great story, it seems when people really grow old, we came to realize the value of life, like these guys, they were young then, only fulfilling they're duties for their countries, and at the end they become friends. I remember in the dogfights, dan cherry and his wingman fired a number of missiles before dan actually hit the vietnamese pilot, good pilot indeed=).
Amazing story! Just goes to show how stupid war is. War, which is usually a dispute between old farts called leaders, and young people end up killing eachother. Young people that could have been best friends.
What a wonderful story! EVERYONE can learn something from this, to bad 90% of the people who watch this will never get it passed their hate filled hearts.
War is hell, and these two gentlemen know it perfectly, my admiration for both of them. Hope that every military personel of every country ends like this. No proudness on killing others, no purpose what so ever. keep flying high and safe.

Hmm, more responses that have nothing to do with the original subject.
I'm aware that people like you genuinely want to believe that the people they are debating with are just angry and bitter, because for you, you then don't have to address the substance of their arguments, you just claim that the arguments are irrelevant because you have proclaimed that person to be "angry" or "racist" or whatever other words you choose to use in your attempt to discredit rather than disprove.
"They even used this term during the campaign 2008 against Mccain"
I'm aware. And if someone had called Obama something anything other than praiseworthy regarding his ethnicity, it would have been vociferously condemned by the media. It's a double standard and simply because it was used during the campaign doesn't mean it was appropriate or accurate, it was political propaganda.
And there are many ultra liberal whites in the U.S. who absolutely have issues with their racial identity.
Angry white man has nothing to do with race, they use it for pple like you, who knows nothing about history and what is going on around the world. all they know is work from mon-friday and spend the whole paycheck on the weekend. start all over again on monday. When I call you white trash is racist, which you are. still you are not my enemy because I don't even know you..
haha. Yet you've historically refuted nothing that I've said. And I'd love to understand how the term "angry white man" has anything to do with knowledge of history or current events. It doesn't, and anyone who uses it as often and unprovoked as you have clearly has an issue with the white race. Try and refute it if you wish, but you've made it quite apparent. I could care less what race you are, you are a simple minded fool and that's all that stands out to me about you.
"still you are not my enemy because I don't even know you.."
So you acknowledge that you don't know me yet proclaim me over and over again to be an "angry white man" and "white trash" solely because I refute your revisionist and fallacious take on American policy.
Amareto, you are mind numbingly ignorant. The bad thing about the internet is that the great majority of those who comment on complex matters are ignorant like you and it widens the perception of disagreement among sides.
Who asked you your opinion? 2 well known Presidents and respected express their feelings. wether you agree or disagree with Obama, his approval rating is over 60% he does not need Michael, Trust me. You know you told me to to study history and you don't even know what coup that I am talking about..I don't have a time to teach you anything Michael. No free lunch in America. Give me your credit card# if you want to learn history, stronzo..
You did idiot. You asked it multiple times stemming from the Vietnam remark and then you wandered off into all types of erroneous subject areas.
"2 well known Presidents and respected express their feelings"
Yes, and you treated their remarks as if they were gospel. I explained why that is not the case and that plenty of scholars and other respected leaders take a completely different position on the matters.
And what was Bush's at this point in his first term? Not to mention that Obama was UNDER 60% in recent polls.
"You know you told me to to study history and you don't even know what coup that I am talking about."
Because you are very vague and ambiguous. Why not just specify the coup? As illogical and revisionist as you've been, lord knows what kind of events you call "coups." If you are not referring to the 1953 coup than please specify.
If I tell the truth I am biased haa. Is that how it works? Jimmy Carter was in Gaza 2 days ago, and said that he is responsible as an American for what is happening to the Plestinian pple since the Israelians are using American bombs.
Obama, on his Cairo speech said that the US was behind the Iranian coup
.(Democratic elected Gov.) They both biased haa? You have to be man enough to admit your mistakes, eventhough I don't know what bathroom you use..Michael.
The truth is clearly what's being debated here, chief.
And as for Jimmy Carter, I'm not aware of what he said the other day nor do I care. Jimmy Carter is irrelevant and does not speak on behalf of the US. He was one of our weakest presidents and was crushed by Reagan after his one term of failure. And as for Obama, I disagree with his ideology and policies as well. Being as he and I belong to differing political parties there's no real surprise there.
"Obama, on his Cairo speech said that the US was behind the Iranian coup"
What "coup" are you referring too? If it's the coup that installed the Shah than it has been common knowledge for quite sometime that the CIA had a hand in that, thus what's your point?
Clearly you have an agenda Amareto and your interests are not America's interests. So why should I care if you support America's foreign policy decisions or not considering you have no interest in seeing the U.S.'s interests furthered?
You got to be kidding me: Dick Cheney said repeatedly Mohamed Ata the master mind of 911 met with Saddam Husen right before 911. Where do you live Wyoming?
I'm aware of what Dick Cheney said and it wasn't that Iraq was behind 9/11. You are making fallacious statements regarding the American position prior to the war either intentionally to further your agenda or unintentionally out of ignorance. And Mohammed Atta was not the mastermind behind 9/11 nor did Cheney claim that he was, Kaleid Shakh Mohammed was.
The Iraq War was a result of more aggressive foreign policy in the region following 9/11, not a direct correlation between Iraq and 9/11.
I don't watch CBS when I am traveling, as a matter a fact on my last trip in middle east I sat on Shisha Cafes and talked to real pple about what they think about Michael, the ungry white man who only speaks 1 language and his government told him that the Iraqis are his enemy. you know what they say: we don't even know Micael, how are we going to be his enemy? Nobody hates you Michael stop calling pple "ENEMIES"
What words did I put in your mouth Amareto? I think you lack reading comprehension. Experience with multiple foreign languages doesn't improve one's natural abilities regarding reading comprehension now does it? No, it sure doesn't.
And more baseless presumptions supported with no facts.
And who did I call "enemies?" You falsely claimed that Americans viewed Iraqis as enemies, not I. I simply upheld the common notion that anyone who engages you in combat is your enemy.
It has to do with a lot of thing angry white man. I can watch the and listen the foreign TVs and radios, unlike you who only depend on one network. When it comes to foreign policy I guarantee you I am better than G.Bush who you voted for him twice. Whatever they need from me (State Dep.)I know they dying for someone like me. That's all....
Do you know if you speak Arabic or Farisi you will make 120000 a year. You are not even going to work for a whole year, you basically working 9 months and 3 months off tax free, yes TAX FREE.. I hope you know what farisi is. So, I do have a lot of options in life thank god. That's the advantage of traveling around the world and speaking foreign languages. The state department are dying to have pple like me.
What the shit does this have to with anything? Good fucking God man. You speak several languages, awesome!! That doesn't mean you are knowledgeable of the conditions and philosophy that brought America into the Vietnam War. In fact, you seem to be quite biased against the U.S. and uninformed, driven rather by anti-American interests.
And the state department may want you for translating and cultural analysis, but I guarantee you they don't want you for your opinions on foreign policy.
I rather see myself what is going on around the world instead of depending on catie Couric to tell me what is going on the streets of Cairo. It needs courage and confident. You think is easy to speak 4 different languages and see the world? Anyways you still running behind the bushs and you don't want to answer the question I asked you..remember what it was?
You presume that people only get their knowledge from newscasters, that's your whole argument. You're pathetic. Would you like to say something intellectual or to support your claims or would you rather just continue making absurd accusations without actually engaging in the subject at hand?
"You think is easy to speak 4 different languages and see the world?"
When did I say such and what does that have to do with anything? Oh that's right, I didn't, and it doesn't.
you still running behind the bushs and you don't want to answer the question I asked you..remember what it was?
You are one delusional son of a bitch. Funny thing to say considering you havent spoken to anything on subject since your first post.
And hey Einstein, go back and read my comments and youll find that I did answer your question. You haven't substantively refuted a thing I've said, you just spout off non-sense about traveling the world and speaking foreign languages.
Michael you can't be serious on this, common. To this day I still remember, I was working the night US attacked Iraq. I remember the head of the security walked in to the cafeteria and said anybody excited, we are ataacking Iraq tonight, like the NBA finals. One of the managers loughed and said "oh yeah". I can't tell you right now, but 2 or 3 years ago a lot of pple thought Iraq was behind 911 including Dick Cheney. if i were you i would apologize instead of trying to win the argument.
Still struggling to figure out the "reply" feature I see. Things get quite ambiguous when you don't use it. And as for you claims for Iraq, you're using an anecdotal instance as support for an unsubstantiated generalization that American's thought Iraq was it's enemy and this perception "got Bush elected twice." You haven't supported your claims whatsoever.
"a lot of pple thought Iraq was behind 911 including Dick Cheney"
"if i were you i would apologize instead of trying to win the argument"
haha. Are you 10 years old or is this really how you debate? Youve made no profound statements nor have you offered substantive thoughts supported with facts or reason. In fact, youve done quite the opposite. And you implore me to apologize? haha
Im not the least bit worried about winning you over, buddy. I have no idea who you are and, to be frank, you come across as a simple-minded fool.
Michael71186, The experience I got even Ivy League Schools can not offer. ofcourse, I want to learn new stuff every day I wouldn't spent my time traveling if I don't want to learn.Your first comment sounded like that the Vietnam war was legal. And you even told me to check the history.I apoligize if I call you names.
A lot of pple believed that Iraq was enemy and voted for Bush twice and we knw the results?Recession. I am still waiting the answer from you though about the war in Vietnam.
"The experience I got even Ivy League Schools can not offer"
This line of thinking is absurd. Yes, traveling abroad can broaden one's horizons and add culture and perspective, but it is nothing like a detailed academic study of history and international relations.Hand in hand they are quite complimentary but traveling itself is quite irrelevant in demonstrating the facts and circumstances of history. Just like speaking foreign languages is an erroneous factor, yet you seem unable to grasp this.
"Your first comment sounded like that the Vietnam war was legal."
Legal according to whom? Who is the global determinant of which wars are "legal?" I believe the war was justified in the context of the Cold War and in our own national interests, at least according to the perception at the time. If you don't take the Cold War into account when discussing the reasoning behind that war then you are either negligently uniformed or intellectually dishonest. It was a proxy war and a show of American
resolve to stand by our allies in the face of opposition and to resist the spread of communism.Maybe you are unfamiliar with the Domino Theory. Whether one finds that theory valid or not, it is quite a leading factor in guiding American foreign policy during that period and in influencing our stance in Vietnam.
"I apoligize if I call you names"
It's too late for that. You've already demonstrated your buffoonery and your irrational disdain for whites, which makes you appear even less credible.
"A lot of pple believed that Iraq was enemy and voted for Bush twice and we knw the results?Recession."
Not only have you made a false correlation in this statement but I reject the premise outright. This statement is non-sense and is not supported by the truth, it sounds rather like propaganda more than anything. Bush wasn't elected because of Iraq in 2000 and the American people did not view "Iraq" or it's people as an enemy. I don't know where you are getting your info but it's skewed.
Wars are started by businessmen and politicians. Lives lost and sorrow are the costs paid for by the civilians and soldiers who believe they are fighting to defend their homeland..
A+, and the sheep fall for it every time. The government attacks it's own people and blames it on the enemy and then you'll have hundreds of thousands of blind sheep ready and willing to "defend the homeland". It's a shame really but it's been working for the last several thousand years. Thanks to the internet and alternative media, a lot of light is being shed on this. Good reply.
@PlsB9s You need to turn off the news. The majority of our wars have been fought with good intentions. Our best intentions were of the veitnam war was stopping communism from taking asia.Imagine a world of Gulags, north koreas, and pol pots. Instead we have free countries. Freedom of speach. The right to any religion you choose (communist are usually athiest and dont allow the practice of religion) Weve had some bad leaders but as you can see here we have good people. God bless america
@meronmotors You're so...wrong. While the Soviets weren't great, neither were we. How many people were murdered and oppressed in Latin America in the name of the American way? How many in Vietnam? Cambodia? Laos? Our intentions were as sick and perverted as the Soviets and their communism. The Vietnam War can never be justified. Additionally, atheism and theism has nothing to do with this. This is about political ideology.
@DantehMan Latin america I cannot say much about... I have read enough books to know we didnt play nice. However I still disagree with you in asia. Imagine a communist asia. Japan the only country who is not who lives in fear. When we removed her horns and took its guns. Then we let it get swallowed by the communists. No body would trust us again. Second Asia would be lost. Europe was half lost. Africa was heading towards communism and so was latin america. This is why we did it.
@DantehMan Of course the war industries start drooling when they see the tensions build but we could have had alot of better oppertunities for wars that produces revenue. Anyways we may not agree on the motives or the results but you and I should be happy that we can disagree. Swing over to north K and tell them americans kept them out of the south. That they are wrong. I dont think you would live long. I know my countries far from perfect but its much further from bad.
@meronmotors I still don't think the ends justify the means when it comes to Vietnam. I can understand involvement in the Korean War, as the Koreans were our allies and they were invaded, but Vietnam was hardly a point of contention. Vietnam was a game of landgrab that cost 58,000 American lives and countless more Vietnamese lives, and for what? We lost. The communists won in Vietnam, and now look at the place. It's fine. We do business with it even. It wasn't worth it at all.
@DantehMan I think it would be worth it if it if wedidnt walk away.First and foremost vietnam was a british colony. They couldnt deal with it they had bigger problems so we said we would handle it. Landgrab for who? We won in korea do we own Korea? Its a business partner. I would like to point out that EVERY comunist country that Iam aware of has killed many many of its own whether it be stalin in the ussr. polpot cambodia, kim korea, zedong. When Vietnam leaves communism we will hear about theirs
calireus66, you absolutely right. I think he doesn't want to admit the facts, or may be he is impressed with my resume and he doesn't want to challange me. I am still waiting from him.
wow...are you kidding me? First of all, you haven't presented ANY "resume." You've claimed to have visited 15 countries and lived on 4 continents. Sorry buddy, that's not a resume. And it certainly doesn't signify that you understand politics or history. The very fact that you think it does and promote it as such is actually very damning for your credibility.
Oh, and FYI, maybe the reason I didn't respond to your comment is because I wasn't aware that you made one. You have to hit "reply" in order for the person to be notified that someone has made a remark geared at them. But maybe you're right, maybe I'm just too intimidated by your "resume." hahahahahahaha!!
a very beautiful story. they were just soldiers fulfilling their duty. they knew what it will be when they joined thus no matter what the reason behind was behind the war, they both served their countries well. being in military is already a suicide, especially if you're in airforce, you double the risks. i just hope that those who are in military right now would be that compassionate with his fellow mankind eventhough they are in opposite sides. serving ones country is heroic.
Michael71186 ,Educate me pls What was the reason behind the war in Vietnam? Seriously..I lived in 4 different continent, I have been to more than 15 countries, I speak 4 different languages..I do not need to learn history.I met pple all of the world, unlike you who only watches Fox news and speak 1 language. you sound like, ungry white man who only speaks 1 language. I am still wating the answer:
Both wars were started for the same reason... to keep the "military industrial complex" busy perfecting weapons. Wars are the best testing grounds for new weapons systems.
They can't determine the effectiveness of a weapon system until they unleash it in real circumstances against real people.
The military became a lot more effective at killing people after Vietnam... just as it is becoming better today in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Yep, and lets also look at who owns those war profeteering companies as well as their big share holders. Bush, Cheney, and the majority of Congress. People need to get involved in politics if they want any kind of change. Thank god for the internet. I love when people like you come in here and post the truth for others to see and hopefully get them involved in researching these things. They will be guaranteed to be led right to 9/11/2001 which was the last phoney event that brought us to war.
Don't forget Obama, Biden, Pelosi and friends who are also supporting the military industrial complex. Obama isn't getting out of Iraq any time soon and he sent 11,000 more troops to Afghanistan.
Our federal government is corrupt. People need to realize Obama is the new leader of the same bad government... a sugar coated version of Bush. Because they knew we would buy Obama's lies for a while and keep the machine moving.
Yep, you're absolutely right. There is no such thing as left or right or democrats or republicans. They are all on the same team. Sadly, the very few of us who understand this are severely outnumbered by those who are still fast asleep and have no clue. It's too late to stop what's coming now. All we can do is brace and prepare.
No, but you can end a war while still having troops in the country you've invaded. That's the only option the States has. They've created a power vacuum that needs to be filled, and if they pull everyone out than it's going to be filled by militants not politicians. The US has a military presence in 150 countries around the world, this wouldn't be the first time. The kool-aid drinkers are the people who supported the Republican party in the earlier 2000's, not Obama.
Also, you said so yourself Obama knew this was the situation we were in, we created a power vacuum... and he lied to the American people to get elected.
Where are all the war protesters now? This demonstrates that the liberals and progressives have no moral cause... everything is political. Just a way to get votes and attain power. Now Democrats are sucking up all of the special interests money, instead of the Republicans. Not much of a victory if you actually love this country.
The communist domino theory was the reason the US went to war in Vietnam. The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, Philippines , Indonesia , Malaysia , Singapore , and Thailand stayed free of Communism because of the U.S. commitment to Vietnam . The Indonesians threw the Soviets out in 1966 because of America 's comm itment in Vietnam .
Without that commitment, Communism would have swept all the way to the Malacca Straits that is south of Singapore and of great strategic importance to the free world.
What about the Gulf of Tonkin incident where Israel did a false flag operation and attacked the USS liberty, then blamed it on our "enemy" so we would go to war? The President told the commander of the fleet to stand down and let the USS Liberty sink. Our congressmen to this day will never shed light on this. All wars are for the international bankers. They always fund both sides of the war. Like the old saying goes, know history if you want to know the future.
Wow. You've lived on 4 different continents and speak 4 languages, therefore you know history? You've met people from all over the world, therefore you don't need to learn history? And the fact that I only speak one language (which you've correctly presumed) somehow limits my knowledge or rationalization of history? And then you call me "an angry white man"? You sound like a real intellectual amareto.
Oh, and if I only watch FoxNews, why am I commenting on a CBS video? And why am I subscribed?
I don't understand how am I going to call someone an enemy when I am the one who attacked him or her without harming me. America went to war in Vietnam because of their believes of communisim. is like my way or the hwy. Same as Iraq, again US attacked a country that never harmed any American in the history of mankind, and yet they are enemy. I am confused. Like they say, you can kill the person, but you can't kill the sprit of the person.
Are you kidding me? Go back and study your history a little closer regarding the war in Vietnam and maybe it will help you overcome your ignorant and simple minded analysis of the war in Iraq and your tying together of the circumstances and reasoning behind the two wars.
And any opposition force to a soldier in war is his "enemy." Get over it, there's nothing sinister there whatsoever.
And I'm glad these guys could come together after all this time. Just two soldiers serving their countries.
Wow!!!!. a F4 Phantom II in your backyard???

You did idiot. You asked it multiple times stemming from the Vietnam remark and then you wandered off into all types of erroneous subject areas.
"2 well known Presidents and respected express their feelings"
Yes, and you treated their remarks as if they were gospel. I explained why that is not the case and that plenty of scholars and other respected leaders take a completely different position on the matters.
Michael71186 2 years ago
"his approval rating is over 60%"
And what was Bush's at this point in his first term? Not to mention that Obama was UNDER 60% in recent polls.
"You know you told me to to study history and you don't even know what coup that I am talking about."
Because you are very vague and ambiguous. Why not just specify the coup? As illogical and revisionist as you've been, lord knows what kind of events you call "coups." If you are not referring to the 1953 coup than please specify.
Michael71186 2 years ago
If I tell the truth I am biased haa. Is that how it works? Jimmy Carter was in Gaza 2 days ago, and said that he is responsible as an American for what is happening to the Plestinian pple since the Israelians are using American bombs.
Obama, on his Cairo speech said that the US was behind the Iranian coup
.(Democratic elected Gov.) They both biased haa? You have to be man enough to admit your mistakes, eventhough I don't know what bathroom you use..Michael.
amareto35 2 years ago
"If I tell the truth I am biased haa"
The truth is clearly what's being debated here, chief.
And as for Jimmy Carter, I'm not aware of what he said the other day nor do I care. Jimmy Carter is irrelevant and does not speak on behalf of the US. He was one of our weakest presidents and was crushed by Reagan after his one term of failure. And as for Obama, I disagree with his ideology and policies as well. Being as he and I belong to differing political parties there's no real surprise there.
Michael71186 2 years ago
"Obama, on his Cairo speech said that the US was behind the Iranian coup"
What "coup" are you referring too? If it's the coup that installed the Shah than it has been common knowledge for quite sometime that the CIA had a hand in that, thus what's your point?
Clearly you have an agenda Amareto and your interests are not America's interests. So why should I care if you support America's foreign policy decisions or not considering you have no interest in seeing the U.S.'s interests furthered?
Michael71186 2 years ago
You got to be kidding me: Dick Cheney said repeatedly Mohamed Ata the master mind of 911 met with Saddam Husen right before 911. Where do you live Wyoming?
amareto35 2 years ago
I'm aware of what Dick Cheney said and it wasn't that Iraq was behind 9/11. You are making fallacious statements regarding the American position prior to the war either intentionally to further your agenda or unintentionally out of ignorance. And Mohammed Atta was not the mastermind behind 9/11 nor did Cheney claim that he was, Kaleid Shakh Mohammed was.
The Iraq War was a result of more aggressive foreign policy in the region following 9/11, not a direct correlation between Iraq and 9/11.
Michael71186 2 years ago
You want to put words in my mouth.
Nobody hates you Michael stop calling pple "ENEMIES"
amareto35 2 years ago
What words did I put in your mouth Amareto? I think you lack reading comprehension. Experience with multiple foreign languages doesn't improve one's natural abilities regarding reading comprehension now does it? No, it sure doesn't.
And more baseless presumptions supported with no facts.
And who did I call "enemies?" You falsely claimed that Americans viewed Iraqis as enemies, not I. I simply upheld the common notion that anyone who engages you in combat is your enemy.
Michael71186 2 years ago
Maybe one day you'll come to terms with your hatred for America and white people Amareto.
Until then, I would just try working on your ability to use reason. You sound like an absolute idiot.
Michael71186 2 years ago
I got under your skin didn't I angry white man? Now you really speaking a real angry white man who only speaks 1 language.
amareto35 2 years ago
Racist sentiment that again addresses none of the of the issues and displays your childish ignorance.
And another remark regarding foreign language...haha
Michael71186 2 years ago
It has to do with a lot of thing angry white man. I can watch the and listen the foreign TVs and radios, unlike you who only depend on one network. When it comes to foreign policy I guarantee you I am better than G.Bush who you voted for him twice. Whatever they need from me (State Dep.)I know they dying for someone like me. That's all....
amareto35 2 years ago
Juvenile banter which has nothing to do with the subject at hand and again demonstrates your immaturity and lack of knowledge.
Expected...
Michael71186 2 years ago
Do you know if you speak Arabic or Farisi you will make 120000 a year. You are not even going to work for a whole year, you basically working 9 months and 3 months off tax free, yes TAX FREE.. I hope you know what farisi is. So, I do have a lot of options in life thank god. That's the advantage of traveling around the world and speaking foreign languages. The state department are dying to have pple like me.
amareto35 2 years ago
What the shit does this have to with anything? Good fucking God man. You speak several languages, awesome!! That doesn't mean you are knowledgeable of the conditions and philosophy that brought America into the Vietnam War. In fact, you seem to be quite biased against the U.S. and uninformed, driven rather by anti-American interests.
And the state department may want you for translating and cultural analysis, but I guarantee you they don't want you for your opinions on foreign policy.
Michael71186 2 years ago
I rather see myself what is going on around the world instead of depending on catie Couric to tell me what is going on the streets of Cairo. It needs courage and confident. You think is easy to speak 4 different languages and see the world? Anyways you still running behind the bushs and you don't want to answer the question I asked you..remember what it was?
amareto35 2 years ago
You presume that people only get their knowledge from newscasters, that's your whole argument. You're pathetic. Would you like to say something intellectual or to support your claims or would you rather just continue making absurd accusations without actually engaging in the subject at hand?
"You think is easy to speak 4 different languages and see the world?"
When did I say such and what does that have to do with anything? Oh that's right, I didn't, and it doesn't.
Michael71186 2 years ago
you still running behind the bushs and you don't want to answer the question I asked you..remember what it was?
You are one delusional son of a bitch. Funny thing to say considering you havent spoken to anything on subject since your first post.
And hey Einstein, go back and read my comments and youll find that I did answer your question. You haven't substantively refuted a thing I've said, you just spout off non-sense about traveling the world and speaking foreign languages.
Michael71186 2 years ago
Michael you can't be serious on this, common. To this day I still remember, I was working the night US attacked Iraq. I remember the head of the security walked in to the cafeteria and said anybody excited, we are ataacking Iraq tonight, like the NBA finals. One of the managers loughed and said "oh yeah". I can't tell you right now, but 2 or 3 years ago a lot of pple thought Iraq was behind 911 including Dick Cheney. if i were you i would apologize instead of trying to win the argument.
amareto35 2 years ago
Still struggling to figure out the "reply" feature I see. Things get quite ambiguous when you don't use it. And as for you claims for Iraq, you're using an anecdotal instance as support for an unsubstantiated generalization that American's thought Iraq was it's enemy and this perception "got Bush elected twice." You haven't supported your claims whatsoever.
"a lot of pple thought Iraq was behind 911 including Dick Cheney"
Another falsity in your argument.
Michael71186 2 years ago

I am still waiting the answer from you though about the war in Vietnam.
amareto35 2 years ago
"The experience I got even Ivy League Schools can not offer"
This line of thinking is absurd. Yes, traveling abroad can broaden one's horizons and add culture and perspective, but it is nothing like a detailed academic study of history and international relations.Hand in hand they are quite complimentary but traveling itself is quite irrelevant in demonstrating the facts and circumstances of history. Just like speaking foreign languages is an erroneous factor, yet you seem unable to grasp this.
Michael71186 2 years ago
"Your first comment sounded like that the Vietnam war was legal."
Legal according to whom? Who is the global determinant of which wars are "legal?" I believe the war was justified in the context of the Cold War and in our own national interests, at least according to the perception at the time. If you don't take the Cold War into account when discussing the reasoning behind that war then you are either negligently uniformed or intellectually dishonest. It was a proxy war and a show of American
Michael71186 2 years ago
resolve to stand by our allies in the face of opposition and to resist the spread of communism.Maybe you are unfamiliar with the Domino Theory.
Michael71186 2 years ago

God bless america
meronmotors 10 months ago
@meronmotors You're so...wrong. While the Soviets weren't great, neither were we. How many people were murdered and oppressed in Latin America in the name of the American way? How many in Vietnam? Cambodia? Laos? Our intentions were as sick and perverted as the Soviets and their communism. The Vietnam War can never be justified. Additionally, atheism and theism has nothing to do with this. This is about political ideology.
DantehMan 7 months ago
@DantehMan Latin america I cannot say much about... I have read enough books to know we didnt play nice. However I still disagree with you in asia. Imagine a communist asia. Japan the only country who is not who lives in fear. When we removed her horns and took its guns. Then we let it get swallowed by the communists. No body would trust us again. Second Asia would be lost. Europe was half lost. Africa was heading towards communism and so was latin america. This is why we did it.
meronmotors 7 months ago
@DantehMan Of course the war industries start drooling when they see the tensions build but we could have had alot of better oppertunities for wars that produces revenue. Anyways we may not agree on the motives or the results but you and I should be happy that we can disagree. Swing over to north K and tell them americans kept them out of the south. That they are wrong. I dont think you would live long. I know my countries far from perfect but its much further from bad.
meronmotors 7 months ago
@meronmotors I still don't think the ends justify the means when it comes to Vietnam. I can understand involvement in the Korean War, as the Koreans were our allies and they were invaded, but Vietnam was hardly a point of contention. Vietnam was a game of landgrab that cost 58,000 American lives and countless more Vietnamese lives, and for what? We lost. The communists won in Vietnam, and now look at the place. It's fine. We do business with it even. It wasn't worth it at all.
DantehMan 7 months ago
@DantehMan I think it would be worth it if it if wedidnt walk away.First and foremost vietnam was a british colony. They couldnt deal with it they had bigger problems so we said we would handle it. Landgrab for who? We won in korea do we own Korea? Its a business partner. I would like to point out that EVERY comunist country that Iam aware of has killed many many of its own whether it be stalin in the ussr. polpot cambodia, kim korea, zedong. When Vietnam leaves communism we will hear about theirs

wow...are you kidding me? First of all, you haven't presented ANY "resume." You've claimed to have visited 15 countries and lived on 4 continents. Sorry buddy, that's not a resume. And it certainly doesn't signify that you understand politics or history. The very fact that you think it does and promote it as such is actually very damning for your credibility.

Oh, and FYI, maybe the reason I didn't respond to your comment is because I wasn't aware that you made one. a very beautiful story. they were just soldiers fulfilling their duty. they knew what it will be when they joined thus no matter what the reason behind was behind the war, they both served their countries well. being in military is already a suicide, especially if you're in airforce, you double the risks. i just hope that those who are in military right now would be that compassionate with his fellow mankind eventhough they are in opposite sides. serving ones country is heroic.

this guy never watched fox news, maybe cbs, nbc but def. not fox.
calireuss66 2 years ago
Both wars were started for the same reason... to keep the "military industrial complex" busy perfecting weapons. Wars are the best testing grounds for new weapons systems.
They can't determine the effectiveness of a weapon system until they unleash it in real circumstances against real people.
The military became a lot more effective at killing people after Vietnam... just as it is becoming better today in Iraq and Afghanistan.
fivestarmichael 2 years ago 2
Yep, and lets also look at who owns those war profeteering companies as well as their big share holders. Bush, Cheney, and the majority of Congress. People need to get involved in politics if they want any kind of change. Thank god for the internet. I love when people like you come in here and post the truth for others to see and hopefully get them involved in researching these things. They will be guaranteed to be led right to 9/11/2001 which was the last phoney event that brought us to war.
jsnip4 2 years ago
Don't forget Obama, Biden, Pelosi and friends who are also supporting the military industrial complex. Obama isn't getting out of Iraq any time soon and he sent 11,000 more troops to Afghanistan.
Our federal government is corrupt. People need to realize Obama is the new leader of the same bad government... a sugar coated version of Bush. Because they knew we would buy Obama's lies for a while and keep the machine moving.
fivestarmichael 2 years ago
Yep, you're absolutely right. There is no such thing as left or right or democrats or republicans. They are all on the same team. Sadly, the very few of us who understand this are severely outnumbered by those who are still fast asleep and have no clue. It's too late to stop what's coming now. All we can do is brace and prepare.
jsnip4 2 years ago
It's way too late to just pull out of Iraq. The opportunity for that it long gone.
Goldman3040 2 years ago
True,,, So Obama shouldn't have lied to the American people during the election promising he would get America out of Iraq.
I knew it wasn't possible, he knew it wasn't possible. However, Kool-aid drinkers all over America swallowed every lie.
Obama is a puppet of the DNC. A warm friendly, humanistic, well-spoken and charming mouth-piece for special interest groups controlling congress.
fivestarmichael 2 years ago
No, but you can end a war while still having troops in the country you've invaded. That's the only option the States has. They've created a power vacuum that needs to be filled, and if they pull everyone out than it's going to be filled by militants not politicians. The US has a military presence in 150 countries around the world, this wouldn't be the first time. The kool-aid drinkers are the people who supported the Republican party in the earlier 2000's, not Obama.
Goldman3040 2 years ago
You will defy all logic and reason to defend Obama. Why are you being intellectually dishonest?
Troops "In 150 countries Around the world" are not taking an active combat role. When has a U.S. troop had to fire on a German or Japanese citizen?
U.S. troops are still engaging the enemy in combat and they will be for years to come, Obama knew this and he lied.
I have been against the war since it's inception, but now it is Obama's war and you are okay with it? You make me sick.
fivestarmichael 2 years ago
Also, you said so yourself Obama knew this was the situation we were in, we created a power vacuum... and he lied to the American people to get elected.
Where are all the war protesters now? This demonstrates that the liberals and progressives have no moral cause... everything is political. Just a way to get votes and attain power. Now Democrats are sucking up all of the special interests money, instead of the Republicans. Not much of a victory if you actually love this country.
fivestarmichael 2 years ago
The communist domino theory was the reason the US went to war in Vietnam. The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, Philippines , Indonesia , Malaysia , Singapore , and Thailand stayed free of Communism because of the U.S. commitment to Vietnam . The Indonesians threw the Soviets out in 1966 because of America 's comm itment in Vietnam .
GiovannaNYC 2 years ago
Without that commitment, Communism would have swept all the way to the Malacca Straits that is south of Singapore and of great strategic importance to the free world.

What about the Gulf of Tonkin incident where Israel did a false flag operation and attacked the USS liberty, then blamed it on our "enemy" so we would go to war? The President told the commander of the fleet to stand down and let the USS Liberty sink. Our congressmen to this day will never shed light on this. All wars are for the international bankers. They always fund both sides of the war. Like the old saying goes, know history if you want to know the future.
jsnip4 2 years ago
Michael71186 2 years ago
I don't understand how am I going to call someone an enemy when I am the one who attacked him or her without harming me. America went to war in Vietnam because of their believes of communisim. is like my way or the hwy. Same as Iraq, again US attacked a country that never harmed any American in the history of mankind, and yet they are enemy. I am confused. Like they say, you can kill the person, but you can't kill the sprit of the person.
amareto35 2 years ago
Are you kidding me? Go back and study your history a little closer regarding the war in Vietnam and maybe it will help you overcome your ignorant and simple minded analysis of the war in Iraq and your tying together of the circumstances and reasoning behind the two wars.
And any opposition force to a soldier in war is his "enemy." Get over it, there's nothing sinister there whatsoever.
And I'm glad these guys could come together after all this time. Just two soldiers serving their countries.
