  • 308 yrs ago no its not its 38

  • I love how usher sampled this song that's how I discover this song

  • its amazing how you sounds like a recording live.

  • THE KING...............

  • Whoa Stevie!

  • Funky

  • Some songs are not meant to be seen in a live performance, and this is one of them. The lyrics are SO powerful that anything visual takes attention away from them. This song is not meant to be a "groove", but to be listened to, with the message taken seriously. On the record you can hear Stevie's pain and anger loud and clear.

  • I was there is the audience for this session but real recording of this was on Jan3rd. they often played the same clips for weeks afterwards. Stevie wonder played live at the this session when I walked in he was playing at the piano just for the hell of it. Never realised it was him til someone came up and led him away so that the recording could begin.

He actually played about 3 songs he loved to perform even though only 1 song would get played. he did superstition and mary superwoman?.

  • he reminds me of Donny Hathaway with the turtleneck and hat on!

  • STEVIE WONDER IS A BRILLIANT SINGER , SONGWRITER, PERFORMER, AN ICON AND A GENTLEMAN. HIS MUSIC SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. HE HAS SO MANY GREAT SONGS AND GOTTEN A LOT OF AWARDS THROUGH THE YEARS. HIS SONGS ARE STILL GOING STRONG AND ENJOYED BY MILLIONS OF , WHICH I AM HIS NUMBER ONE. THANKS, STEVIE FOR SHARING YOUR SONGS WITH US.

  • Too be honest, you hardly ever see talented brothers like this anymore. Just rap, and oversexed garbage from corporate music mills.

  • i love this guy. im into modern rock, bu this is just, better than that!!!

  • Stop living just enough for the city!!! Come on stevie tell again

  • HUGH?!!!!! REAL TALK~~~~ U BETTA SANG THAT SHYT STEVIE!!! LUV IT!!!

  • I wonder what Stevie Wonder's background singers are doing today.

  • @BigBlueBeast well, the background singers on this live performance are Deniece Williams, Syreeta Wright (Stevie's then wife), and Angela Winbush

  • I love you Stevie!!! <3

  • every one do the stevie

  • The greatest! Stevie has touched more lives than any of us that are blessed with our sight day in and day out. God bless you S.W!

  • A true legend

  • Seeing the dancing girls come out and dance to "The Love I lost" only makes me long to see a video of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes actually singing the song.

  • There will never be another Stevie Wonder, he is just great!

  • talent, all the way thru,

  • There are certain songs that carry their own atmosphere and hit such an emotional nerve that they're actually capable of taking you somewhere. This is one of those songs.

  • Well said !

  • thanks very much

  • awesome post, thx! now this is Music and SOUL

  • nearly 100'000

    c'mon

  • what the hell were the dancing girls all about

  • Those were Pan's People. Back in those days videos were very much the exception rather than the rule, and not everyone came in to play (or in most cases, mime). So Top of the Pops had a dance troupe.

  • he looks like Donny Hathaway in this video a lil bit

  • I think you´re right. I thought the same.

  • Oh to go back to these days!Love this man! xxxxxxThanks for this post! xxx

  • Saginaw,Mi... was once a GREAT place to live............NOW like this song, living enough for the CITY.... Great job AMERICA

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. I never noticed in ALL the 1000's of times I have heard this song, until last year, that When the girls are singing "living just enough", and Stevie is vocalizing, that he says "the F***ing crap is sh***y"! They played that line on the radio all the time, and I have never met anyone to catch it but me.

  • he is a WONDER

  • yes..

Stevie Wonder's wonderlove singers... at one time or another it included Denice Williams, Minnie Riperton, and Angela Winbush..by 1973 Minnie was beginning her solo career, Neicy would not start her career until 1976.. "free".

  • Big tune!

    Stevie is king

  • WOW

  • I knew he was special when I first saw him on TV singing "Fingertips pt.1 & 2",Everybody say yeah! when he was "Little Stevie Wonder" he's grown into a real Wonder & Genius I Love this man!!!Thanks for posting this!

  • This video is good but you can barely hear bass.

  • One of my all time favorite songs. It takes me back to when I visited the USA in 1973. This guy is an absolute genius.

  • Great smile!!!

  • Great performance, song & vid. ROCK ON STEVIE! But whats with those crap dancers at the end @2.11. Someone please cut them out & throw them back into the dustbin of history

  • Nah! The brunette is still hot!

  • great song

    great hat

  • the drummer has a cool afro good song

  • I do dig the hat (;

  • Now this is a classic. And look at that hat.

  • Yes, I see the hat. What's up? I was concentrating on the music & performance.

  • i love this song jonny lang does a great cover

  • THE BEST VOICE HTE WORLD EVER HAD

  • TRUE!!!

  • it was mesed up good song bad vid

  • a boy is born in Hardtime MISSISSIPPI/ surrounded by, four walls that aint so PRETTY/ his parents give, him love and AFFECTION/ to keep him strong, movin in the right DIRECTION/ livin just enough/ JUST ENOUGH/ for the CITAAAYAH...his father works, some days for FOURTEEN HOURS/and you can bet, he BARLEY makes a DOLLAR/his mother goes, to scrub the floors for MANY/and ya best believe, SHE HARDLEY GETS A PENNY/livin just enough/JUST ENOUGH/for the CITAAAAY-YAH...[musical interlude]....

  • ...AHHHHOOOOH/his sista's black, but she is sho'nough PRETTY/her skirt is short, BUT LORD 'ER LEGS ARE STURDY/to walk to school, she's got ta get up EARLY/her cloths are old/ BUT NEVER ARE THEY DIRTY/livin just enough/ JUST ENOUGH/for the CITAAAAAYYYAH.../ ummmm- her brother's smart, he got more sense than MANY/his patience long, BUT SOON HE WONT HAVE ANY/to find a job, is like a haystack NEEDLE/ cause where he lives, THEY DONT USE COLORED PEOPLE/livin just enough/JUST ENOUGH/for the CITAAAAYYYY

  • CLAP YA HANDS

  • love this even more if it wasnt so messed up of a video, skips and retracts. kind of annoying.

  • SW has intruiged and perplexed me for 40 years. 1st off, he's a genius, no question, but can churn out the most inane songs or be content with happy-clappy performances of his true classics that (in this case) were (rightfully) powerful and angry polemics. Recently he let an unworthy boy band share his stage. Does he not appreciate the cultural value of his own work? Should've talked to Miles, maybe? Listen to to the original album version and you'll see what I mean. Respect to the Man, anyway.

  • Maybe we don't have to view people sharing their music as having less respect for it. Stevie is known to be a giving person, who "sees" the world differently than we do, which is part of his creativity. I see it as accommodating, and do not choose to let who he shares a stage with change my opinion. Though, I've lightened up a bit, and might have felt the same as you years ago.

  • to DannyDESPERATE,ARE YOU TALKING about his song "signed sealed delivered" with the band BLUE,if you are dayumm stop hatinn i love stevie i love Blue and i lovE sTEVIE and that was a really good song...............even though the original was better...noone can top STEVIE W

  • You look at a classic performance like this and you realize how shit the music today is.

  • @bluesbrother37 I'm with you brother - today it's all about makeup, mixing and editing - no-one's real anymore! They say the day of vinyl is over and everyone is so plastic!! funny eh?

  • @bluesbrother37 Whose "you", man? Music is great - todays and yesterdays

  • @bluesbrother37 You are so right, today's music is lifeless commercial trash with no feeling, just corporate profits and fake wannabes!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bluesbrother37 oh brother.. could NOT agree with you more

  • @bluesbrother37 And that goes fro the Movie industry as well. Anyone who has memories of the 1960's and 1970's must feel lucky, I do.

  • @bluesbrother37 Sir Wonder is truly beyond genious

i have been rediscovering his back cataloge lately and i totally crapped

my pants upon learning he played most instrumets INCLUDING DRUMS

    the guy is a GOD

  • I thought that it was pretty standard to lipsync on TOTP's, in fact, from what I understand, it's encouraged by the program. Obviously more proof that Stevie is the man if he managed to get around that.

  • who's playing the synthesizer parts?

  • That drummer looks well stoned!! Great song!!

  • cat can out play most anyone like it ain't no big deal, just listen and you will get it. maybe. hopefully..lol

  • pure legend. Paul McCartney aint got nothing on stevie

  • who the hell said he did!? :s

  • Well let's face it - you are comparing two completely different artists. Paul is great at what he does, and Stevie is great at what he does, so it's an odd choice to compare.

  • Here in the UK at least, McCartney is always given stupid titles like "greatest living music legend" which is what I was referring to. If Stevie was white and sighted he would be given a LOT more recognition as a musical genius is all I'm saying.

p.s. Paul was nothing without John

  • Well I'm not even going to take the bait for that last p.s. Obviously you don't like Paul so nothing that I say will make any difference. I appreciate Lennon, McCartney and Stevie Wonder for all their separate contributions to the music industry, without a thought of who is better than who.

  • great song, nice little snippet of pans people at the end grooving to harold melvin

  • Maybe not rap but alot of work goes into some hip-hop that yoou may not recognize

  • esto si que es funky

  • SO great !! I miss music like that today. Great groove, energy, generosity, hope... I mean, can you find this beauty in rap or modern r n b ? I don't.

  • I agree. No one wants to put the work in to make great music. they just want to make a quick buck.

  • Little Stevie...the epitome of soul music! Beautiful songs, beautiful human being.

  • Stunning. Could have done a better job in editing, as it skipped around a bit; still, the essence was captured. And his drummer is off the chain! I wonder if he's still alive...

  • haha, look at the crowd from 1.12 - they're not really sure how to move to this sick music.

  • this is the best vocals song in history i mean jesus christ

  • haha yeah...they are dancing like they are wearing concrete wellies

  • Goddamn he was 23 fucking years old! Incredible!

  • followed stevie for donkey years.

  • the drummer's so badass

  • the guy playing the synth is guitarrist Michael Sembello

  • is that Stevies arp2600 synth beside him.. nice live performance

  • his best version of this song. what a groove

  • whos playin the synth parts?

  • theres a guy behind the singers playing the synth part.

  • Great stuff my friend!! Keep em coming!!
