The victim had hearing loss. He likely didn't hear or, if he did hear, understand the officer shouting at him "100 times." Seattle is quite noisy at that intersection and I imagine with hearing loss it would be even harder to distinguish the sounds of the officer yelling.

@STARZFAN31 If you know the full story, what happened was essentially a murder. After a lengthy investigation the officer was found in the wrong, and had his badge revoked. It was shown that the knife found at the scene was CLOSED, and the subject officer was quite a ways away from the suspect.
So it wasn't really self defence, as there was no threat posed. You can argue all you want, I'm just stating what the investigators found.

It's apparent to me, this cop didnt like the idea that anyone else near him could have a weapon on them, especially a simple knife. Notice that the old man was simply walking across the street, minding his own business and threatening no one. That didnt matter to this psychopathic cop. His first thing was to draw his gun then tell the man to drop the 'non-threatening' knife he noticed in hand. @STARZFAN31 If you know the full story, what happened was essentially a murder. After a lengthy investigation the officer was found in the wrong, and had his badge revoked. It was shown that the knife found at the scene was CLOSED, and the subject officer was quite a ways away from the suspect.
So it wasn't really self defence, as there was no threat posed. You can argue all you want, I'm just stating what the investigators found.

@izlude2 Might I point out to you that Miranda is not a constitutional right. Miranda was set into place by a court decision, not constitutional ammendment. An officer does NOT have to read you your rights when you are arrested. You are only required to be read your rights BEFORE questioning and only if the info obtained in that questioning will be used against you in court. Might want to bone up on your law a little before ya start bitching. Oh, and miranda only applies to felony arrests..

The police officer may have made the wrong decision, but there is not a single piece of evidence or justification you are giving to justify your claims.
The officer clearly asks the man to drop the knife, multiple times, he then states the man moved towards him making no effort to drop the knife (this what the officer says on video)
The officer shot him in self defense, perhaps rashly, but within the law.
Dont judge until you have been in the situation yourself.
Its never clear cut.

When the man failed to drop the weapon after 7 seconds, the officer opened fire.
The officer did not intend to kill that man, he did not have the gun pointing towards the suspect on exiting the vehicle, he held it in a relaxed grip close to his body pointed towards the ground.
He was simply taking a precaution.
