I guess it's an effect of the quality of the communications but it sounds like the person on the space station sounds like he's... gasping? for air a lot of the time? It might be the way he speaks, though.

The Astronaut's microphones/headsets are voice activated and cut out every time they pause and activate when speech is detected. The guy on the ground(Bleep either side of transmission)has to push a button to operate his mic.
