@tarnishedreality I wouldn't even consider CM a protest. I'd think more of it as a celebration of cyclists! I caught a twinkie a motorist threw at me once and ate it on the spot. I passed the car two blocks later and thanked them for the snack. The two people in the car were probably 250lbs+ each.
bunch of followers, sheep, think for yourself, lead yourself, don't follow other people, chant what they tell you to chant......and act like a hipster

Before cars were made cheap by henry ford cars were made for people to enjoy the open air freedom of dirving. cars became sources of our troubles because people are abusing them and not using them for their purpose:fun. Bikes were made for cheap and effcient transportation, so let's keep it that way. stop driving everywhere, save them for an afternoon cruise. After all, gas is 4 bucks a gallon, use your bikes more often.
It's like back in the '50s African-Americans tried to physically attack the KKK...they were like roaches (The KKK I mean) and didn't die no matter what. But once African-Americans decided to take the legal route, things got far better for them.
Roads are made for cars. Trails are made for bikes. Keep it that way, its simpler and easier. If you want to protest, do it in a park or something that isn't made to have traffic traverse it. If you protest in the streets, all you're going to do is piss off the people you're protesting against and seeing as how they drive four ton vehicles, it's probably not a good idea to do that. Go fail somewhere else.
we protest because we're tired of people almost killing us by almost hitting us with their cars when we have every right to the road that they do. gas is $4.00 a gallon. ride a bike.
I used to be a truck driver and I once got stuck in one of these critical mass protests. They blocked a road and held their bikes up in the air. I was late for my delivery and ended up having to wait overnight until the next morning. Eventually the police came and we all enjoyed watching the police taser and billyclub them.
For god sakes. No one has ever stopped anyone from riding a bike. The whole reason the cops are there is because the idiot cyclists kept blocking the street so it was impassable by emergency personnel and citizens alike. No more talking hippie.
I have angry drivers honking and swerving at me every day in an effort to intimidate me off the road. Why do some many people do this? What is it about the sight of someone going to work on a bike make some people foam at the mouth? Why is someone who rides a "hippy"? Why do people watch Fox News? I dont know.
It's not the fact that you're riding. It's the fact that you're protesting the use of vehicles. Hippies riding bikes is a stereo-type, and while sterro-types are usually very rude, 99.9% of them are true. Think about that and it will make sense. Go fail somewhere else hippy.
Oh Jeez. No one has ever said you don't have a right to ride. And I really do understand that in many places the law says you can't ride on the sidewalk. But, if you are going to ride in the street you have to follow the same traffic laws as everyone else. No running stop signs, signal your turns, no obstructing traffic (if I drive 5 mph I get a ticket). No one I know has a problem with lawful riding. But many people have problems with idiot riding as well as idiot driving. Just be cool.
Oh man! These guys are real idiots. I work in downtown Mpls. These wannabe hippies ride around blocking transit, pedestrians and cars. They don't really care about promoting alternative transportation. They don't care who they run down on their bikes. They want to feel that they're making some kind of stand against the mainstream, but they're not really radicals. They just like to pretend they are.
Imagine if all the people that are avid cyclists in Minneapolis-or in the country, decided to drive a car everywhere, how much worse the traffic situation would be on freeways (35W), residential areas, etc. I don't think most people realize just how many people don't drive , and do not for many reasons. Critical Mass is supposed to be a peaceful demonstration of citizen rights-an assembly if you will. Some people do though, take the advantage to act like an idiot.
Yes, jhusby, I take plenty of safety precautions when riding my bike, to include a helmet, tail-lights, headlights, reflectors, horns, bells, reflective clothing.
For safety reasons, I also carry my bike lock, edge weapons, and when the aggressors come to fuck with me, I will also have my guns ready to neutralize their threats. I take plenty of 'precautions.'
none of these idiots have helmets. I think i see two out of thirty. They argue that the streets are too dangerous, they obviously dont htink so if they are not wearing helmets
Cyclists shouldn't have to be wearing helmets. In many Northern European countries their cycling infrastructure is so well done that people feel safe without helmets; but not here.
It is pretty depressing that fat Americans would rather ride 2 miles down the road to blockbuster in their SUVs instead of riding a bike.
bayboy, no. My truck wont fit on the site walks or inbetween the curb and white line.... wait your bike can! If you think its so dangerous for your kids to be riding their bikes to schoool, they have invented this thing, its called a school bus. Its big and yellow and has about 49 seats in it. And if you dont have one of thoes, the city hace this thing called a metro transit bus! Its big and white and can hold many people! weird i know huh
It's unsafe to ride my bike on the crowded sidewalks of my city.
Also, there are no school buses in most California cities here, ever get in a traffic jam around a Cal. elementary school? I don't, but the drivers do. This is one of reasons why the car culture is so big here. In any event, my kids and I live 1 mile from school, it's a short trip, perfect for bikes.

Wow...It's deja vu i.e. the 60's radical paradigm. It had more support in the 60's than today. I think most folks see through the "It's my right" and "freedon of assembly" twisted to meet their view of freedon... Self-righteousness or "useful idiots"?
What I love about critical mass is that people actually believe that it helps the cyclists cause. As a cyclist in Minneapolis I have two words for everyone who participles in Critical Mass
"Fuck You"
All you are doing is making drivers more angry at cyclist, and subsequently making the streets more dangerous for cyclist. Just stop, please.
I live in a city without a Critical Mass ride and I have to say I still get treated like shit. Roadies run just as many stop signs/lights and ride around two abreast. They also do it every weekend instead of every month.
At least the CM seem to want better infrastructure; from what I have seen roadies don't seem to give a shit about getting cycling infrastructure that will get the populous out on bicycles.
I bike, and drive a car. I have sympathy for the bikes, but holy fuck: CRITICAL MASS is so idiotic. At least in Minneapolis, where most of the riders are elitist fucking snobs. Police brutality isn't cool, and all I can say is: just scram, and get the hell out. So many people lipped back to the cops, and got in trouble for it. If you're going to fuck with the cops, you better start a revolution, not a war. I hope everyone is ok, and no one was seriously harmed.
They should have arrested anyone blocking the sidewalks that are for pedestrians and anyone not obeying traffic laws. NOT your street is everyones streett and it works fine when you obey the laws. Grow and buy a car, I'm cold!
Actually, you thought wrong. In most states it is illegal to ride on the sidewalk. The law mandates we ride on the street. At least try to educate yourself a little before running off at the mouth.
And remember in many states, if you threaten me with bodily injury, including running me down with a car like a coward, I have the right to pull out my gun and blow your cowardly butt away!
I hate hippies. Police brutality my ass. What i see is a bunch of idiots blocking an intersection, messing up the flow of traffic whom are just looking for trouble. The cop puts his hand on the guy, he pushes away and tries to run. Then the cop brings him down and then other idiot hippies join in the fight. I'm all for the right to assemble, but under conditions where you don't mess with other people like blocking traffic.
i break the law all the time. so do you. stop threatening to kill me with your car. please. you are the reason why bicyclists hate drivers, just so you know.
It is illegal to bike on the sidewalk, the streets are for cars AND bikes. if you step on that pedal, I'll see you are arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
It definitely looks like resisting arrest to me. Oh well, I'm sure that next month they'll be more baiting of police by self-annointed bike-radicals and moron-anarchists. Some people love the feeling of belonging to a mob.
That's right. The poor police are always being threatened by the citizens. Damn those pesky people and their "right of assembly and free speech." Why can't they mindlessly follow the rules like everybody else!
nice "suspicion of rioting" charge according to the kare11 video report....sounds like bullshit.
thats almost like cops stoping me for walking in front of a store for "suspicion of attempted robbery" lol
sounds like shame, that the police want to interfere in this when they KNOW it will happen EVERY month...............its like they are instigating the situation, when they can just prepare and anticipate the event.

Its just a bunch on anarchists causing problems. Anarchists are the 'cockroach of society' and as such they should be stomped, sprayed, and beaten into oblivion.
they dont take up one lane, these people are idiots! i have been behind them on more than one occassion unfortunately. i was on a 3 lane, and there must have been 500-1000 bikes and they take up 3 lanes for 6 blocks, and go extremely slow, causing traffic to back up a long ways
Here's the point. People who ride bikes are threatened with bodily harm on a daily basis by people in large vehicles who, because they have those large vehicles, who have little regard for other non-auto commuters. The inconvenience of a few hours is meant to highlight the frustration of the bike commuter.
I have no problem with people commuting by bike, but the people that ride alone and ride right down the middle of the lane like they are a car? thats a bit too much. whether you are a car, a bike or a walker, you need to show the same respect! I think walkers are worse than bikers, they just walk across the intersection and dont even look most of the time!
i'll give respect when i get it. and brushing past me with less than a foot of space, which is what happens when we DON'T take the lane, is the opposite of respect. i don't care if you hate me. i don't care if i'm "inconveniencing" you. yeah right. that's bullshit. most drivers are inconsiderate and ignorant and have no idea how much harm and danger they cause. if i need to be assertive to be safe, then so be it.
you people are fricking rediculous! you dont GET respect, you EARN it. havent you heard of the old fashioned way? everyone needs to be careful, biking, walking or driving, but you dont need to add fuel to the fire! sooner or later though as I have stated, you are going to get someone who goes all road rage on your ass, and thats going to be it for about 20 of you! do not be foolish and think you can control everything!
that's exactly what i am saying. when people in cars stop intimidating me and threatening me for no reason, i will offer my respect. i am a safe, considerate bicyclist, yet this shit happens EVRERY DAY. riding in the lane is the safe choice. should i ride in the gutter, where no one can see me, or where they can squeeze past me with inches to spare. ride a bike for a week and talk to me about respect on the road.
Woldy - bikers ride near the middle of the lane to keep cars from passing them so closely that it becomes dangerous. If there was enough room on the shoulder for them to ride and for cars to pass by then bikers will do so. In minnesota (where this happened) the rule is 3 feet must be kept at all times between a car and bike (this rarely happens when there is not a massive shoulder)
I guess they do this one day a month, take up one lane of traffic on one street with as many bicyclists as they can. Drives the cops furious. If it were a motor cycle rally you wouldn't see this kind of insanity. We have traffic jams with cars, why not a bike jam.
I thought they were yelling out "Grus Dich!". That's like what's up in German. I thought it was a german solidarity bike rally or something, until the pepper spray went flying. one of em put a tazer to my back, because I just happen to bike to work. The cop didn't zap me, but he could have said back off before he put the bug zapper on me. guilty by association I guess.
It is due to the number of people. There are several cities now where it is illegal to have more than X number of people riding a bike. You know.. freedom to assemble. The CONSTITUTION.
Seems pretty clear to me. Listen, "we're not hurting anyone," "what's the charge?" See, this is what happens when people stand up for themselves and resist the Police State. Better get used to it.
Well it does warm the heart to see people stand up for what they believe in, even if we don't' know what the hell is going on exactly. This is our Country, if we stand up together we can achieve anything.
This video is not informative without more information about what happened. 'Cops behaving badly' does not suffice. Please give a better description or news URLs.

Mass traffic law breaking, and then crying if anyone tries to tell them to GTFO.
While CM may have been started with good intentions, all they do is give most bikers a bad image.

you people are fricking rediculous! you dont GET respect, you EARN it. havent you heard of the old fashioned way? everyone needs to be careful, biking, walking or driving, but you dont need to add fuel to the fire! sooner or later though as I have stated, you are going to get someone who goes all road rage on your ass, and thats going to be it for about 20 of you! do not be foolish and think you can control everything!

that's exactly what i am saying. when people in cars stop intimidating me and threatening me for no reason, i will offer my respect. i am a safe, considerate bicyclist, yet this shit happens EVRERY DAY. riding in the lane is the safe choice. should i ride in the gutter, where no one can see me, or where they can squeeze past me with inches to spare. ride a bike for a week and talk to me about respect on the road.

It's not clear what it's about, if anything. It causes inconvenience to a lot of people. That seems to be the only point.

What did the first bicyclist do to get arrested?
SkiUMah 4 years ago

Thank you, hence the Ron Paul tag.

Seems pretty clear to me. Listen, "we're not hurting anyone," "what's the charge?" See, this is what happens when people stand up for themselves and resist the Police State. Better get used to it.

Watch the "Health Inspector" vid on you tube and breakdotcom. Police state for sure.

No kidding, I'm really interested to know what the hell this is all about, but this video tells us nothing, not even a link to more information.

Well it does warm the heart to see people stand up for what they believe in, even if we don't' know what the hell is going on exactly. This is our Country, if we stand up together we can achieve anything.

More info about this please. I don't even know what's going on here.

This video is not informative without more information about what happened. 'Cops behaving badly' does not suffice. Please give a better description or news URLs.
Thanks
