Looked to me like it might have been Jim Ed Brown doing the introduction to Bill Monroe & The Blue Grass Boys. Then at the 1:00 mark - is that Chet Atkins ?? Is there anyone out there watching this that knows anything about Bluegrass or Country music , can substantiate ??
Aside from a bit of an out of timing start by the bass man , a great rendition of Monroe's Rawhide. Kenny Baker (RIP) sounds great here.
@sarge958 bluegrass is not a subdivision of country music...........it is it's own music and stands on it's own. Country music stations do not play bluegrass music, IBMA is not supported by CMA.........I could go on and on,
One thing you can certainly say about the ""older original"" country stars they were ALWAYS smartly dressed and skilled at their instruments and didnt need studio gimmicks to enhance their talents. Thanks for posting its Brilliant
Thanks for posing this. I saw and met Bill Monroe for the first time at Seton Hall University in Spring of 1974 when the did a concert there. What amazed me was that the SAB would actually hire a Blue Grass band and they very best one there was at that. Up to that point I thought I was the only one growing up that liked Blue Grass music but that concert filled the Student Center and I was introduced to my all time favorite fiddler who is Kenny Baker. A great night.
I found the comment about the scrolls and the gibson inlay very informational and interesting too. I do no know why people voted it down. It is true. Anyone who takes a pocket knife to a gibson F-5 has a bit of Diva in them.
Bill was one of the best! I want to leave work and play my mandolin right now!
@bluegrasssingingman ............David Peterson is playing hardcore old school grass and my cousin Ron plays bass for him....David let's him take a solo every now and again. You are the kind of guy I hate to run across at a festival, you think you know a lot .......and don't really know much of anything.
@Kitinetnies i know he gouged the name gibson out, because Gibson wouldn't, repair his mandolin, and when he was going sue Gibson. They gave bill a new mandolin
These are some real low down stink fart rotten toothed inbred hillbilly boys. Dem dar is the real McCoys!

Interesting. Note the snapped off piece of the head scroll and gouged out "gibson" pearl inlay at 1:11. Must have been before he got it replaced.

@Argetnar Only Bill Monroe would do something like that to an instrument they play daily haha :)

why no bass solo???
klunx13 2 years ago
@klunx13 because bass gets no lead, its bluegrass not rock.
bluegrasssingingman 1 year ago
@bluegrasssingingman .......bass players get solos in bluegrass quite a bit, but rawhide wouldn't be a good tune for it.
vibrasonic99 3 months ago
@vibrasonic99 No they don't. Maybe in your world of New grass crap.

@vibrasonic99 Only because gives him some lead. Bass is for timing it isn't a lead instrument. I know you don't know much about Bluegrass.
bluegrasssingingman 2 months ago
@vibrasonic99 Well we know you don't no what a rhythm instrument is.
bluegrasssingingman 2 months ago
@vibrasonic99 Very seldom if any. Maybe on a bluesy, rockabilly tune. not Bluegrass tunes.

hehe, gouged out "gibson" and knocked the scrolls off just cuz they refinished his Loar... total diva, but earned it.
