FOD is always a possibility, but look at the 737 and how Boeing made it work. The Aerostar crowd is pretty savvy, and I think they'll figure this one out. I like this design because it's the next logical step, bypassing the smaller turboprops because none can really make this kind of performance jump. Bravo to the Aerostar Aviaton staff and crew!!!!
This new second life for the original Ted Smith AeroStar my dear sir, Kicks Ass! What an elegant aircraft!.... and now going faster and higher will finally put it up in the league it deserves. Congratulations!
This is one of the finest twin engine GA aircraft ever built. This aircraft design was ahead of its time, over-built by the designer knowing full well the design would out live him and would still be around to be re-engined with fan jets as above. I hope they can get it back into production someday.
I've always like these, even if I don't think they're the best looking. The big windows, the mid-mounted wing, the well known overall strength ... now with extra everything! I hope they're still in business by the time I can afford one!
Its about freaking time. For those that don't know, this aircraft has been in the drawing board since the 60s. In fact, the original designer wanted to make the jet aerostar but couldn't find suitable power plants and decided to put piston engines. It turned out to be the fastest normally aspirated piston twin in history (still holds that record) and that is because of its intention to be a jet. As far as looks, Its almost like a tiny airliner.
The Jet Aerostar was originally thought of by Ted Smith Aircraft (the makers of the original Aerostar), but was never built. I can't remember which year it was, but the Jet Aerostar design did appear in the Jane's All the World's Aircraft (I think in the 1976-77 edition). It's good to see that it was at last built, and that it works!
yes, in fact he never intended to make the piston version, he just couldn't find the right jet engine at the time, at least from what I understand. Ted Smith, in my opinion, is the best GA aircraft designer that ever lived.
Like the guy said, its lighter and more powerful than the piston version. Technically it should be off the ground in less than 2,000ft since that is the ground roll of the piston version.
I thought of the Me292 when I saw this. Looks like a neat aircraft, with those little engines. I bet it gives a pretty different feel sound wise in the cabin compared to the piston version.

From what I can see, this aircaft seems like a mini-737.

I love the look of this aircraft. Much more aesthetically pleasing than the piston version.

I always liked the Aerostar and hope this makes it. Still, I'd be nervous about FOD ingestion with those low-slung engines.

2.4 million sounds very reasonable considering the other planes in that price range, now if only I could win the lottery...

very interesting... but how can you pressurize for high altitude with those big square windows?

it's cool to see such a small plane with the engines mounted under the wing instead of on the tail
