  • this song and "Booted" were recorded at the Memphis Recording Service studio and produced by Sam Phillips, this was before Phillips started Sun Records

  • Wow. Thanks for the additional info. Really appreciate it. Cheers, buddy.

  • @laceup1967 Yo. Nice him!!! I remember Gordon record this him for Coxsone Down beat.

  • @lakumina wooo!

  • Great record...and I really like that turntable!!!

  • It's a LENCO with four speeds 12-33-45-78 which u can use like as a pitch, if got two and they still workin fine.

  • It's a LENCO player with four speeds 12-33-45-78 which u can use as a pitch, I've got two and they still do a great job.

  • There are a lot of songs that influenced the birth of ska, rocksteady & reggae. This song is obviously one of them. I could cite my top five:

Fats Domino - Be My Guest

Roscoe Gordon - No More Doggin

    Billy Stewart Billy's Heartache

Chris Kenner - Sick & Tired

    Dave Bartholomew - The Monkey

Everybody knows this song isn't ska, but the guitar shuffle sounds like that.

    Thanks for posting!!!

  • @brincher maximum respect man 4 the list!

  • ska? sounds more like blues, sometimes, and sometimes like rock & roll

  • Guys are giving this guy credit for inventing reggae? This isn't ska and it ain't reggea, it's on beat not off beat, but I see the connection, however, he isn't even the first to do a beat like this, no way , no how, Blind Wille Mctell did it long before, as did Robert Johnson.

  • @nickothompson how is that piano not on the offbeat?

  • grandeee!!

  • Anyone know who plays sax during the break. It appears there is a tenor break followed by a baritone solo. Could the bari solo be Leo Parker ? Very curious.

  • im 17 and i have to admit i like this better than an ipod... all you do is click a bunch of things to get your music but this way you just seem so much more involved its really neat. :P

  • Getcha some vinyl!

  • you got that totally right

  • This turntable kinda sped this up. I still find it equally good. His voice just sounds... I dunno, younger.

  • Actually, the turntable is calibrated at 78rpm and running at correct speed. I think the problem lies with youtube

  • u know i hafta say I never heard this guy b4. was live streamin b4 & heard him on allmemphismusic & came here, 4 sure he'd be here. Amazin music thnx 4 all info 2

  • Cant find ..Thats what you do to me... by Rosco Gordon can you help.

    Rex Snoukry

  • Very nice sound!

  • Much faster than the original 78. Slower is better for that peculiar shuffle.

  • you have to listen the groundhogs version!

  • Can i buy that turntable?

    what make is it?

  • This is a variable speed Lenco. It's Swiss-made, direct drive and long time out of production. Early 1970s. I bought it at a vintage audio store for about $250 Can. Check eBay. The shipping will be a lot because these turntables are very heavy.

  • i'm trying to find a song from him that i don't know the name of. he was mentioning getting a knife and killing the guy that has his wife. if you cuold help me out, i'd greatly appreciate it

  • the song is called "Booted" from 1951 and came out on Chess Records outta Chicago.

    a cuckold masterpiece!

  • thanks, I appreciate it. I've been trying to find it on the computer but not luck :/

  • you should take into account and offset your DC power with an appropriate converter as European equipment will reproduce recordings at an inaccurate speed due to the slight voltage difference.

  • Go for a Dual 3-speed turntable and equip it with a 78 rpm stylus, it accurately reads the specific cut groove for maximum playback on a decent audiophile system. The difference between this and a regular stereo stylus is like night and day. The 78 stylus actually has the artist out of your speakers and performing right in the room for you. Dual turntables are found discarded in L.A. thrift stores from $5 to $25. Also try Audio Specialists in Studio City, California, ask for Howard.

  • it'is the first ska of the human history

  • I am glad 78's and other records aren't dead. Just semi-retired!! Thanks!!

  • John Lee Hooker did a cool version of this too.

  • Hey. Thanks for the info. If you have any more on any of my discs pass them on. BTW, WTF is with the name, dude?
