  • Marvel had the property in the 1970s, produced some good looking adaptations.

DC had the property at the end of the 1980s and tried to update him to the modern world and it was bad.

  • If this is an indication of future "First Wave" from DC, I hope they change the name to "Last Wave". It was so bland and pointless that I thought it was something written by Dwayne McDuffie. Azzarello can do better than this crap. The art was stiff and the colors looked washed out.

Doc Savage needs to be left in the paperbacks. That's where he fits in best.

  • Hm. But what if someone like Matt Wagner gave him a shot? Or Adam Hughes? Or even J. Scott Campbell?

    Elliott

  • @comicculturewarrior If these super talents were attached to Doc Savage, I'd give it a look. But when Azzy admitted only cursory knowledge of Doc, I knew he was unqualified for the job. The slap at "ten guys in their 70's" didn't help either. I'd love to see an Adam Hughes Patricia Savage.

  • uhh, who the heck is Doc Savage?? I'm curious now. I'll look him up on wiki, he sounds like a super hero from the dinosaur era.. like kazar or something.

  • Think of a cross between Batman and Indiana Jones, only from the 30's and 40's. I read some of the old Doc Savage stuff, it is pretty tame by today's standards.

  • They're cancelling Dollhouse

Sorry to not be on subject, but it bugged me

  • i know , i mentioend it previously but some said it didnt surprise them because they felt it was gonna happen.

  • hehehe 300 VIEWS that means a new vid is coming out soon!

  • i liked this book for all the reasons that Elliott stated (in fact i even made it my book of the week on the blog), but that's not to say that i disagree with your criticism's, especially when it comes to the price. Not sure if I'm going to be on board for First Wave or not.

  • Yeah, I was rather "underwhelmed" with this comic.

    I liked "For Tomorrow".

  • I said from the very beginning that I had a bad feeling about this book--I hate to say I told you so, but.... I was shocked at the cover price and it only got worse when I looked inside. This book was a missed opportunity and unused potential. The art was so unfinished and the story beyond thin. It was not a one-shot! Even worse, it was a drawn-out intro to an upcoming new series that didn't leaving wanting more but left me wanting something better. Try again.... I love Doc Savage & Bats

  • I loved this book. This was my first exposure to Doc Savage and he's quickly become one of my favorite characters. The art was amazing and it felt different enough to warrant an entire different universe. I'm officially on board for First Wave in 2010.

  • Batman meets the man that inspired Superman. That sounds pretty cool.

  • The Shadow is the first superhero as he predates Doc Savage.

Ironicly The Shadow came out was very popular and so they went and comisioned another writer and we got Doc Savage.

Then Superman (who was originally very much a rip off of Doc Savage) was madea nd because he was so popular they went and got Batman (who began as basicly the Shadow in a bat costume the first issue is even a Shadow story).

  • 5 bucks saved. Thanks guys!!!

    Matthew

  • I dunno about this book. Batman having TWO guns looked silly and it didn't serve any purpose for him to have guns, AT ALL. When Batman and Doc fight, Batman puts his guns against Doc's head for no reason at all, he wasn't even going to pull the triggers! The only scene I liked was Bruce and Doc Savage at the party because it was classic Batman, the rest of the book was completely useless. If anything this book is proof of why Batman should never use guns.

  • I hated For Tomorrow as well...HATED.

It indicated to me that Azzarello was a one trick pony.

  • WHY oh WHY did weget the Abs. treatment Superman For Tomorrow? I wanted a quality story & art for something that big a price tag.

    Matthew

  • This was ok, it didn't quite live up to what I hoped from it.

Phil Noto is one of my favourite artists but I didn't think he had a heavy enough line for this type of book. Michael Avon Oeming would be perfect for Doc Savage.

There was an artist on Detective comics about 10 years ago called Shawn Martinbrough who would be so perfect for this book, he's doing Luke Cage noir for marvel apparently.
