!!!!

So if u get it omg u should of done it at a yung age.

  • I had mine taken out because I kept having major problems with sore throats and constantly having to get IVs and all that jazz. after the surgery I couldnt eat for like 3 WEEKS! I dont know if the doctors screwed up somewhere or what(It is Kaiser so I shouldnt be surprised should I?) but I was in horrible pain. I weighed my self after it stopped hurting and I lost 11 pounds from not eating. Toatally blowed but at least I havent had a problem since....and that was 8 months ago. went by fast.

  • i too couldnt eat for 3 weeks. it hurt too mcuh.

  • i sttill have my tonsils. why does everyone get thier tonsils out, is it because it gets infected, or is it like circumcision, just for appearances and hygene or whatver?

  • @MrsPredNZ Its for people who have reoccuring sore throats. Believe me, it sucked going into the doctor everyday to get an IV for antibiotics. My surgery sucked ass, although a lot of people said it was no biggy and had no pain. I wasnt Lucky :(

  • well glad to say I have been lucky, they hve never cause me any problems, and hope it stays that way, lol.

  • What's with the music? :/

  • I just had this done to my throat ystrdy damn!!

  • ah!!!!! thats what they were doing in my throat!!!!!!!!!! jesus christ

  • Having mines out on the 28th. Geting laser surgery. Much better than this they showing.

  • good luck=]

  • im getting mines out december 22nd

  • The younger you are the less it hurts. I had mine taken out last summer and I was in a world of pain. I also had severe bleeding for 3 nights, lost more than 1 liter of blood. So they had to operate again... worst week of my life.

  • =[ that suxxxx! im havin mine out christmas-eve im scared does it hurt like ALOTT!!!!

  • Nower days they do laser tonsilectomy so don't worry.

  • i had mine out 3 days ago and im doing fine..

  • I got mine out YEARS ago.. when I was around 4 years old... So i can't remember a thing xD

  • i am getting my tonsils out on November 30. the day after my mom's birthday! what a wonderful present to my mom! lol! i am wondering if I will be able to keep them. i keep watching videos anout tonsillectomys so that i know what is going to happen in my mouth in just a week. i am soooo nervous and scared, but my friends and family keep saying that it will be worth it. i hope so because i keep having tonsillitis off and on every week since september and it is what... November? can't wait.

  • It's not bad just got mine out it like having a server soar throat and that's it. And it also has to with how you can handle pain.

  • I had mine out 2 years ago and its not to bad. It does hurt to eat ANYTHING though and they say Ice cream helps but it made it hurt worse.

  • I get mine out on the 12 of November lol.

  • omg, ow.

I just had it taken out yesterday.

  • What were the symptoms that you had ?

  • im getting mine out december 10th...... :(

  • damn, im having mine out next month november 10th. its gona suck lol

  • i had one two weeks ago. still not completely better. so glad i didn't see this before. i nearly threw up.

  • next wednesday I'm going to have a tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and palatopharyngeal surgery.. i'm really scared.. everyone's telling me that i won't be able to talk or eat and i'll be in sooo much pain :S

  • you will be fine it might already be done how did it go ?

  • good thing i'm getting mine takin out in america.

  • @faithta Don't kid yourself. The standards for American oral surgeons is remarkably low. To be certified in the US, you need to assist in 10 operations. In Canada, for example, you need to do to over 250. Not saying a good job won't be done, but being in 'America' isn't really a comfort in itself.

  • @faithta lol

  • @faithta lmfao thats a win for sure

  • Awesome. Thanks for the video.

The music makes the video easier to swallow xD

  • ouch, they're like yanking that thing out RIP OUT TONSILS. how nice

  • I had this done on thursday, and i'm still in excruciating pain. I'm 18, and was told they had to cut a lot of it out of my mouth. wish my mum would've let me have it done when i was younger.

  • I had my right tonsil removed 1 day ago, it really was easy, i was very nervous the night before, couldnt sleep, and the thought of being put under was scary, it was a very simple operation, i went in at 9am and was awake and walking out of the hospital at 11:45am, it really was easy. So anyone nervous or anxious please do not be, as it is not as bad as you expect. I have had more pain stubbing my toe...

  • i was told to use a wheel chair just until i get to the door but i was to stubborn to use it

  • thanks that helps, since I am planning to do it next week.

  • My 6 year-old had it done 2 hours ago. As for pain too early to tell. However, the way they act prior to be put under is how they wake up. The Dr. literally had to pick him up kicking and screaming, and this is how he came out of it.

  • Jus had mine removed yesterday.. pain isn't too bad! it's like having strep throat again :D Only issue is trying to get rid of flem and swelling and snoring like a beast at night.

  • There are easier ways now that ENT's perform tonsillectomy. This is just one way... i had my tonsils removed by cobulation. Faster and cleaner- I dont know any real side effects that are not normal...

  • I had HUGE tonsils that barely allowed me to breathe. I got them out 6 days ago and the pain has been excruciating. I had to go back into hospital to get bags of fluid put in me because I was in so much pain I couldn't drink water. However I can breathe so much better and I know I'm going to appreciate not having tonsilitis EVER AGAIN! Anyone who gets this done, make sure you have good antibiotics, good pain killers and good bed rest. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • i'm having it done next thursday jul 2.....uggghhhh

  • im getting mine done on the 3rd! lol good luck :0)

  • its not so bad they put you to sleep it only hurts when you wake up like after 4 hours

  • i'm only 16, I'll also have this operation this year... i'm afraid because I don't have much tolerance on too much pain...

  • Hi i got my tonsils taken out 6 days ago and i was petrified but i have been in very little pain seriously 40 minutes after my surgery i was muchin away it hurts a wee bit in the mornin but thats it i guess i got lucky but you really shouldnt be that worried if your getting it done its fine honestly just eat loads and take all your pills :)

  • Yeah; Your lucky.

I had mine out about 10 years ago and procedures were done differently, which made eating for about 2 weeks very difficult.

  • Does anyone know why tonsillectomies don't cause a gag reflex in the patient? Is it because of the meds?

  • I would assume it's because of the anasthesia and being knocked out, but I'm not sure..

  • Specific medication is used locally in order to prevent a gag reflex from happening. Same medication as when your are getting a Endoscopic tube placed down your trachea. I believe that the drug used is Ketamine, but I may be wrong.

  • Had my tonsils taken out 5 days ago - gonna be honest, the pain is hellish, very very painful experience. I not trying to scare but just prepare anyone who needs to have this done, be prepared for a rough time, but you can get through it. I'm on day 5 after surgery and am still in pain but it's a bit less, the pain was worst on days 3 and 4. I can't wait till the pain goes away, then I have to get a septoplasty, but that shouldn't be nearly as painful as this hell was lol..

  • omgg i got mine outt too andd i cant drink barleyyy and i can hardlyy talk and eatt andd i gett badd ear aches too.

wat r yoy getting done nestt and good luck:)

  • yeahh i knoww it's hard but keep drinking water even it hurts you have to or dehydration (which happened to me) will make it worse! plzz drink waterr lots and lots of water, and the swallowing will hurt but it exercises the muscles which is good for the healing process. as far as eating: soups, pudding, yogurts, things like that. soon i have to get a second surgery - septoplasty; im about 2 and a half weeks after tonsillectomy, the pain will go down a lot around days 10-12

  • got mine out last Friday. Thought I could come on here and watch the video. Nope!

  • i got mine taken out exactly a week ago actually..

needless to say it's one of the most painfull things i've ever felt after i woke up.

i'm still off solid foods..and have much trouble taking a sip of water. it's harsh, alot worse than it seems lol

  • I need to get this shit done. Amazing shit

  • Absolutely amazing stuff. Tonsillectomy is dangerous surgery, it takes very skilled hands to perform this surgery. drrufusrajadurai, you have my full admiration.

  • hahaha i love how he says the patient is in supine position no shit!!! if the patient was in the prone position the operation could not take place haha it would be hard lol

  • Shut up you moron.

  • listen no need to tell me to shut up because you have no sense of humor i was contemplating one since my upper airway was swollen and i had a serious case of OSA.. so if i can joke about it hmm no reason to get mad ....

  • Touched a raw nerve have we. Have some due respect for what you have witnessed,

  • i do have respect you buffoon... if i can have a sense of humor about it so can you...

  • gah this method looks barbaric

  • I know right? Now im afraid to get that done but I heard they use a laser burner thing (good use of words ugh? ha)

  • Yes they do use it now, medicine has moved on a bit since scapels... the pain and healing time is reduced, and when eating toast should be offered as its important to get rid of any roughage around the area. Hope that helps a bit.

  • i hope i never need surgery on any part of me :( im scared now

  • oh my god that is nastde

  • i got my tonsils out when i was 2 years old, i dont remeber how bad it hurt though

  • thanks for sharing this informative video! I'm a student surge tech....Excellent info!

  • I'm scared, recently I'm having trouble swallowing, and it hurts when I do. I can also feel something in the bottom of my jaw like a swelling, my dad tells me it's my tonsil, and I'm wondering if I have to go through this. :O

  • How those your mouth feel, tongue, lips, after getting this done? My 4 yo is sch for Jun 2nd. HAve you seen any changes in your breathing?

  • I had my tonsillectomy a week from now. I think my surgeon ended it with suturing it. Just wanna ask, is it normal that those sutures will keep on hangin on my throat since not all the stiches are fully removed on the site? I usually vomit because of this...grr

  • Haha everyone who watched this just got their tonsils out, myself included. It was last friday so.... 4 days ago now. I'm still in pain.

  • I got mine done last thursday. it hurt but not to the extreme. my tongue turned a little brown though...is that normal?

  • do you have any kind of pain or swelling in tongue?if you feel any abnormality u have to go for a checkup for precaution.

  • i had mine done this monday.. i want to die.. it hurts too much

  • I got mine out on monday and its still really sore, but i have a problem in tat im after getting a nose infection and its leaving loads of mucus in my throat and its the most horrble taste ever. Which is making it so much harder to eat. But hopefully in the end it will all be worth it

  • i didnt have stiches mine were cauterized! and its so awesome to see the procedure i had done!! im on my 9th day getting better but still feeling a bit awkward

  • damn, I cant find anything on my tonsils i tend to get tonsilitis and strep throat alot so mine are coming out. For some reason whenever I get strep or tonsilitis my tonsils look all shredded like I swollowed some thumb tacks. do ya'll know anything?

  • I wish I could afford to get this done, as I am suffering and have been suffering for a long time. In grad school, with no health insurance whatsoever.

  • Ahaha, love the Accent.

  • Thank you very much for posting this video..It's nice to see the actual video then to read out of books...i understand it so much better!!!!! I cant wait to perform one of those surgeries myself someday :)

  • I've had my tonsils taken out on my birthday hahahahaha. It's not as bad as being sick all the time, put it that way. You feel like shit for about a week or less, but then that's it. I didn't have many complications, you're asleep for the entire procedure. It's an in-and-out surgery really.

  • has anyone gotton a tonsilectomy here i might have to get it and im freaked out please help me

  • i havn't but i've been considering it, i've gotten strep like three or four times this year alone 9 i mean like from today a year ago, mostly from school) and my tonsils have always given me problems, but i would have to say that the more you focus on it the more you will be freaked out pre-op, this is a foregin video and the medical tools in america are alot more advance, and micro tools are used usally, but if you focus on it then your sub consious will create a nightmare while you are out

  • I got a tonsillectomy about two weeks ago. My throat is still sore a little but I'm probably going back to school in a day. If you have any questions about it feel free to message me on my youtube account. I am turning 19 this month, and I heard tonsillectomies are much worse for older people like me than they are for little kids. Any questions just message me :)

  • P.S. If you have to get it done I wouldn't recommend watching videos like this. It will only scare you more. Only now, after my surgery, am I choosing to actually watch the videos of how it's done. They'll give you "I don't care" medicine and before you go into surgery you will feel whoozy and happy. You'll wake up, almost no pain, and the nurses will be telling you how everything went fine.

  • those tonsils dont even look big

  • those it hurt

  • yikessss godforbid i have to do this..eeek

  • I might have to do this :(

  • I ate 5 burgers and drank my first day out of hospital lol , at day 5 so far .. and eating properly.. just avoiding acidic foods.. took advantage of those burgers after i was still on pain killers haha.. haven't needed anything stronger than simple panadol so far.. and don't think i will considering they said day 4 to 5 was the worst time... you guys don't need to worry :) If you have good doctors you will be fine... if they look suss then watch out haha..

  • i had this like 9 months it doesn't hurt

  • I'll take coblation tonsillectomy over a knife any day!!!!
