"The dates of the Classical Period in Western music are generally accepted as being between about 1750 and 1830. However, the term classical music is used colloquially to describe a variety of Western musical styles from the ninth century to the present, and especially from the sixteenth or seventeenth to the nineteenth."
Why be so hostile? I don't know the difference between romantic and classical either. If only people like you are here to learn from I think I will just remain an idiot.
I agree with j71, there is no need for hostility or name calling. Let's just share the music and our knowledge of it and be glad people are loving it. If I don't know the difference between classical and romantic that does not make me an idiot or a dirtbag. So much for civilized question and discourse.
Oh yes, and "I"M GOING TO BASH YOUR BRAINS IN WITH IT" :)

@PublicLibraryx Berlioz was one of the first musical composers that didn't come from a musical background. He could only play the guitar and didn't know how to play anything else. He was also a true Romantic composer, meaning he didn't write his music for others enjoyment.
@sunflowergirl0778 Yes it is, starting about 3:20 on this video, there might be slight differences in the Soundtrack version though. The legendary Jerry Goldsmith, who composed many soundtracks from the 1950s to his death in 2004, also composed for the Sleeping with the enemy soundtrack.
My favorite song in the world! This is going to be played at my funeral, for sure!! Thanks for the amazing upload. Have been listening to so many "cut-out" one, and I have the CD so I know how it really sounds like, and yours - exactly the same! Amazing, thank you!
The music expresses man's unreachable dreams....searching for the realization of his dream...I love it! thanks for putting my imagination beyond the celestial space.
@ShortieNina I know that. I mean in the general genre. I know that this is technically Romantic music, that is, a period of music stretching from around the beginning of the 19th century with composers such as Beethoven to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century with composers such as Dvorak and Elgar.
@ShortieNina Romantic is called classical too, noob. Classical is used as an umbrella term for multiple periods like Baroque and Romantic, including, of course, the classical era itself up until 1900.
pero ese término esta mal utilizado. lo correcto para referirse a toda la música de arte sea medieval, renacentista, barroca, clásica, romántica etc. sería música academica ;)
@ShortieNina Don't you use that word 'noob' in a comment on this video. This music is pure art, so don't ruin it by using one of those brainless terms in a comment.
@LolsoFuny I believe when MrButtlick32 said "Romantic" he was referreing to the era of which this piece was written. Yes, this is a romantic symphony. It actually set the bar for what a symphony of the day should be, and helped establish the modern orchestra. I suggest you read a text book, or take a new music appreciation class.
I feel like half the views on this video must be me. I love this piece. Will be playing it in an orchestra soon; super excited!

It would be awesome if Disney added this to their next Fantasia production.
(But I know they won't. :( )

Symphonie Fantastique was written in 1830. Totentanz was written in 1849. I don't think that Berlioz copied Liszt. The other way around????lol
charlesrgordon 3 months ago
@charlesrgordon I agree. It's actually fairly common for composers to copy the old gregorian chant "Dies Irae." For god's sake I've done it. Lol.
