Noah's real name is 'Lutz', and he is called Lutz in later games as well.

The US/Pal versions screwed it up by having 'Noah' be female, its even in the manual. :P

I really REALLY wish they could find a way to translate this and release it with English text!

Yup. Level everyone up to level 30 except Myau, and give the other three a short sword/woodcane/wand, and he will have higher attack power than Alis and Odin.

Not really, or at least not in the original 8-bit version. Some end game mobs 1-shotting him at full hp, like White Dragons. And Odin does 4-5x more damage on single targets with "Help" cast on him, slightly lower damage with the laser gun, compared to "Thunder", but the gun doesn't run out of MP after 5-6 casts. :p

Lutz definitely looks male in this version, I think the source of the confusion was a possible translation error in the US version of Phantasy Star when the Governor tells you to give a letter to Noah, saying 'I will give you a letter of introduction to present to her'

The "her" was a translation error. This is verified by the fact that, when Sega reprogrammed the game for the GBA (PS Collection), they used the original SoA script but changed that line to "...to present to HIM."

Blame sloppy translators in the '80s for that one. But then, that was the order of the day... get the games localized as quickly and cheaply as possible once OK'd for the US market.

I hear ya neofallen. Lutz sama is my hero! He is my favorite character in Phantasy Star. Also, in the original Phantasy Star, he has more attack power than Alis(a)and Tyrone(Odin). You just can't notice because he has a weak weapon while Alis and Tyrone have swords and axes.
