  • Hey Darrell,

I like your videos and your teaching style. However, in this case, I would like to differ with you on a few points:

    1) I'd mount it the other-way-round, with the spur drive pounded into the bark edge.

    2) I'd also suggest aligning it so the bark edge is perpendicular to the lathe

    3) Most important, I' always teach people to put the rest at 45 degrees, and cut arcs from foot towards rim for initial shaping. Beginners that try to bang away at those corners won't have much fun!

  • Is there any reason why you didnt round it out with a bandsaw refore mounting it

  • @Joe5225MLS27 Not really. I just did not need to because of the size of the lathe vs the blank.

  • All that just to give us the bird? lol

  • hmmm can you suggest a place for me to get one of fancy measuring devices??

  • @godlikemutant

I got mine from Mom and Dad years ago but I think they are all finished distribution :-)

  • i would have liked to see you do some turning of the bowl

  • Sure. Just follow the series on the natural edged bowl under more from DarrellSF They will take you through the process.

  • Thanks, I have one just like it on the other hand.
