@Samoriah Mozart couldn't compare to Bach's exploration of relational harmonies and intracacies, which is usually what music faculty is looking for in a music student's performance- these cello solos are usually just plain hard for brass players also- they require massive amounts of technical and mental discipline to perform effectively
Wow!!!! He really makes the music come alive. Such delicate yet sincere and certain articulation, complemented by great rubato and dynamics: this performance is a true work of art. Thanks for posting!!!!!
He really is quite fabulous. These videos are fantastic as a teaching/learning aid for anyone learning to play these suites because he plays them very well technically I would say while being able to maintain an aire of expresssion and individuality within the lines.
wow... completely flawless. im am at a lost of words for how much beauty there is. what bow control every different type of bowing could be pointed out with no question. Completely stunned
Yeah, most cellists start off using finger tapes though. I myself didn't remove them until my 3rd or 4th year. Once you've been playing for long enough, you can sort of just feel where everything is and if you do screw up, it is very easy to hear whether it's sharp or flat.
I have never been playing with marks and I'm kinda mad about that. I still (this is my 6 celloplaying year) screw up a lot when i'm changing from one position to another 'cause nobody have ever really told me where to put my fingers! gaaah. but I hope that I will overcome that problem some day, and iäm sure i will. practise, practise, practise
that's not entirely true. i played/ taught myself for a year. now i'm in the second orchestra at my school (which has one of the best music programs in the state), and this is only my second year playing. but hejgertrud, if you're really having issues, a LOT of orchestra teachers give fairly inexpensive lessons. and teahcers can work wonders in a very short time, just tell them what you want!
play your music to a tuner, go note by note for intonation for a few times and write fingerings on EVERY note out of first position. This will help you very much.
Even just being off ever so slightly would produce bad intonation. It's amazing you could be that accurate all the time without frets or markers or something.
This guy is such a badass.

Why do so many brass players play the cello suites? It's not like cellists are all eager to learn Mozart's horn concertos.
Samoriah 8 months ago
@Samoriah that's because Mozart ain't Bach :)

I like his hair, it makes me smile. Although the power of the music can quickly wipe that off of my face.

Somehow, some pieces of music manage to stop our sense of time; this is one amongst many others by J. S. Bach.

This is best interpretation in youtube. Actually all of Maisky interpreations of Bach's cello suites are the best really, in my opinion.
Cardien18 3 years ago 3
I have to agree. Not only is his sound phenomenal, but the musical interpretation is paramount. A lot to live up to in my recital...

you cannot play the cello without a teacher. there are a lot of technique tips you couldnt learn without someone who teach you.
