Each thing within it both is humorous and makes a valid point (or in other words criticism) about society. All smiles, no controversy or reaction to come from provocative social and human satirization? THAT would be cause for upset. If you have to explain this, you didn't do a good enough job telling your story in the first place. Germaine's "story arc" comes off as goth/inflation/humiliation fetish fodder, not some deep symbolic feminist bullshit. You could argue that her life is meant to be reductio ad absurdum, but that seems like a cop out. To me, it always seemed like you wanted to make soft core porn, but felt bad about it when folks called it gross, so you pretended there was a story behind it the whole time.
