  • Almost cannot listen to this song given how perfectly it conveys love. It does me. Every single time.

  • This is my favourite Elbow track. I have to listen to it on my own though, no-one likes to see a grown man cry...

  • Currently 150 likes and 1 dislikes. I may be over reacting but who the f*ck dislikes this song. Moron!!!

  • What at beautiful song, makes me cry every time!

Hope lots of people out there get into ELBOW!!!!!

    Cheers, Y

  • Thanks so much for posting. Saw them play in Glasgow a couple of months ago. I swear it's the best live gig I've ever been to. Guy Garvey is so charismatic...and he has the audience in the palm of his hand right from the first note.

  • This song does me in..in a good way. The music the lyrics <3

  • A sodium light, turning silver to gold.

One of the best lyrics ever.

  • This has to be the most beautiful song of all time.

  • You'd never guess Guy was smothered with a flu that night. What a voice!

  • the best band.Simple like that.

  • Lucky enough to sing on the upcoming Elbow album, and have performed this track live with them. Great, great musicians and lovely guys, and this song is just beautiful. Build a Rocket Boys!

  • I'd say, one of the best bands in the world right now. Guy's definitely got the best voice of any front man out there. They just have this knack of producing songs that make you cry. One of their best songs as well, although Mirrorball is my favourite.

  • I hope I get to see them live... they're sooo good live. I'm in Ohio, though, so I might have to go out of state.

  • @uiop60 More like out of country mate! How about the National Indoor Arena Birmingham (UK not Alabama) on 22nd March 2011. Saw today that they are playing there.

  • @Cloonfour I'm relatively certain they'll be touring the US after the March UK tour... if not for a great deal of money then for the satisfaction of the few good fans they've got here.

  • I'm not surprised there are zero dislikes! How could anyone in their right mind not like this?!

  • So well performed that it sounds like a playback. I love this band!

  • I love elbow so much.

    They look like van drivers.

  • fuckin brilliant.........best band in the world at the moment

  • Best Elbow song ever, still brings me to tears.

  • omg.. The last verse gets me all the time, pure emotion

  • who's hte guy introducing at the beginning? it looks like a young steve lamacq!

    incredible track, so beautiful.

  • most amazing song by the most extraordinary band of my lifetime.

  • wonderful

  • i still cannot get over how incredibly beautiful this song is

it is CRIMINAL how underrated this band are

on the otherhand at least it stops them gettin destroyed by popularity i guess

    <3

  • stunning and tender. Big hearted men of the people. Nobody does it like Elbow.

  • It just shows the real talent of the group. They can play different tempo songs and they do them all well. One of my favorites.

  • Magnificent! ... as they are always!

  • I realize that this is a gorgeous song, but the most beautiful Elbow track? I think that honor goes to A Friend of Ours due to the personal nature of the song. This is still a heartbreakingly beautiful song though.

  • Great Expectations IS THE most beautiful Elbow track. It makes me tear up when I listen to it..

  • agreed

  • I only discovered Elbow through the acclaim Seldon Seen Kid got for them, but i've bought their other albums now and this is just truly beautiful. I agree with the comment said earlier. How can a song like this not have gained them status? Truly beautiful song in my opinion.

  • Love this song and this band

  • I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!

Does anyone know the block chords? I've tried to play it by ear but it's not the same :|

    Ahh.

I love Elbow. Absolutely beautiful :')

  • i know how to play it but i'm not that big on how to write it down cos its a plucking pattern and I'm not musically trained. I can write it as a tab for you.

  • Does listening to this make anyone else feel like half of their self is going completely numb, whilst the other half is screaming? Or is the fact that I feel my heart just broke severely affecting my brain?

  • I rate the singer so much. He's so good live. I sang this for my mate's music tech recording and it was so difficult to do it well. Props to Guy Garvey

  • dog shit? i'm sorry ... what exactly are you into ...?you illiterate pleb? I doubt you would know love from the casual tussle you poke every saturday night .Go away and gain another STD ...listen to Your cod shit music and produce more little asbo's for our justice system to jail...

  • @michaeldavidnolan you pathetic narrow minded twat

  • why a song like this can't propel a band to god status I'll never know . An awesome vocal, measured, beautiful, heartfelt, wells up emotion. Leaders of the free world is an awesome album

  • the last line: "know i'll always wait". he is a fuckn poet that garvey, a fuckn poet.

  • This song always reminds me of "Wind and Wuthering" or "A Trick of the Tail" era of Genesis.

  • Genesis and Elbow are great. I think Genesis use a lot more synthesizers though.

  • yep Stockport supporterss the best bit

  • Stunning.

  • this song makes me cry. im not too sure why. beautiful song.

  • This song is perfect. Defs the best song they've ever written. Delicate and heartbreaking.

  • Stockport supporters club kindly provided a choir

    Fantastic

  • one of my fav of all time...

  • this song got me through my gcse's

  • This song has made my night

  • This is the greatest song they have written. Name me a more beautiful song?

OK, maybe Powder Blue, Scattered black and white, Switching Off, Grace under pressure, The Stops, My very Best etc.....

Time this band got the exposure they deserve.

  • Mr Garvey agrees with you ,he said at the Q the music gig in Covent garden 'this is the best song we've ever written' before playing the best performance i've ever seen.

  • it is about real love. You were right.

  • I realise this song isn't actually about marriage but I felt it was written about two people having some kind of realisation of how in love they were at that random moment. However my boyfriend called me 'naive' by claiming that the song is about falling for a random girl on a single bus journey. He's probably right but it's such a beautiful song, I want to believe its about something far deeper - real love!! Anybody else have any ideas so I don't feel so crushed?!

  • It's clearly about a marriage of love, versus a religous marriage. Marriage is a lifelong commitment "I love you I always will". It's relating to a current relationship "Call on you I'll call on you

    Like I used to".

  • That's exactly what I thought - and I used those lines to try and disprove the boyfriends theory. Thanks for your confirmation, don't feel so 'naive' anymore.

  • I am such a sucker for this song! It's wonderfully melancholic.

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, I love listening to it!

  • love it love it love it.........

  • man alive!i cant stop listening to this song,i think its about time these guys got the credit they deserve.there is not many bands who can just keep writing songs like this and newborn and mirrorball etc etc.....

  • I'm just in the process of discovering them (better late than never) & this is really beautiful... I'm off out to buy all their albums.

  • What a band! Nicely done just simple!

  • absolutely breathtaking in its sheer beauty

    steve cape town

  • Lovely tune. I have to work on Saturday or I would be at Webster Hall (NYC) too. I believe the bass in this video is an Epiphone Jack Cassidy model, Gavin from Camera Obscura has one too.

  • Amazing! I'm seeing them for the 1st time this Saturday in NYC!!! I cannot wait!

  • Thought the gig last night was bloody brilliant - his voice is so great live (just as good as on the CDs). Highlights for me were Newborn and One Day Like This. Great Expectations was good too, but spoiled for me by some arsehole having a natter with his mate right beside me - you know the kind of idiot: stands with his back to the stage and talks in a loud voice during the quiet numbers. Just stay in the pub pal, do us all a favour. BUT... apart from that, really excellent gig.

  • Aye, i was at the glasgow ACB gig last night aswell, check out my page for a few vids from the gig.

  • Seeing them in Glasgow tomorrow night... this is my favourite song from Leaders (hope so much they play it!)

  • I also went last night and they did play this. Fantastic song, gives me shivers!!!

  • Does anyone know what make that Bass is please? 1:23

  • i think it might be an EPIPHONE... in another elbow vid, he was playing it and it had the Epiphone "E" on the scratchplate, but i cant see it here??!!

  • It's an Epiphone Jack Casady Signature model - A bloody great bass, I own one, really old school sounding

  • oh my god. what a song. goose pimples, what lyrics

    steve cape town

  • You have good taste my friend.

  • was this on other voices?

  • Yep

  • Absolutely brilliant music, loving all these live Elbow clips now on youtube.

Can't wait for them to return to Australia.

  • .......... they are THAT good?

  • Hairs on the back of my neck standing to attention, cant wait for Vicar St

  • All time favourite, thank you for adding this

  • Absolutely ace, makes me cry every time, in a good way of course.

  • what a band watched grounds for divorce on jon ross this morning superb

  • Thank you for posting this! It's gorgeous. I'm praying they grace the States wth their presence on the tour this time. If I could marry a band, I'd marry Elbow...

  • My pleasure. Much as I love Elbow, I'm a happily married man so they are all yours...

  • Jesus christ. That's beautiful!

    I could watch that forever.

  • Me too. Glad you like.
