Man that thing was at 2.3 as soon as I started paddling. I could easily hit 5.7-6.0 MPH. That was hard to sustain and with no current but not a problem.
I don't think I would pay the extra dollars for the two feet. Depends on where you are going to yak. I have gone out on the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan and the yak handled all she threw at me.
I see, also one other question I'll throw at you. If you had the opportunity to get the Trident 15 instead of the Trident 13 that you have now, would you have gone with the two extra feet? I don't know the specific differences between the 13 and 15 but, I'm thinking the two extra feet isn't worth the extra cost. Let me know what you think.
I may put up a tutorial on how and how far down I have my ducer mounted. The only reason it is in that position is that the unit has down imaging. I know lowrance has developed a scupper mount for their structurescan and would think Humminbird with follow suit. For now, the ducer has to be in the water becuase of the down imaging capability.
You will be very happy with the yak when you get one. My buddy has a nice Bimini 15 and is also selling his after using mine. The Bimini and the Ascend are great yaks but the Trident is really great. I had to move the ducer down a bit from the original mounting position because it was not in the water all the way. Now it works great!!!! Just make sure it is down far enough because that keel remains very high in the water. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I'm selling my ascend FS10 to get a trident 13. I was curious as to how well your sonar worked the way the transducer was mounted. I would have thought maybe because it was up higher than the bottom of your keel it would cause some interference? Any suggestions let me know please. Oh and that camo pattern is sick.
So far I like it in the middle. I really don't have room to mount it on the side with out fabricating something. I has worked well in this position and I have been comfortable and have been out on some 8 hour floats. The only thing I was going to change was the position of the ducer but that held up in some real rough river fishing as well. Hope that helps and good luck! Thanks for watching.
The kayak has proven to be one of the best things I have purchased in a long time!!!! I like the fact that I can get out on smaller bodies of water and away from shore because I have so many more opportunities even with forest preserve lakes. It allows me to get places on bodies of water that I have fished for years, but have not had access too! I have had a string of bad luck and just real busy lately and have not been out much and I have some new cameras to mount for vid documentation.
Awesome FF/GPS you got there that things a beauty! Can I ask why you didn't use the compartment it comes with to install it? My guess it was too big lol that's a perfect spot on the lid though cause I have mine in the actual sonar compartment and it's alittle pain to get to.
@TieOneOnFishingProd The transducer is actually too small for the scupper hole. The hard thing is that since the unit has down imaging with temp sensor built in, the ducer has to be in the water. I did not feel like making a mounting bracket that hangs off the kayak because I think that would be a pain and cause torque when paddling. I mounted it on the back there but am still not conviced I am keeping it there because I have been fishing rivers here in Illinois and they are shallow.
@TieOneOnFishingProd I still may move to another location or fabricate a mounting bracket for closer to the middle of the hull and make it adjustable so if I get into some fast shallow water, I will be able to retratct the ducer to aviod damage. The unit is great and thanks for the comment!!!
