though this does seem cool, I kind of worry about it changing the world too much.

What I suspect though is it will work kind of the same way as a cellphone plan. You can go a certain number of miles each month with the automated system and then after that if you want to drive any more that month you have to either pay extra or opperate the car yourself

it might be more effective if a few computers ran all the roadways and transmitted signals to all the cars. that way, cars could work together to create better traffic flow, and there wouldn't be cars in the way of mine trying to exit the interstate or something.

No, a much better thing, once all the cars are replaced with auto driving cars, police will no longer have a job except to be doing the only thing police should be doing already, drug busts, and maintaining society.

We have cameras around the major road areas that should be handing out tickets, and speed limits need to be dynamic for traffic instead of static.

Well if they legalize pot, then all police officers will have a hard time finding things to do. They will still have to deal with robberies, and serious drug trafficking, but that doesn't make them money like pulling people over near the end of the month does.

I don't know, perhaps they wouldn't want to be one of the tens of thousands of people who die on roads every year, or maybe autonomous vehicles will eliminate traffic jams. The real question is why wouldn't you want that vehicle.

Well cell phones used to cost $1,500 and you didn't need them, you could always just walk to a pay phone. 10 years later cell phones are cheap, and very few choose to function without them.

It will probably happen, and people will probably die, but it will far less common occurrence than crashes caused by human drivers. Such errors will also be fixed so they don't cause accidents anymore, whereas human drivers will continue to repeat the same accident causing behaviors over and over again. In the end perhaps a few hundred people will lose their lives as automated driving is perfected vs the tens of thousands which currently die every year.

I have eye problems and do not dare to drive because I am afraid that I will cause an accident due to my eye condition. I can see everything on the road well but will never be able to live with the guilt for the selfish actions on my part if I really cause an accident.

I really hope that these self driving cars will soon be avaliable to visually handicapped people like me. It will make my life so much better.
