When in high school I would watch a Green Acres rerun after dinner and then have to sprint to catch the bus to get to work on time. Loved all those looneys, but "Hank Agent. your County Kimball" was by far my favorite, well maybe not my favorite....
Alvy was a neat guy. I knew him for about 20 years. He was just as fun in person as he was on screen. I got to know him when he worked on a film I produced - Superbman: The Other Movie (the trailer is on YouTube). He played Perry Blight, editor-in-chief of the Daily Comet. Life is serendipitous; this clip was in my recommendations module this evening. Stranger still, it's about UFOs. Why is that strange, because I just uploaded my latest video: UFO Bob's review of Rise of the Planet of Apes.
@cyborlite I had the pleasure of meeting Tom Lester (Eb) a few years back and he basically says the same. According to Tom, the whole cast was really nice. But Alvy Moore and Eddie Albert exuded class. I was glad to find out that apparently the cast of Green Acres was as nice in real life as they were zany on the show.
@ridgerunner721601 Yes, Alvy and Tom were really neat people. I met Tom briefly in 1997 after Alvy's funeral. A group of us had gathered at Alvy and Carolyn's home (his wife) for a wake/memorial. It was bitter-sweet, filled with tears and laughter as everyone shared their memories of time with Alvy. I do miss him so.
@cyborlite It's good to know that Alvy was nice in person too. I never failed to laugh when Mr. Kimball would show up and his character was so confused he'd end up getting Oliver confused....LOL. And the episodes where he was fired in favor of a new county agent that everybody disliked and the other one where he was supposed to marry Ralph, the lady carpenter were hilarious. I only hope Alvy's bringing as much laughter to heaven as he did here on earth.
I too feel Alvy Moore as Hank Kimball was the funniest character and actor of the Green Acres bunch. I would put zany calculating Pat Buttram as Mr. Haney a very close second. Both were wonderful brilliant comedians whom I hope will be remembered with great fondness for many years to come. Talk about comic timing -
that show had it in spades! A real joy and treat to watch every time....
Hank Kimball is a brilliant characterization of an absolutely far out as you get get county ag. agent. I pity the poor farmer who gets his type of help in Iowa, IL, etc. ha, ha. I'd be insane by now--poor Mr. Douglas
Its raining cats and dogs today. Well its not actually raining cats and dogs but more like pouring rain...well not actually pouring rain like out of a bucket but its raining really hard today.
Check out Alvy as Perry Blight, editor-in-chief of the Comet in Superbman: the other movie. Oh, and he can also be seen in the 50s sci-fi classic War of the Worlds.
Alvy Moore is in The Wild One with Brando. Seeing him as a biker and imagining him dressing and acting like that on Green Acres is too funny. He's also in the cult classic A Boy and His Dog, starring Don Johnson (mid-1970s).
The character of County Agent Hank Kimball was brilliant. Well, not brilliant. It was ingenious. That's, it. It was ingenious!
No... it really was more clever. Or was that the character of Arnold the Pig? No, Arnold was afraid of cleavers. He used to have nightmares about them.....
The flying saucer episodes was not one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong now: I'm still a big Green Acres fan, but there were episodes that I did and didn't like.
Perhaps a reference to "The War of the Worlds" (1953)? Not to mention that Hank Kimball is dressed EXACTLY the same way as Alvy Moore dressed in the film. He has a very small part in the beginning right after the meteor crash lands. Look closely and listen to his voice when he says, "I'm gonna see. Who's coming?"
Imagine if we had a president that did a "state of the union" address on national TV, the way Hank Kimball carries on his conversations? Or if he got on TV during a national emergency.....nobody would understand what that clown is talking about.

Hank Kimball helped to define the delicious, unabashed hilarity of 'Green Acres' that I feel anticipated 'Airplane'.

Green Acres had to have had the worst sets in TV history. Just look at that poor excuse for a tree. Stevie Wonder could have done better!
