  • My dad has a 420 john Deere that i went through a few years ago. Almost the same thing

  • 19 horses of fury!!!!!!! lol

  • Nice MT! My dad has one in standard configuration and my cousin has an M. And yes they did make an MT with a wide front end that wasn't labeled as an M.

  • and MR. "powerhungrytoo" thats one very nice MT, im a John Deere nut, and own 3 M-s myself. and am acctually hunting for a MT , the wide one of course. well ill have to see what you all gota say now! lol later gaters

  • on a 420 U- the normal drop axel of the M is acctually faceing backwards instead of down. hents the extra length and how its lower. the 420 U came in wide fronts. even the normal 40 came with a drop axel. a 40 hi crop still has a drop axel, but a 40T does not. did you guys think that maybe "T" stands for TALL and not TRICICAL!?!! this is a BEAUTIFUL MT and there was no sticker between tricial and wide, no mt, and mtw, just the MT with two options, and yes the adjustible wide front is more rare.

  • OH MY FREAKIN LORD! (chris farly quoted you idiots) mr. fiims, your rong, and tr weaver 88 your rong too! the MT DID come in wide front ends... YOUR ALL LOOKING IN THE RONG PLACE!!! look at the REAR END!!! its not just a M... a normal M has a drop axel-hents why it has smaller wheels then the one in this video. a MT has no drop axel, the axel is stright threw to the center of the wheel! on a drop axel normal M the axel comes out over top of the center of the wheel, then has a drop hub!

  • I can't believe how many people think this is a model M and act so god divined right its a model MT with an adjustable Front end both the M and the MT had an option for adjustable front end but just a "normal" M had and standard front end and a lower clearance than to MT

  • @JLMonroeFilms Actually it is an MT. You could get an MT with a wide or narrow front end. It's kind of like a row crop B with a wide front end.

Using a B for an example you can liken the actual "standard" M to a BR.

On a wide front MT the front axle is forward of where you would expect the tricycle post to be. This is because the steering that would be used to turn the tricycle is now used to turn a pitman arm.

I'm not very familiar with M's but that's pretty close!

  • Mr Fiims I hate too say it but your a complete IDIOT. You need to go to John Deere school and look up the history!!!1

  • @powerhungrytoo um i hate to say it but hes actually right, thats just a model m, the t's were the tricycle front end, i have a 40t, a 40 with a wide front is just a 40, you need either put the wide front on the tractor or you yourself dont know the history.

  • there is no such thing as a model Mt wide front, the wide front is probably an after market application. That is a beauty of a tractor though

  • @farmerandy09 you serious lol yes there is my grand pa bought ours new in 1950 and we bought it at the dealer with the ajustible wide front

  • The difference is torque. Your 24hp can't hold a candle to the 21hp in that John Deere when it comes to torque. Then there is the gearing, and the weight of the rig itself that makes all the difference.

  • @mondo78 Well said. Many people see the power numbers of the older 2 cyl john deere's and think they have no balls. Well, a good example is the Model R diesel. Only 60 or so hp, but over 400 ft lb of torque. I don't know how much torque the little M's engine makes, but I'd bet its close to 100 ft lbs. This compared to maybe 35 ft lb from the 24hp lawn tractor.

  • @85rotarypower

You got it! It's kindof like an old hit and miss engine, its making 1.5 hp but running at 600 rpm so the torque comes out to about 13 ftlb.

An 8 hp engine running at 3600 rpm is making about 13 ftlb!

If the M is running at rated power of 20 hp (belt) at 1650 rpm its making about 64 ftlb.

Torque is where its all at!

  • @85rotarypower an R was only 50 hp.

  • That is just like mine only mine is a trike type but they sound so good. I don't know if I could sell mine, but I have the parts book and the operater book as well.

    1953 40 tractor

  • Thats a nice mt wide but its only 18 hp a jd 420 is 28 hp

  • @52deereman JD claimed 18hp at the drawbar and 20hp at the belt or PTO.
