hi there.... great performance.............. so amazing.................. by the way, i'm planning to get an electone. which is more user friendly an EL90 or EL900m?
Very well played although a little faster than i think Mr. Stanley intended. However it's technically superb and highly enjoyable. Thank you. I own four teenagers and they all wear trainers - even with suits - so i know where you're coming from.
A good tempo for a 'performance' of this piece (around 140). For an actual processional, I would drop it to around 122-128 and expand the trumpet a bit - instead of tah - di-di - di- tah, more at tah - di-tah - di-tah; not just slower, but with attitude and plenty of punch. Close your eyes and think of ushering a princess down the aisle - see the majesty, pomp, and adoration - royality should not be rushed - I'd love to hear you play it like that. Do you also play the 'traditional' organ?
@aBachwardsfellow thanks for the comment; i've heard it played so many ways, i like this one, there were a few spots where the trumpet trills didn't come out the way i wanted, i've played pipe organs before, but not too much
@brittmusic - yep -- I like this one too! :-) - been playin' it quite a few times -- haven't heard anything noticeable in the trills -- could have been different, but they're not bad at all. While you can't beat a REALLY GOOD pipe organ in a REALLY GOOD room, it's hard to get access to those !! Too often the pipe organs we hear and play are much less than optimal -- and unfortunantly the sound can't be customized the way you can an EL-90 !!! - a very nice registration & performance!!
@aBachwardsfellow -- on a different note (or rather, several-thousands of notes...) -- as dear to my heart as the Baroque is, I HAVE to say, "HO-LY COW!!!" on that 1992 Yamaha Electone Finalist performance!!! YIKES! I think even Bach would stand and applaud that one! What a fantastic, superb combination of musicianship, talent and technology! KUDOS BEACOUP! ... and thanks for posting that -- keep 'em coming!
Wow! I agree -- a stunning performance! The fact that you actually play the trumpet serves you well in rendering this (... and Diane Bish can't add vibrato to 8' Festival Trumpets! :-) Is the sound coming from in-built speakers, or external speakers?
This might very well rival Diane Bish, very well done. Would be lovely if you could find a real analogue organ to play it on in some church or concert hall :)
What an excellent performance here. I'm stunned by the quality of the organ sound and the realistic trumpet sound (with aftertouch) on an organ of that age. Yamaha has always been the best :-) !!!!
Is that reverb also from the Yamaha or is it added by the Roland Digital recorder (I use the Roland VS-1680)?
nice performance! but how do you pedal in those DG scater shoes?? I was always with socks or dress shoes. Leather sole to slide across the pedals... (I am old school E-45 double pedal board in wood)
no I have the music and it not like Stanley wrote it Much slower number and less thrills in the Hincrichsen Editions 1034 it is the second movement Andante largo it is marked
Surfing amongst the Stanley waves I dropped in on this one thinking, "Wow, that's pretty neat for a young teen-aged boy! He does well and should have a full AGO keyboard to jam on!" Apologies, Mr. Cawthon, but those dancing, pigeon-toed sneakers faked me out !
amazing it is a great classicl piece and Hector is also a good friend that I met when I was 14 here in the states n e ways u did a zwsome job with this piece even stanley would be proud bravo bravo BRAVO BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Britt, how do you play with your feet? My dad has an organ and I try to play it with the foot pedals and its kind of hard. Maybe if I can get my hands on a newer style organ or electone I might be able to play with my feet.
Just takes practice, just like learning the notes on the keyboard. Any organ will do, but the modern electronic organs have a lot more variety of sounds for the feet.
Okay. On the Roland Aterlier I know how you change registration. At about 2:02 you change from Trumpet to Tibia on the upper manual. How did you do that one??
The registration buttons are between the upper and lower keyboards, you can see my finger extend slightly to touch the registration button for the change.
Well... the Werner Icking Music Archive, and IMSLP both have this tune in the collections of music by John Stanley.
It's the fifth voluntary from Opus 6. It is the "Andante Largo" section of the piece. But, it is not in the style of Diane Bish's arrangment, it's more or less like the urtext edition by Stanley.
Britt, as a trumpeter and pianist myself, you mention that you were unhappy with the trills in this 'take' but I don't think there is really any lack of expression or error in the trumpet trills, whether or not you intended it, a trumpet trill and piano trill are two different beasts. These trills are expressively brilliant and mimic the expression of a trumpeter very well, as best you can with YouTube Audio Quality, of course.
oh, you should get you hands on a Tyros 3, if you can lend on or something (maybe record something in the music store). Would be really fun for a keyboard player like my self to see what you could do with it :D
I'm just baffled. This is amazingly well played, it's perfection. Thank you so much for this. And I'm pretty sure that you would have blown every classical composer in history away with this performance and this instrument :D
I've always thought, that it must be tremendously enjoyable, and satisfying, to be able to sit down, and produce such incredible music, so seemingly effortlessly. The gift you have is such a magical, miraculous thing. Bless you for sharing. It just Blows me away, and I know it's not just the electronics! Bach, would piss his pants, if he could hear you!
Thanks! Bach would have gone crazy with an instrument like this...to think of all the more he could of spit out with the connection to a computer rather than having to write everything tediously slow by hand.
I recorded it directly into my Roland Edirol R-09HR hand held digital recorder. I changed nothing with the EQ. I just make sure I use clean sounding registrations, and do not record it too loud.
Very good perfoemance, and not a bad sound either. You get 5 big stars! I play in my #14 stocking feet because shoes cover 3 AGO pedals and 4 or 5 of yours.

summary: I LOVE IT!!!!

@robbiedoesNL The reverb is built in to the EL-90. Nothing was added by the Roland Digital Recorder.

Did I mention yet this is fantastic?
I can hardly believe this was performed on the great EL-90. Oh, I miss it every day. One day I'll buy one again to keep my EL-900m company.
Oh my, this is great...!

In your description it says 18 note pedal board. I hope your EL-90 has a 20 note pedal board though!

Very good, that's correct. It actually has 20 notes, and I just corrected it in the description.
