story for women. Leap Year lends itself to a sub-genre of RC's in that it's a woman driven plot. Sending the message that if there is something that you want in this life, don't wait for it go out there and take it. Now interestingly enough this does fall into some immediate cliches, but not all cliches are bad. If they are applied properly they can be a quick way to get a point across to an audience(and for a 90 minute comedy time is important if we want actual character development).
I'm not sure that I agree that Leap Year is a sign of the moviepocalypse. I haven't seen the film yet, and if I do and it turns out 2 be another cookie cutter romantic comedy coming off an assembly line then sure. But until then I think it's important to note, as you did with Sex and the City, that there have not really been may movies that would motivate a strong female response. Leap Year, as a story of a woman taking her relationship into her own hands, could very well be a very empowering
It's nice to see Avatar still in the lead. Also I think it's good that Michael Sera is experiencing a failed movie which might encourage him to expand his acting skills. If he can't do that, then maybe he should try his luck behind the scenes as a director or producer.
TMPC: i wrote a psuedo-preview review for 'daybreakers' as a facebook note some time back, and tagged you in it - just want to know, did you read it and did it match up to the expectations of the movie?
i'd've seen it myself by now, if it wasn't for the fact that the australian release date is later in the month..
Leap Year was made 2 have a "chick flick" out. All movies out now r made 4 men by men, or just kids. The acting looks HORRIBLE. Predictible, boring, lazy, so on. It's sad that film makers think all women r empty headed hopeless romantics.
Youth in Revolt is just a test 2 c if Michael Cera is still "cool." "Wierd places" indeed! What is this about, can people really c both sides of him? Confusing & slightly disturbing. The soft talking is getting on my nerves 2. >:[
nearly all scifi characters from flash gordon, capt. kirk, that dude from 2001 space oddessy, right on down to jake sully. are simplistic intentionally. their character is simply the tool for viewing the message we are supposed to see. in fact "serious" readers discard sci fi because of the poor character development. they foolishly do not understand that is not the intention of the genre in the first place.
Avatar has brought scifi back to what it was intended to do in the first place. that isn't character development or complex plots. you want those go see a play by Tennessee Williams. sci fi is intended to provide the viewer with a realization of a futuristic world and also to reflect problems current to our times. Avatar did this flawlessly. characters and story lines are SUPPOSED to be simplistic as to not distract from the main point.
I thought the storyline was solid in Avatar. A truly meaningful film that lived up to its CGI...character develpement was not rounded out because it was not necessary to. The point of the movie was the contrast between the simplicity and delicacy of nature and the eroding force humanity. Also at work was the level of transformation from one culture to the next. not the first time its been done..but thats true with a lot of stories (star wars and harry potter ain't that original either). CONT.
Avatar was mediocore at best. The effects were great, but the story was unoriginal and predicible and the acting was pretty pitiful. Avatar is another sign of mediocore films. Sherlock Holmes was better.
Leap Year original? Three words. Sweet Home Alabama. And even if you argue against that, it really is just the same thing over again.
I don't think Avatar is a sign of hope. Just because Hollywood moves from remakes and such doesn't mean things are getting better. Avatar isn't original in its story, it pushes effects and the effects are what everyone seems to get wowed by not story.
I hope the reason you're on here less is because you've moved onto better things, you sound really tired lately.
Nicely said! Really great points! I never saw Sweet Home Alabama...but I could see this one called Sweet Home Begorra! Avatar is on that fine line...800 million would've been more movie hope, but 1.6 billion or more - that's tiltling the scales a bit to say "Everything is 3-D" As for being tired, a bit. I recorded this late at night and it was more stream of consciousness. I tend to write the reviews first so when their read/recorded I'm a bit more voice-direct-projecting. TMPC is still my thing
You would put a level a logic and understanding of movies into films like a shakespere. Honestly you seem like a guy I would love to talk to and just discuss movies and their representation of life and its pros and cons. And I have to mention the watchmen review, it explained that not only does a movie remake have to capture the feel of the original but also show how things were when the original was printed like a time machine on paper.
Personally, I am not sure if the success of Avatar will give us a better or worse movie future. Even though it is directed by one of the best directors, Avatar feels like borderline CGI porn with weak story-telling and less than memorable characters. Imagine what would it like when all the studios start to make 3D CGI movies with less recognised directers. It would be a horrible movie future to see many lesser Avatar-style movies made a year
I'll just say that I'd also like to see a bit more editing. Just a bit, because I know it can be very time consuming, especially if you're a perfectionist.
A poster of the movie you're talking about, a number for the current place and maybe the gross. It would be easier to follow what are you talking about at that point.
Another good vid. I wonder what your thoughts are on 3d movies. Is it going to just be a fad like it was in the 50s or are people going to want to start demanding 3d everything?
Critic im sorry but i honestly think the reason for so many people seeing avatar is not its story but the same reason for transformers which is "Yeah man lets the cg blow @$#% up"
I actually didn't like avatar much. Cameron had too much time to have a seen-it-before story like this. Kinda like George Lucas was capable of much more that giving us a terrible character development of Anakin.
Could care less if iAvatar makes tons of money, or goes at IMDB #1; because I am a movie-goer, I don't profit personally from movie's success.
I'm glad Avatar is sending some of these other movies to the bottom. Seems like every year there's a shitload of the same uninspired garbage hitting the screen. How many more vampire movies do we need? Crude humour films are released once a week. You don't see anything like Ferris Bueller these days. At least John Hughes knew that teen angst involved more than sex, drugs, and alcohol. Well, at least for my generation. Teens these days can't even spell.
I fail to see how saying I didn't like a movie makes me an idiot. I didn't make any idiotic claims saying it was bad. I just said that I personally didn't enjoy the film. And as it was pointed out previously, "your" doesn't make any sense in your sentence. Since it's impossible for me to own being an idiot. The correct form you were looking for was "you're." meaning You are.
For now this is a Box Office Breakdown thing. I'd rather spend time editing on the Pre-Res. The video editing doubles the time. Maybe in the furue the B.O.B will change, but for now, it'll be like this. Thanks for checking!

Or only for Box office breakdowns?
Because I love it when you have fun with the video like in the new moon view with the "Oh shut up already and look at my Abs! Abs! Abs!"
