Don't get me wrong, I love the S&W 500, as well as practically any handgun that isn't Taurus. But the big cals are just big toys for big boys... unless you're going hunting in bear country, in which case you need one.
If you do hit someone with at 500 S&W I guarantee you it will go through them like butter and put a good 1 foot hole. You could be wearing 2 bullet proof vests, it does not matter. With around 2,800 ft/lbs compared to at 45 ACp with around 400 t/lbs your going through about anything.

Ok first of all it is a 500. Secondly it is pratical for defense. I'm a National Gaurdsmen Sniper 1st class and have carried every side arm known to man, and 45 ACP sucks, no range no penetration. 500 cal may be big, but not overkill and even the 9 x 19mm is far superior to the 45 ACP. Revolvers can carry a bigger cartridge than an AP as the round doesn't have to be in a grip. If you had a magazine large enough to hold some of the bullets a revolver can use there would be no way to put your hand around it. Unless your a big fucker like Shaq.

Nice 40 pound waste of money. Thanks to the 12" barrel with a 500 power rifle scope strapped to it the pistol is too heavy to hold high enough to shoot any farther than 10 feet. Were you shooting the full blown 700gr rounds out of it? Recoil and fire ball seemed a little tame.
Don't worry about those that are coming down on your scope. It's a matter of personal preference. Personnally I don't use scopes on pistols.
Either way these firearms are a blast to shoot.

Think of it as a very short rifle.
You can kill anything smaller than a bear upto 200yds easily (maybe more but your ability to aim makes all the difference...).
All that power and accuracy in a one handed package.

most powerful PRODUCTION pistol ever made. there is in fact alot of recoil; it looks like there is very little, because 1.) they all look like experienced shooters, 2.) the weight of the full size scope and 10 1/2" barrrel and shroud, and 3.) the compensator, which ejects gases up, down, and to the sides. if you watch carefully, you can still see alot of muzzle flip.

Revolvers can carry a bigger cartridge than an AP as the round doesn't have to be in a grip. If you had a magazine large enough to hold some of the bullets a revolver can use there would be no way to put your hand around it. Unless your a big fucker like Shaq.

in a semiautomatic pistol there are a lot of mechanism that in a revolver there arent.. there is lower possibility for jamming

average .50 AE load energy: about 1500 ft/lbs.
(6" barrel)
average .357 Magnum load energy: about 500-600 ft/lbs. (4" barrel)
do the math and figure it out for yourself.
point blank is NOT from up-close, unless oyu sight it that way. it is the range the sights are on target.

Nice 40 pound waste of money. Thanks to the 12" barrel with a 500 power rifle scope strapped to it the pistol is too heavy to hold high enough to shoot any farther than 10 feet. But then again they probably just bought this anchor because it makes a loud bang and they get attention when they shoot it.

It looks to me like he didn't expect it to fire. If you watch him the first time when he was doing a single shot you can see he had his finger against the trigger when he was pulling back the hammer... baaad idea. Wouldn't want to be standing next to him at the range.

I too buy guns because its fun to shoot. but when the gun weights 82 oz empty... and each shell weighs like 1-2oz it's hard enough holding the damn thing. it's great that they own the .500, unless you have to money to fund shooting it... its not exactly "fun" and is more of a bragging right w/ a sticker price of $1,500 and ammo than ranges from 20 a box on up. unless your bear hunting somewhere. that gun is pretty much useless....
