I can't believe this movie is from 1971 it's as old as me and I still remember it from way back when I was a child... hard to believe that times goes this fast!! Great movie :)
Who here is from the Bay Area? Part of this was filmed in or around Hollywood and much of it was filmed in the San Francisco region on the bay. The classic scene of H&M sitting next to the wetlands with the carved junk sculptures was around forever when I was a kid off of 80 or 880 next to Berkley Peer and near Golden Gate fields. I think the wetlands were dredged out and a wall of rocks placed there as a tidal break. :( wetlands are disapearing everywhere.
It's a real pity I was born so much after the seventies. I really think I'd have been at home then. But no, I had to be a nineties child. Oh, well; at least I can still appreciate the beauty of Harold and Maude!
@TheLonelyImmortal ...heh, hardly. There's so much more than that. Without spoiling it too much, it AIN'T his grandmama, it would be more like his girlfriend. This movie here is The American Beauty, Rushmore, Donnie Darko of the era. Totally revolutionary, culture jamming, and boundary pushing socio-political statement of the day. Watch and see.
40 years after this movie and still fresh.never seen this trailer but great one. totallu oposite of tdy ones .no words ,just pictures and Cat Stevens wonderfull score.
This movie is such proof, We can do what we want, We all have a choice, every minute of every day. He chose to LOVE, not to do what was expected of him. He chose LIFE. How wonderful, having a guardian angel in one's Life & taking THE chance. How many have their lives already thought out planned out & one obediently does as one is told only to to exist not live, how sad when one choose to do what is expected. Remember, all One has to do is Live, Love, be true to Ones own Spirit...
I saw this when it first came out in '71 when I was 12... could never forget it..that is the kind of film it is. I recently got a copy of it...love watching it, can't grow old!!
@12yea122 A young boy obsessed with death meets a little old lady high on life and they get into some crazy antics along the way while learning some life lessons, eventually falling in love.
As in Life ... Harold and Maude is either a movie that speaks to you ... or does not.
++ Viewing Harold and Maude, in a packed Boston audience, with Ruth Gordon making a personal appearance in 1975 ... is a memory I will cherish for a lifetime.
** Kissing scene was removed as it was believed to be "over the top."
** Fu!# War ... not in film due to PG rating. PG-13 came around in 1980's.
** Seeing film "alone" and on a DVD, without the energy of an audience, will make a difference.
In the end Harold realises how precious life is. This is because of Maude's impact on his life. Harold could quite have easily have killed himself by staying in the car when it went over the edge of the cliff at the end of the film, but he didn't! This can only mean that he'd come to terms with his mental problem thanks to the influence that Maude had on his life. Fantastic film with lots of meaning for a good many people. Just watch it and you'll see!!
Goodevening KaninFamily! Wanted to comment on this very nice video. I've never seen this movie before but, it looks pretty interesting along with the song! Anita
Maybe this is cliche to say but... yeah.. This movie changed my outlook on life. My cure for depression.

Love this movie! Hate the sound track. I think Badfinger would have written better. Think 'We are for the Dark', 'Carry on 'Till Tomorrow', etc.
