That is nice - using the old controllers through USB and run an emulator on the PC. It'll be as close to the real deal as possible. Still I do prefer running stuff on the original hardware. But I do thing emulation is wonderful to preserve stuff and play things you have no access to.
I used to big into emulation, but these days I prefer the original console. I only use emulation for arcade games and rare/expensive games and systems.

I have a USB Sega Saturn controller (made by SLS division of Sega), it's very good, great for emulation.
