  • That being said, the 1999 HSV VT GTS R8, with the Calloway corvette 5.7 not the 5.0 stroked to 5.7, any ford fan could agree was a masterpiece, in 1999 was the worlds most powerful 4 door saloon and generated 300kws, it was/is a magic car. But like I said both companies make their good and shit cars, I'm just glad to see Aussie engineering showing what it can do to the rest of the world. FPV, HSV.... Keep making us proud!

The only thing Holden had going for it was its home built 5 litre, they should have developed that instead of going with the yank tank motor. That's why I'm a Ford fan now.

  • @trevorhendy123 understood, i am a Ford and Holden fan, as i feel both companies have made their greats and shit cars, i like more fords than holdens, being honest, i LOVE the new GT's with th 5.0lt supercharged "coyote" V8 and hate the VE series altogether no matter what series, the VT GTS was my LAST favorite holden, that being said, i hated the AU falcon also. i have just bought a Ford FG MKII XR6 ute, and i tell u.... its brilliant compared to the SV6

  • I'm not a ford or Holden fan, both have good and shit cars, however I think u would be mad to pay $90,000+ for ur top of the range, 317kw, HSV (PBR) Brakes, and basic options pack when u could have a $83,900 top of the range fully optioned FPV with 335kw, Brembo 6pot front 4 pot rear brakes.... Cheaper and better... It is purely because Australia is a Holden nation that HSV can produce something not as good yet ask too much, Holden fans should stop buying HSV so the price will come down and u w

  • Hmmmm, as for HSV only need 20 more kw? No, kws doesn't mean shit in applied power to the wheels, that is torque, and this car doesn't need to build to 5400rpm like HSV do to get peak torque, peak torque is available at 2200 rpm, so basically as soon as u plant the foot ur at full power whereas HSV u get the build to it, this car hands down has the better performance, GMH really do need to look at a better designed engine, not bigger just better, quad cam does have it's pros, even without super

  • I dont agree about the manual box... it is leaps and bounds better than the T56 in the BA/BF. The TR6060 I feel is precise and with the short throw between gears is great for "spirited" driving.

    The only down side to the car is that the tyres dont last long enough. I have to get new tyres for my GS very soon!

  • What a tremendous car. Shame we don't get it on our shores. That Miami V8 can really howl. I'm not going to insinuate for a second that it is as good or better than an E39 M5, but it's damn close, and that's damn good praise. I'd have such a hard time deciding between the Holden HSV and this...oh and don't knock the TR6060, agricultural as it is, it's one of the most reliable and sturdy gearboxes out there, and better than the T56 in the Commodore.

  • this engine is absolutely amazing, I am a jap man personally but I would own anything with one of these motors in it if I had the dosh. Absolutely brilliant piece of engineering.

    Absolutely smokes the LSx motors, sounds better and is a whole 1L less in capacity! Amazing!

    The HSV VE GTS gets 325kw from a 6.2L v8 NATURALLY ASPIRATED. you pop a supercharger on this like the walkinshaw VE GTS and it will shoot up to around 420+kw from what i remember. regardless of displacement, if the holden was 5.0L supercharged, it will still have more than 335kw. lol

  • I've always been a Holden/HSV fan but I tell you what.. FPV are really getting pretty lethal now. This one seems to be no exception. The only thing is the stripes down the side look horrible and ugly, it might have worked back in the 70's but it just looks ricey now.

    Numbnuts, these things have been coming out of the factory with around 370kw stock, you think 400kw is going to pop them? For longevity there is an industry standard 50% margin for capacity (it has to last 100,000klm), so based on that alone these things would start to break things at 500kw. Argue all you want, but you holden fanbois would be going nuts of this was yours and not fords.

What would be the point in tuning one of these to 500-600kw if it's gonna shake itself to bits in no time flat? 400kw is easily acheivable and might actually last for longer than a few seconds!   • @Fridgemusa BTW, I work in engineering and milling and know a little of what I'm talking about. If anything were to pop it would be head bolts which are easily replaced with studs. The bottom end on these things are seriously heavy duty and completely sorted. Ever revved your LS out to 7 grand and been able to tell the tale?

  • @blampa I've never revved an LS out to 7 grand because I have never owned one as I am a Ford man! All I'm trying to say is that some of the power figures people are posting on here are pretty over-zealous for stock internals if you want your GT-P to last at all!

I'm a Holden man too but you've got to love their ZF 6 spd gearbox...that thing is Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. The downsides are those old headlamps. HSV has alot more toys to play with.

  • yea im on aliasify's side, the ford is putting out 335kws with a supercharger and the holden is putting out 325kw with no supercharger.

    the holden r8 walkinshaw (supercharged) is puttin out 470kw. so get over the w427 cos the r8 walkinshaw spanks ur lil supercharged ford

  • @brazzr i just watched a video where it made 473 hp which is 355 kw (stock), the title is: Street Fords magazine: FPV BOSS 335 GT dyno video 1. look it up, its pretty well known now that ford has underrated the power levels on this car like it did with the GTHO back in the 70s

  • @brazzr Sorry for late reply, didnt see this earlier. Did you read my post earlier? People at Australian FordForums are getting closer to 335kws. Even if you watched a clip with 307kws at the wheels, if you do the math, thats only an 8% drivetrain loss. Commodores and Falcons lose about 15-20% from engine to wheel. So if a falcon is pushing about 307rwkw's that would equate to about 360-380kws at the engine anyway, i.e. way more than 335kws at the engine.

  • Im not an australian, so i can like both FPV and GT-P, and not make stupid comments and look at the facts. Fact is a supercharged FPV V8 which produces 335kw and 570nm of tourque, which is ok, but the ls3 may be a "push rod peice of shit" but it produces 317kw and 550nm before its even supercharged. The GTp isnt going to spank anything

  • @Aliasify Just to let you know, people are getting 320RWKW's at the dyno, and the highest I've heard someone get was 333RWKW's (fordforums australia)..... now if you know your calculations, Commodores/Falcons tend to lose 15-20% of power from the engine to the rear wheels.... that means the new FPV V8 engines are making anywhere from 370kws to 400kws... alot more than what HSV is currently offerring for the same price.

  • @Aliasify there maybe only a 20 kws and 20nms of tourqe difference but thats there peak outputs the big difference is that a ls3 hits its peak tourqe only for a couple of hundred rpm so it builds up then dies off the big difference is the ford gt makes peak tourqe at 2200rpm and holds peak tourqe till red line,it also been detuned so power increases of future models can be done through electronics while they spend development money on handling and creature comforts,

Love it !! the best time I got out of it with the G-Tech 0-100 was 4.45secs and I ran 12.6 1/4 mile at WSID its completely stock and an awesome car !! mate of mine has a W427 and the best time he could get was 4.78secs 0-100, I've driven a new GT-P and its an awesome awesome car, love the W427, but its got nothing on the new GT

I mean, the one thing that makes the European performance cars look unique on a night-lit highway is those bright white lights coming from it.. It's an easy replacement, and there's aftermarket manufactures for them now; but for $80k, I wish they put them in :(

    Other then that, I'm seriously thinking of trading in my FG XR6 Turbo for one of these - it sounds AMAZING.. that supercharge WHINE!!! *drools*

  • Great car. I think if anyone had 80k to spend and wanted an fpv or hsv, you'd be silly to choose the hsv. This car offers so much more bang for buck... But i really do like holdens touch screen features... Why cant fpv and hsv make a supercar together and call it the AUGT super car edition, blending the fpv engine with the hsv tech?!!! ( but steer clear of the hsv plastic fantastic look lol).

    Special edition mustang in USA uses the same engine and it makes 330kw, from a 5.0L not 6.2L like in the HSVs.

    Dont just look at peak power figures, the main story is the torque and in gear performance.... it blows the HSVs into the weeds.... this is real world performance.. regardless what peak power figures say

    sure.. not saying these new GTs aren't awesome, because they are (coming from a Holden man), they've got loads of power on tap but the HSVs still handle better, and the HSV is N/A and can just keep up with the new FPVs, so im saying if HSV now deicided to release a supercharged GTS, FPV will be behind again..

    currently it's supercharged V8 vs. N/A V8, and just because the HSV is a 6.2L as opposed to 5.0L, cubic inches aren't everything.
