i just dont understand why ppl in the US are so against unified healthcare and listen to the crap coming from Beck mouth. capitalism isnt going to provide everyone with health care....becks insane!
Is it just me, or is Glenn Beck an Anarchist? He seems to hate any form of Government "interference" at all, and believes that the people always know whats best for themselves. Sounds like Anarchism to me.
@Ikinator91 It's more like extreme neo-liberalism. He want's minimum laws so the market can achieve maximum freedom, and in that way make maximum profit. He is probably very conservative in his view on any kind of welfare: that the state should mind their own business, and let charity solve the problems - in that way he doesn't have to contribute to the help of people he don't care about, or directly dislike.
America's health care system is AWSOME! Not only do we spend double what any other country in the world spends, we also get outranked by Singapore, Oman, Colombia, Chile and Saudi Arabia.
@MPArmstrong84 you shouldnt look at prices and such but rather the quality of the health care.. i moved here from canada and i can tell you right now that it is way worse than here... when the goverment controls health care the time you have to wait to see a dr. triples.. there is only 3 radiation centers in all of canada! my mom had to wait over 5 months to get treatment.. why?? because the goverment doesnt have enough money to pay for all of the expensive health machines, salarys etc..
@xchelsy The thing is, America DOES have enough money to pay for health care. We are ranked 38th in the world in this area... Cuba is 39th. Enough said.
@whothaplaya 800 military bases, military intervention in over half a dozen countries, and some of the lowest corprate taxes in the world tend to make a country accumulate debt. You should of smoked less before economics. Oh and lets not forget about gift wrapping 2 trillion dollars and giving it to the richest corporations on earth. People like you make me lose faith in humanity.
The British government, with it's socialised system, spends 10% of GDP on the National Health Service, which provides unlimited and universal cover at the point of use.
America, with it's private system, spends 16% of GDP on healthcare.
Why is this? God knows - but as an outsider, I can tell you, the US needs to take a good hard look at it's healthcare system. It is heartless and worrying.
Through out the the world the political system governing any country fails its people. Politicians continually show their there for themselves and other powerful interests.
We need a political revolution to install a system of government, like Switzerland. The Switz, have Citizens initiated Referenda (CIR) - Citizens can make their Government "DO WANT THEY WANT". Why do you vote for a person who will not listen and then to you dictate. All who service the people are public servants - Not GOD
I would say that the healtcare in Norway is the best in the world. And why wont USA have a good healthcare? Are you afraid to pay taxes? rather socialism than capitalism
Im against that health care reform cause it wont cover the old and if you have serious problems the government wont pay for it. They are already trying to tells us or what to feed our kids. I hate this health reform.
actualy they do the oppioset they make it harder for health providers to do buissnes . the gov adds so many regulations that the health providers have to rise the price to make a profit. (Reagan)
goverment is not the solution the goverment is the problem.
pluse i don't want a politicain telling me that i cant take an experimental drug that could save my life if i have cancer. and how is glenn evil or a right wing republican. you are an 18 year oldd who thing free health care is nice no lots$
Prostate cancer for public 57% chance of death. in private less than 15%
breast cancer in public 48%
private liess thatn 25%
in public look at canada and england they have rationing. canada has a lottery on who get coverage for that year. public no such thing as rationing. ya we pay for a socialized health care its called medicare and medicade. and kno the goverment dose not pay for our health care by giving them tax breaks or subisidies.
Most people who complain about the cost of the public option are people whose own healthcare is already currently financed by the gov in some form (either free or tax free) (you freaking socialists!). You also watch Fox News and the ass Beck and think it's really "news," because you are old, stupid idiots who can't even figure out how to use a debit card at the grocery store. Join this century, you brainwashed fools! We're paying for your healthcare while you deny us ours! You selfish jerks!
you know you idiot. i hate this reform shit. free health care is for lazy people that cant even take care of their own family. I dont need the stupid ass government helping me in shit. I can take care of my own family. They are gonna tell you what to feed your kids, your family. They will not cover the old thats almost dying. They over charge the rich in taxes. who the fuck you think pays us. they cant afford to pay their taxes, they lay off people or cant give raises.
I'm happy to help those who cannot help themselves. I'm not talking about meth addicts getting a fix, I'm talking about seniors who can't even pay to stay alive. This is not evil or socialist, it's whats right and what needs to be done.
I really don't understand how some Americans are so against a government run health care. Yes, it will have its problems, as it does in Canada, where I live. Although, everyone is covered in Canada. When I get hurt or sick, there is no question whether or not I should go get help. Likewise, when I had problems psychologically, I was reffered to a psychiatrist for no cost. My bill every month is 32 dollars Canadian, which I am happy to pay, whether or not I get sick.
I don't understand why people keep talking about America like it has a "free market" because it doesn't, it has a mixed market, if it were a free market than there would be "no" government regulation whatsoever (ie: no minimum wage, no price caps, no labor laws of any sort, unions would disappear, no work condition standards and so on) I'd say a truly "free market" would only be good for the ones making all the money
You are right on the money....even with standards in construction for builders, they still make people sick with materials from China that give off noxious fumes....home buyer finds out after he and his family sicken. We are a country of 300 million and not a small village engaged in hunting and gathering.
Why can't the neocons find themselves someplace where they can kill, disseminate hate, pollute and do as they please.
Glenn talks about airlines being able to dictate their routes and prices once the Government got out of it...? Does he not realize that the Government subsidizes the airlines 30Billion a year? They are not out of it. They are most certainly in it... Glenn Beck is a retard....
True but the government doesn't control what flights go to where and at what price like in the mid 20th century. They can't stop you from going to Afghanistan even if we have a war there. That is what he means that the government doesn't control airlines
the goverment props up the airlines so that we can fly cheap. Beck is preaching to a crowd of very dumb people, the same ones who listen to Rush. They are actually a cult in that they are unable to leave their homes or cars when their 2 gods are on the air. Need de-programmers fast!
Remember viewers according to BECK governmnet cannot be trusted right? Lets see who runs the FAA that we trust to oversee our safety when we fly uhmm guess who? Government ran. I dont think BECK fly on Airplanes. Who manage food security, water security medication security and many things we feel safe with uhm the government again. BECK TO SUM THIS UP YOU R A HYPOCRITE. PEOPLE SHOULD FIGURE THINGS OUT THEMSELVES. YOU MAKE LOTS OF MONEY FOOLING LISTENER AND KEEPING THEM IGNORANT.
The FFA only oversees safety in the U.S and Beck says that the government can't be trusted to handle things that the Free Market System can handle... like the incident at Jamestown. Ever heard of Hurricane Katrina? Well FEMA has used about 6 and a half billion dollars trying to "rebuild" New Orleans. Guess where thats gone? Nowhere. On the other hand, immediately after the hurricane private companies donated 1 billion which has helped more than the 6 and a half from FEMA. Thats what he means.
The sick uninsured people that ends up competing for a space in the Emergency rooms nationwide, don't they get covered by governmnet run health care? Isn't tax payers picking up the tab for their ER visit and all emergency treatments received, which is the most expensive? You see it take a few loud mouth media people like Glen Beck to fool many. I think if Americans figure stuff out for themselves without being influenced by Idiotic rants form people like Beck the country would be a better place
"the sick UNINSURED people that end up competing for a space..." only happens if their covered by Medicare or Medicaid. On the other hand uninsured people get billed for the ER expenses which is the most expensive (besides surgery) and the government doesn't pick up the tab. Though you'll probably be taxed on your next paycheck. And about Beck there's always gonna be two sides to every argument if not there wouldn't be an argument.
I believe that because I go to work six days a week and pay , like all Americans , 60% of my income in tax , I should get free health care . We already pay more taxes than any nation in the world over all . The idea that Capitalism will somehow save us from the system it created is ludicrous . Capitalism has become a religion to some people and because of that , they cannot see when it fails . Some things like prisons and health care should not be for profit .
Some things do not fit in to the Free Market system as neatly as others. Health care is one of those items. The element of risk to the consumer is missing in the debate. There is no guarantee in a Free Market system that your insurance provider will be there when you need them. Therefore the Safety Net they refer to in this video is a relative term in a Free Market system.
immigrants to have health insurance and why I should want to fund the killing of unborn children, and then maybe you'll have a viable argument. I work for what I have...I don't ask for anything in return other than the agreed upon amount of compensation...which in my case includes health insurance.
Look, I cannot imagine the US government not having some kind of ID requirement for free health care "Every American as it stands could walk into and emergency room and receive treatment" the emergency room can't necessarily save your life. You cannot walk into an emergency room and get cancer treatment should someone (especially if their insurance company claims that they are "too young to have cancer") die of cancer just because they cannot pay for the treatment?
That's the only REAL argument supporting Health Care Reform. I think if you need surgery for cancer and you can't afford it the government should pick up the tab
As for the abortion thing , well, I was always under the impression that women had rights. I of course think they should consider putting their kids up for adoption if they cannot afford to give them a good life (I myself was adopted from Russia and feel that I am very lucky to live in Canada) however, I refuse to believe that in a democratic society we should be permitted to decide for a woman what she does with her body especially if her pregnancy was borne of violence or coercion.
Immigrants do not have abortions....we fund their delivery in the hospital...what we call 'drop-ins'. It is the working women and girls whose family does not want them to have a child who have abortions.
Bottom line remains that all these libs out there want people who work for a living, and save their money, and act responsibly, to donate money to them in yet another government funded charity program. Let's see...welfare is certainly a banner program, social security is nearing the finish line of failure...how else can we piss money away and keep all the boozers/drug addicts/moochers of this nation happy? I know, let's reach into the pockets of responsible people and rob them blind!
see therein lies the difference between you and I; I have no problem whatsoever with a portion of my taxes going towards helping people yet I save my money, I don't work for a living since I have to go to school still but when I do I would much rather that a portion of that money go to paying for people's health insurance and for their houses (You have a legally protected right to a house here in Canada, if you don't have a house (or an apartment, I assume) you just have to fill out the right..
I believe all too often, people view captialists as evil, money hungry, greedy people who are out for their own well being. While it may be the case for many, I find it to be a nasty stereotype that has been pasted to all of us much like the stereotypes commonly pasted to liberals...ie: they all want to take away our rights to bear arms, they all want abortions available to everyone etc etc. I do donate to charities, I do volunteer my time to help underprivileged kids as well as homeless...
I work in a public service job where I'm paid a wage puts me at a level which I can live comfortably, but not the lifestyle of the rich or famous by any means. Everyday is as humbling for me as it is thankless...which I don't ever feel the need for because I'm a paid public servant...I'm compensated to help the public when they call on me. Anyway, I do whole heartedly believe that our problems in the US cannot be solved by intoducing more gov't control over anything, but rather by working...
harder to ensure people have things called morals and ethics. I fail to see how anyone could deem it an immoral or unethical notion that people should have to pay for their own insurance...health, car, home, whatever. We are gauranteed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...not one time in the US constitution is it mentioned that one of our inalienable rights is that of insurance...yet somehow today, it has become expected that people should simply be granted it while
many of them do not work for it and those who do work should be required to pick up that bill. And as far as you and I go, let me clarify this. You do not know me...so do not make statements based on assumptions concerning where I would prefer my tax dollars go. I will not apologize for the fact that I feel I am entitled to the money which I work very hard for, nor will I apologize for not wanting to fund a program that will medically insure illegal immigrants or abort children.
I concede that I did assume that you didn't want your taxes going towards health care, which was impolite; however, you did confirm that assumption. Now, as for the illegal immigrant "problem" in Ontario you have to apply for an OHIP card using two pieces of photo identification that prove that you are a Canadian citizen. As for the "capitalists are evil" thing I'm not sure where I implied that, I simply noted that large corporations most likely do not pay their fair share of income tax
Concerning your photo ID comment, that's not the way that Obamacare is said to work. Illegals are just going to have free health care...remember we're talking about the US health insurance issue, not Canada's failing health program. I never said you said anything about paying for anyone else's car insurance or home, but you did make the comment that in Canada...you're glad that your money goes to help people have health insurance and to house them as well...it wouldn't surprise if Obama tried
My intention really was to state my position on universal health care. That position of course is that I have no problem with my tax dollars (currently only in the form of GST and PST) going towards helping those less fortunate than me. I never even suggested people should have their cars or homes paid for. I said that I have no problem with my tax dollars going towards health care and housing those who cannot do so themselves. As for social program, I don't know about America's but ours work
to make us pay for everyone to have a house next. And your as far as a social program comment, Canada's health care program is failing...it's failing just like every single other social program in the history of social programs. Your own gov't is saying your need to go to a private health insurance system to survive. I guess the real problem with someone like you is that you automatically assume that everything I say is in response to something you said first...not the case.
just fine. On the the gun thing. I really don't know where the "leftists want to take away the right to bear arms" even came from. As you probably gathered I lean pretty far left and I believe that in any democratic society the right to bear arms is imperative. As for "inalienable" rights, well thats just misleading, neither Canadian nor US citizens have inalienable rights, In the US you have the Patriot Act as well as some other law that allowed the US to strip Japanese Americans of their so
called inalienable rights during World War II. And I am sure there is buried within your legal structure other ways to strip people of their rights. In Canada each province has the right to use the Notwithstanding clause to ignore any part of the Constitution and therefore the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The federal government can use the War Measures Act to entirely suspend the Constitution. Ultimately I am glad we're having this discussion though because political discourse is fascinating
I enjoy talking about this stuff, but when people bend my words around to make it sound like I said something I didn't, that bothers me. I never aimed anything that I said about what capitalists or what liberals said at you...those were posted just as general statements. Sorry you didn't grasp that. And your opinion of a corporation's fair share of income tax....you'll have to clarify on that because I believe that your opinion of what their "fair share" is probably different from mine...
Concerning my inalienable rights....you are the one who is misleading. Perhaps you need to review your facts a littler better...because my US constitution grants me inalienable rights that my gov't cannot take away. I'm not sure why Canada would be able to take away the rights of their citizens at anytime, but the US gov't grants its citizens rights which no person can legally take away...in this particular case, you are wrong, however this seems to be a common theme for stuff you've posted...
"The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it" - Article 1 Section 9 US constitution.
The above would be considered inalienable as would the right to liberty I believe. It therefore follows that because Japanese Americans were stripped of those rights and others I am sure during WW2 and the law did flinch form that gross violation of so called "inalienable" rights.
Do you understand why that happened though...we've come a long way since then, but even immediately following 9/11, any indian-american or just someone with dark skin was at minimum considered suspect by gov't and the citizens alike. I wasn't alive during WW2 obviously, but I cannot imagine what people thought of asians during WW2...not just Japanese-Americans. All your WW2 examples aside, there still is no argument for why people should be forced to pay for other people's insurance...this is
"and the law did flinch form" should read "and the law did not flinch from..." (continuing from "inalienable rights") than those rights are *not* inalienable because they were repudiated which is directly contrary to their definition.
...healthcare system, I would love to hear some examples of how our healthcare system is failing.
not an inalienable right. There is nothing in the US Constitution about being guaranteed health insurance...and as I said previously, health insurance is an extra safety net that one purchases, it's a luxury, it's not something that our founding fathers promised to the people of this country. No matter how much proponents of Obamacare would insurance to be a God given right...it never will. It would only further financially sink our country into being broke...similar to Canada.
so its a luxury to not die of cancer? its a luxury to receive medical treatment at all? As for the money thing I think it would be reasonable to say that a 1 trillion dollar defence budget would probably drive America further into debt than healthcare spending would in ten years, speaking of which, It would be fairly easy I think to transfer some of the money from the defence budget to the healthcare budget,
firstly the rest of the industrialized world and some of the second and third world countries have universal health-care and their debt doesn't get anywhere close to the US's. Secondly I could just as easily say that the local population is forced to pay your salary that the local population is forced to pay for police departments and fire stations. that they are forced to pay for municipal, state and federal roads (if the US has federal roads) that it is forced to pay for a lot of things
... that the government provides it like defence contracts with profiteers or silly things like the presidential mansion and 1.4 billion dollar planes that crash when they get condensation in flight control sensors
Every single person in the US as it stands right now could walk right into any emergency room and receive treatment...it's a matter of paying for it. Health care in general is so expensive because it costs money to build these machines that save your life, it costs money to run the machines and then to pay the people who run the machines that save your life. The taxes for police/fire/EMS/roads goes to pay for the salary for those workers, however having a police/fire/EMS service is a necessary
evil...though so many don't like police, they sure do seem to call those guys a lot when they have a problem. People use roads all the time to drive on...to help them be free and go where they want...all these things are things that are necessary (to most reasonable people). And for XXLGEMINI...you're so right, health care is one of those items...health insurance is not. Health insurance is not a right, it never was and never should be. Explain to me why I should want to pay for illegal
It's funny to me that people like yourself are okay with assuming whatever is convenient for you. Fact of the matter is a private health insurance system is one that prospers and survives. Again, I do enjoy talking politics, but I'd rather talk politics with someone who is so assuming and definitely someone who isn't willing to post flat out lies about things that are common knowledge...ie: inalienable rights.
Congratulations..... those who filled out the Color of Change petition helped Beck lose 20 sponsors.... Twenty! But Red Lobster is still refusing to drop him. So, google Color of Change, fill out your comments there.... Don't waste them here. And wait for the news, because he WILL lose more before his vacation is over. Color of Change people. It'll be the first link.
Fill it out and pass it to your friends. It has made a difference.
the rushie Great Depression neocons is the obstruction party of NO ... the neocons are mind controlled ditto heads ... the manson family i mean meocon family continue its war on joe sixpac .. medical professionals give up their time to provide free dental & medical care in the 3rd world like quatemala & at the staples center in los angeles, providing free medical & dental to thousands daily .. they will be there a week turning away thousands ... no hatred filled manson hooligans screaming there
You won't here the dems breath a word of truth because power is the cure. They want to control the masses, Teddy Roosevelt first proposed national health insurance in 1912, FDR proposed it again in the 1930s. Harry Truman proposed it again in the 1940s. They've been waiting along time for this progressive power holy grail issue, healthcare is the way to pure Socialism, Reagan was warning of this as far back as the 60s.
Color of Change is asking people to fill out a petition so Beck can lose his sponsors. (He's lost quite a few already. Please look for it and give Beck another bad day at the office.
The American health care system is fucked, and has been for a long time. A for profit system breeds greed, and thats why you have pharmaceutical & insurance companies ripping everyone off.
Canada's system, even with its flaws, is a model that should be at least moved towards. P.S. Glenn Beck is a Mormon douche bag who appeals to the lowest common denominator.
cooldan11 so one situation happens to you and thats your basis for your decision?Im not saying it all doesnt need to be fixed just not the way they want to do it,its crazy.
healthcare in america does suck i havent gone to the docter in 2 years i dont even remember my docters name until i saw him on the news when he was charged with molesting a little kid about a month before my docter was arrested i went to get my check up and get some studies on my blood and the doc told me to come back in 4 days to get my result so i paid 78 dollars out of my pocket and came back and found out that they lost my blood and cant find it and i paid for nothing
Glenn Beck is entirely too one-sided and agenda-driven. He is a fear-mongering propagandist.
Universal healthcare has it's problems and issues, as does what we presently have now, but this guy distorts things and omits a lot of information. Universal healtcare works great in some countries where there isn't enough income or employers to provide healthcare.
All I can say about the behavior of the Republican 'brown shirts' in their rude and obnoxious jeering to prevent any dialogue on health care is that they need to do a 'net search on Rick Scott. Some of these folks are genuinely stupid and uninformed about the folks who are telling them to go out and disrupt town halls. Don't we all deserve a chance to be heard?
chipsshot's reply is just about what I expect from someone who does not know how to express himself in a civilized manner. Too bad that youtube gives folks like him anonymity to express themselves in such a vile manner.
the rushie herbert hoover neocons is the obstruction party of NO .. the neocons are mind controlled mega ditto heads ... something will be done about health care in this country ... it will be done .. what about all the lies that the manson family i mean meocon family puts out there & how their minions repeat the lies word for word .. that the jedi knight obama was born in kenya .. that palin did not walk out on the state of alaska .. that the manson family did not blow up the wtc on 911 .. lies
the rushie herbert hoover neocons is the obstruction party of NO ... the neocons are mind controlled mega ditto heads ... the manson family i mean meocon family insisted the govt should not provide insurance ... that the govt liability insurance for all nuclear power plants and FDIC for banks be stopped immediately ... it was a shock ... so now they are saying that health insurance will be too costly ... but it costs us 2 times more than any one else with poor care ... the money will be found
The free market does not work with health care... why the fuck cant republicans figure that out... it's right in front of there faces and they just refuse to accept it .... Hospitals should be ran JUST like the fire department or police force.... we as a society should never put a price tag on sickness... it's a disgrace to view health care like selling a product ....
the rushie herbert hoover neocons is the obstruction party of NO .. the neocons are mind controlled mega ditto heads ... micheal's right with his manson family i mean meocon family song ... 'all i can say is that they don't really care about us' ... the manson's tell you to keep our health system as is ... that it is right for insurance companies to drastically raise your premiums or drop you when you get really sick ... they can't loose ... it is in consumer reports magazine .. micheal is right
myth busting time: The notion that insurance companies do not want government mandated universal coverage is a myth. I have been in the industry for over 6 years and I can tell you that insurance companies do want it because it means more people paying them and money for them from the government. Henceforth, they stand to earn more money. They media has brainwashed people into thinking that Conservatives are against Univ H-care because they are in the pockets of big insurance. Pure ignorance.
I think the fact that Glenn Beck only talks to people who agree with him shows something about him. What a joke. This guy makes Bill O'Reilly look like a saint.
I bought an HSA plan 3 years ago. Since then, I turned 55. The plan increased 40%. I dropped my plan and bought another HSA plan with a higher deductible and fewer benefits. That plan went up 26% after 6 months. I found yet another HSA plan. It went up 17% 2 months after I applied. Now I'm on my 4th HSA plan.. These plans do not reduce nor contain costs. Rather, you pay for your own care while providing a steadily increasing stream of income to the insurance company.
the rushie neocons are sooo much like killers charlie manson and jefferie dahmer that i confuse the three ... health care ... the worst health care for twice as much as the 2nd most expensive ... diabolical ... like charlie & jefferie ... that's why brad & angelina went to france to have their twins ... nothing but the best ... while the neocons spend $400M for show biz talk shows duping the dopes ... telling you that they need 4 more years ... but they had to knock off russert
All institutions are only as good as the people that run and work in them. A goverment sysytem would not be immune from many of the same quality issues that face private health care. That is not the issue. The problem is cost and access. I am a registered nurse and have seen denial for needed procedures due to cost and I believe that its not right. I have private insurance and have also been without and can attest that something is always better than nothing. I support universal health care.
France! Nothing France has done has ever worked. France's health care doesn't work, there are long lines and waiting lists and the quality of care is worse.
But France is ranked #1 in the world. Even if their long lines, its still free. I do not agree with your assertion the quality of care is worse than ours. That sounds like your opinion.
The World Health Organization ranks France #1. That is a fact.
France is better than the UK, but it still isn't as good as the US. I live near the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I see people coming from all over the world to get health care. There are entire hotels just for people going to the Mayo. I see private 757s from the middle east at the airport. People come to the US for health care because it is the best in the world. Castro went to France, and we haven't seen him since.
you're not wrong that the quality in the US is high, but there's no point in any of that when there are so many who can't afford it and so many insurance companies who won't grant anyone the money for the care they need?! in france and UK you never even have to THINK about having to pay for what you NEED. there are things that the state SHOULD provide to all people - why do you provide free education, but not healthcare, it's ridiculous!
Ok, the state should provide as little as possible. Why? The state will act like any other state and screw it up. A private organization can do it better and less expensive. And the reason why we don't provide 'free' healthcare is this; look at the public schools here. They SUCK!! Do you want your hospital to be run by the same people that run your middle school? No Thank You! Now, we have assistance programs like MediCARE or MedicAID that work, barely (they cost too much).
Also, I don't like the French. They sold Sadaam Hussein a nuclear reactor, which Israel eventually destroyed but they are not a friend of America. Even after we saved their butts in WWII with starting D-Day. I have a favorite quote about france, "Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordian." I just think that France is one of the most useless nations in the world.
denuba, i deal in facts. france is #1 and were #36. that should piss you off not tell me about the mayo clinic. the french live longer lives, has lower infant mortality rates, and dont treat their poor like dirt.
you can sing in the praises of the U.S. on healthcare. its just not factual.
And canada is number 10, but we still spent 3 billion dollar annualy in the US, india and cuba, 3 countries that rank significantly lower than the we do. That US healthcare ranking places greater value on the equality of healthcare than on the quality of it. So if the US provides excellent treatment to most and very good to others, but cuba provides shit treatment to everyone, then cuba will rank higher than the US on this report.
US healthcare is fantastic and with minimal problems. The quality of healthcare here is vastly superior to Canada, Cuba, France and anyone else. Why even talk about it. Why debate healthcare. The US system is exceleent
The point I was making was that if the US wants improve its current system, then it can only do so by innovating a new system from scratch, because no one else comes close.
Whats wrong is excessive government regulation that prevents the comodification of healthcare. Do research on singapore healthcare - amazing system they have!
Hey, how about Japan, they have universal health care and they are doing well. Oh don't forget Taiwan. No really, health care in these countries are way better than U.S.
you're wrong in so many ways. first of all, france IS a friend, to the world! you just don't like them because they're one of those friends who gives you good advice but you're the stubborn kid who won't listen! britain should have listened to france over iraq! france is the true friend, that isn't just a yes man, they genuinely try to show you the RIGHT way. IE - don't invade sovereign nations who never threatened you! hmm, sound familiar?!
That's really not true. Plus doctors have to pay up to six figures in malpractice insurance because lawyers have gutted our healthcare system. And we still have a better healthcare system than anyone else.
As a Canadian living with universal (socialized) healthcare I can tell you that it sucks. The treatment you get is good, but the waiting times are horrible.
Really, as a real Canadian, I can tell you it is a hell lot better than paying for healthcare when we aren't guaranteed coverage. If our system were a free market one, you would be begging for the old system.
But my experience with emergency room visits is ridiculous wait times, only to then be misdiagnosed by the doctor who just wants to get you in and out. You get what you pay for.
It is true, we do pay through our taxes. Yes there is waiting for one good reason. Not because the system does not work but because people abuse it. If we stressed our healthcare to prevention of illness rather than treatment of illness, the system would work. But people would always abuse it. The only reason free market solutions cause little waiting is because people cannot afford to be cure unless it is a dire emergency (That is why some people have medical books in their homes)
yes I'll buy that. On a personal level I did go to the emergency room a few years ago with what turned out to be a broken rib. Waited 4 hours for a doctor to tell me it was just a pulled muscle, without really examining me. 2 weeks later (and in severe pain) my chiropractor (which I pay for out of pocket) X-ray'd me to reveal the break. "You get what you pay for."
I share that, I myself have numerous anxiety problems which has cause lack of sleep and irregular muscle spasms. I can't take medication because I suffer more problems if I take any (same goes for Nyquil). I had the exact opposite situation. I went to a psychiatrist who prescribed me medicine before looking at my file. Ended up worsening my situation until I went to a doctor, at the general hospital. I waited thirty minutes and the examination took just as much time. We all have our own stories.
Private health insurance industry charges 20% for overhead and profit. Medicare charges 3% for overhead. Private health insurance is based on profit, and if they can cheat people out of their claims and get away with, they will. That's the way free market works. There is no incentive for them to be nice and do what they should do. They will just pay more for marketing and sales to drown out the cries of people they ripped off, and hire powerful law firms. The industry is evil beyond pale.
This would be funny if it wasn't so sad. You've obviously never had to deal with government employees, but if the Gov't did take over, not only would you get an uncaring and bureaucratic system, lives will be hurt and lost b/c of it. I don't know about elsewhere, but in the Northeast, government employees are lazy, rude, and incompetent; that is what you will get if you force nationalized health care on everyone w/o options.

Glenn. WTF? Capitalism screwed us already. You want to give them another shot at it?
U.S. citizens need help. Is an HSA going to conveniently have 1 million dollars in it tomorrow to pay for a bypass surgery or cancer treatment. You are right about a lot of things..... but you are friggin clueless when it comes to healthcare. ( How many kickbacks are you getting?)
As someone who has family that lived under communism, I hope you never have to know the pain/frustration that is caused in an society where you get the help you need, when and how much the state decides you will get.
As someone who has family that lived under communism, I hope you never have to know the pain/frustration of living in a country where you get what the state decides when and how much you will get, all at their discretion
Glenn's guest offers an alternative that is worth looking at either on a stand alone basis on in conjunction with other plans. Office visit co-pays do not ruin a family financially, catastrophic care and prolonged hospitalizations add up to insurmountable debt.
Thanks so much for posting this. I missed it. I think this is a great idea. I was just thinking recently that I would like health insurance that was more like care insurance and you get what you need. I think the health savings plans are the way to go in the future.
I have developed a reflex action.
Every time I see Glenn Beck's face I automatically hit the dislike button.

MPArmstrong84 6 months ago
@whothaplaya Socialised medicine costs less.

All who service the people are public servants - Not GOD

breast cancer in public 48%

in public look at canada and england they have rationing. canada has a lottery on who get coverage for that year. public no such thing as rationing. ya we pay for a socialized health care its called medicare and medicade. and kno the goverment dose not pay for our health care by giving them tax breaks or subisidies.

My bill every month is 32 dollars Canadian, which I am happy to pay, whether or not I get sick.
toothfairytats 2 years ago
I don't understand why people keep talking about America like it has a "free market" because it doesn't, it has a mixed market, if it were a free market than there would be "no" government regulation whatsoever (ie: no minimum wage, no price caps, no labor laws of any sort, unions would disappear, no work condition standards and so on) I'd say a truly "free market" would only be good for the ones making all the money

Xookazoid77 2 years ago
the goverment props up the airlines so that we can fly cheap. Beck is preaching to a crowd of very dumb people, the same ones who listen to Rush. They are actually a cult in that they are unable to leave their homes or cars when their 2 gods are on the air. Need de-programmers fast!

nfn4 2 years ago
The FFA only oversees safety in the U.S and Beck says that the government can't be trusted to handle things that the Free Market System can handle... like the incident at Jamestown. Ever heard of Hurricane Katrina? Well FEMA has used about 6 and a half billion dollars trying to "rebuild" New Orleans. Guess where thats gone? Nowhere. On the other hand, immediately after the hurricane private companies donated 1 billion which has helped more than the 6 and a half from FEMA. Thats what he means.
Xookazoid77 2 years ago
The sick uninsured people that ends up competing for a space in the Emergency rooms nationwide, don't they get covered by governmnet run health care? Isn't tax payers picking up the tab for their ER visit and all emergency treatments received, which is the most expensive? You see it take a few loud mouth media people like Glen Beck to fool many. I think if Americans figure stuff out for themselves without being influenced by Idiotic rants form people like Beck the country would be a better place
nfn4 2 years ago
"the sick UNINSURED people that end up competing for a space..." only happens if their covered by Medicare or Medicaid. On the other hand uninsured people get billed for the ER expenses which is the most expensive (besides surgery) and the government doesn't pick up the tab. Though you'll probably be taxed on your next paycheck. And about Beck there's always gonna be two sides to every argument if not there wouldn't be an argument.
Xookazoid77 2 years ago
I believe that because I go to work six days a week and pay , like all Americans , 60% of my income in tax , I should get free health care . We already pay more taxes than any nation in the world over all . The idea that Capitalism will somehow save us from the system it created is ludicrous . Capitalism has become a religion to some people and because of that , they cannot see when it fails . Some things like prisons and health care should not be for profit .
thesepipesRclean 2 years ago
Some things do not fit in to the Free Market system as neatly as others. Health care is one of those items. The element of risk to the consumer is missing in the debate. There is no guarantee in a Free Market system that your insurance provider will be there when you need them. Therefore the Safety Net they refer to in this video is a relative term in a Free Market system.

immigrants to have health insurance and why I should want to fund the killing of unborn children, and then maybe you'll have a viable argument. I work for what I have...I don't ask for anything in return other than the agreed upon amount of compensation...which in my case includes health insurance.
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
Look, I cannot imagine the US government not having some kind of ID requirement for free health care "Every American as it stands could walk into and emergency room and receive treatment" the emergency room can't necessarily save your life. You cannot walk into an emergency room and get cancer treatment should someone (especially if their insurance company claims that they are "too young to have cancer") die of cancer just because they cannot pay for the treatment?
icaru34 2 years ago
That's the only REAL argument supporting Health Care Reform. I think if you need surgery for cancer and you can't afford it the government should pick up the tab

As for the abortion thing , well, I was always under the impression that women had rights. I of course think they should consider putting their kids up for adoption if they cannot afford to give them a good life (I myself was adopted from Russia and feel that I am very lucky to live in Canada) however, I refuse to believe that in a democratic society we should be permitted to decide for a woman what she does with her body especially if her pregnancy was borne of violence or coercion.
icaru34 2 years ago
Immigrants do not have abortions....we fund their delivery in the hospital...what we call 'drop-ins'. It is the working women and girls whose family does not want them to have a child who have abortions.

Bottom line remains that all these libs out there want people who work for a living, and save their money, and act responsibly, to donate money to them in yet another government funded charity program. Let's see...welfare is certainly a banner program, social security is nearing the finish line of failure...how else can we piss money away and keep all the boozers/drug addicts/moochers of this nation happy? I know, let's reach into the pockets of responsible people and rob them blind!
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
see therein lies the difference between you and I; I have no problem whatsoever with a portion of my taxes going towards helping people yet I save my money, I don't work for a living since I have to go to school still but when I do I would much rather that a portion of that money go to paying for people's health insurance and for their houses (You have a legally protected right to a house here in Canada, if you don't have a house (or an apartment, I assume) you just have to fill out the right..

I believe all too often, people view captialists as evil, money hungry, greedy people who are out for their own well being. harder to ensure people have things called morals and ethics. I fail to see how anyone could deem it an immoral or unethical notion that people should have to pay for their own insurance...health, car, home, whatever. many of them do not work for it and those who do work should be required to pick up that bill. And as far as you and I go, let me clarify this. You do not know me...so do not make statements based on assumptions concerning where I would prefer my tax dollars go. I will not apologize for the fact that I feel I am entitled to the money which I work very hard for, nor will I apologize for not wanting to fund a program that will medically insure illegal immigrants or abort children.
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
I concede that I did assume that you didn't want your taxes going towards health care, which was impolite; however, you did confirm that assumption. Now, as for the illegal immigrant "problem" in Ontario you have to apply for an OHIP card using two pieces of photo identification that prove that you are a Canadian citizen. As for the "capitalists are evil" thing I'm not sure where I implied that, I simply noted that large corporations most likely do not pay their fair share of income tax
icaru34 2 years ago
Concerning your photo ID comment, that's not the way that Obamacare is said to work. Illegals are just going to have free health care...remember we're talking about the US health insurance issue, not Canada's failing health program. I never said you said anything about paying for anyone else's car insurance or home, but you did make the comment that in Canada...you're glad that your money goes to help people have health insurance and to house them as well...it wouldn't surprise if Obama tried
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
My intention really was to state my position on universal health care. That position of course is that I have no problem with my tax dollars (currently only in the form of GST and PST) going towards helping those less fortunate than me. I never even suggested people should have their cars or homes paid for. I said that I have no problem with my tax dollars going towards health care and housing those who cannot do so themselves. As for social program, I don't know about America's but ours work
icaru34 2 years ago
to make us pay for everyone to have a house next.

As for "inalienable" rights, well thats just misleading, neither Canadian nor US citizens have inalienable rights, In the US you have the Patriot Act as well as some other law that allowed the US to strip Japanese Americans of their so
icaru34 2 years ago
called inalienable rights during World War II. Ultimately I am glad we're having this discussion though because political discourse is fascinating
icaru34 2 years ago
I enjoy talking about this stuff, but when people bend my words around to make it sound like I said something I didn't, that bothers me. I never aimed anything that I said about what capitalists or what liberals said at you...those were posted just as general statements. Sorry you didn't grasp that. And your opinion of a corporation's fair share of income tax....you'll have to clarify on that because I believe that your opinion of what their "fair share" is probably different from mine...
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
Concerning my inalienable rights....you are the one who is misleading. Perhaps you need to review your facts a littler better...because my US constitution grants me inalienable rights that my gov't cannot take away. I'm not sure why Canada would be able to take away the rights of their citizens at anytime, but the US gov't grants its citizens rights which no person can legally take away...in this particular case, you are wrong, however this seems to be a common theme for stuff you've posted...
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
"The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it" - Article 1 Section 9 US constitution.
The above would be considered inalienable as would the right to liberty I believe. It therefore follows that because Japanese Americans were stripped of those rights and others I am sure during WW2 and the law did flinch form that gross violation of so called "inalienable" rights.
As for "Canada's failing...
icaru34 2 years ago
Do you understand why that happened though...we've come a long way since then, but even immediately following 9/11, any indian-american or just someone with dark skin was at minimum considered suspect by gov't and the citizens alike. I wasn't alive during WW2 obviously, but I cannot imagine what people thought of asians during WW2...not just Japanese-Americans. All your WW2 examples aside, there still is no argument for why people should be forced to pay for other people's insurance...this is
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
"and the law did flinch form" should read "and the law did not flinch from..." (continuing from "inalienable rights") than those rights are *not* inalienable because they were repudiated which is directly contrary to their definition.
...healthcare system, I would love to hear some examples of how our healthcare system is failing.
icaru34 2 years ago
not an inalienable right. It would only further financially sink our country into being broke...similar to Canada.
bleedinbluno2 2 years ago
so its a luxury to not die of cancer? its a luxury to receive medical treatment at all? As for the money thing I think it would be reasonable to say that a 1 trillion dollar defence budget would probably drive America further into debt than healthcare spending would in ten years, speaking of which, It would be fairly easy I think to transfer some of the money from the defence budget to the healthcare budget,
icaru34 2 years ago
firstly the rest of the industrialized world and some of the second and third world countries have universal health-care and their debt doesn't get anywhere close to the US's. Secondly I could just as easily say that the local population is forced to pay your salary that the local population is forced to pay for police departments and fire stations. that they are forced to pay for municipal, state and federal roads (if the US has federal roads) that it is forced to pay for a lot of things

The free market does not work with health care... why the fuck cant republicans figure that out... it's right in front of there faces and they just refuse to accept it .... Hospitals should be ran JUST like the fire department or police force.... we as a society should never put a price tag on sickness... it's a disgrace to view health care like selling a product ....

myth busting time: The notion that insurance companies do not want government mandated universal coverage is a myth.

And that rediculous assertion is based on...what exactly?
History has shown COUNTLESS times that socialsim causes poverty and starvation.
It's sad that, unfortunatly, ppl just can't learn from history.

There are programs that help people that arent the government you idiot: non-profit organizations, soup kitchens, churches.

I support universal health care.

why does universal health care work in France
19770326 3 years ago
France! Nothing France has done has ever worked. France's health care doesn't work, there are long lines and waiting lists and the quality of care is worse.
Denuba90 3 years ago
Im sorry Denuba90.
But France is ranked #1 in the world. Even if their long lines, its still free. I do not agree with your assertion the quality of care is worse than ours. That sounds like your opinion.
The World Health Organization ranks France #1. That is a fact.
19770326 3 years ago
France is better than the UK, but it still isn't as good as the US. I live near the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I see people coming from all over the world to get health care. There are entire hotels just for people going to the Mayo. I see private 757s from the middle east at the airport. People come to the US for health care because it is the best in the world. Castro went to France, and we haven't seen him since.
Denuba90 3 years ago
you're not wrong that the quality in the US is high, but there's no point in any of that when there are so many who can't afford it and so many insurance companies who won't grant anyone the money for the care they need?! in france and UK you never even have to THINK about having to pay for what you NEED. there are things that the state SHOULD provide to all people - why do you provide free education, but not healthcare, it's ridiculous!
lichenxu123 3 years ago
Ok, the state should provide as little as possible. Why? The state will act like any other state and screw it up. A private organization can do it better and less expensive. And the reason why we don't provide 'free' healthcare is this; look at the public schools here. They SUCK!! Do you want your hospital to be run by the same people that run your middle school? No Thank You! Now, we have assistance programs like MediCARE or MedicAID that work, barely (they cost too much).
Denuba90 3 years ago
Also, I don't like the French. They sold Sadaam Hussein a nuclear reactor, which Israel eventually destroyed but they are not a friend of America. Even after we saved their butts in WWII with starting D-Day. I have a favorite quote about france, "Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordian." I just think that France is one of the most useless nations in the world.
Denuba90 3 years ago
denuba, i deal in facts. france is #1 and were #36. that should piss you off not tell me about the mayo clinic. the french live longer lives, has lower infant mortality rates, and dont treat their poor like dirt.
you can sing in the praises of the U.S. on healthcare. its just not factual.
19770326 3 years ago
And canada is number 10, but we still spent 3 billion dollar annualy in the US, india and cuba, 3 countries that rank significantly lower than the we do. That US healthcare ranking places greater value on the equality of healthcare than on the quality of it. So if the US provides excellent treatment to most and very good to others, but cuba provides shit treatment to everyone, then cuba will rank higher than the US on this report.
hara001 3 years ago
ok hara001
US healthcare is fantastic and with minimal problems. The quality of healthcare here is vastly superior to Canada, Cuba, France and anyone else. Why even talk about it. Why debate healthcare. The US system is exceleent
isn't it?
19770326 3 years ago
The point I was making was that if the US wants improve its current system, then it can only do so by innovating a new system from scratch, because no one else comes close.
hara001 3 years ago
Whats wrong with the current system?
19770326 3 years ago
Whats wrong is excessive government regulation that prevents the comodification of healthcare. Do research on singapore healthcare - amazing system they have!

you're wrong in so many ways. first of all, france IS a friend, to the world! you just don't like them because they're one of those friends who gives you good advice but you're the stubborn kid who won't listen! britain should have listened to france over iraq! france is the true friend, that isn't just a yes man, they genuinely try to show you the RIGHT way. IE - don't invade sovereign nations who never threatened you! hmm, sound familiar?!

That's really not true. Plus doctors have to pay up to six figures in malpractice insurance because lawyers have gutted our healthcare system. And we still have a better healthcare system than anyone else.
fourlayers 3 years ago
As a Canadian living with universal (socialized) healthcare I can tell you that it sucks. The treatment you get is good, but the waiting times are horrible.
Hydrocram 3 years ago
Really, as a real Canadian, I can tell you it is a hell lot better than paying for healthcare when we aren't guaranteed coverage. If our system were a free market one, you would be begging for the old system.
snipzor 3 years ago
but we do pay for healthcare....in taxes.
But my experience with emergency room visits is ridiculous wait times, only to then be misdiagnosed by the doctor who just wants to get you in and out. You get what you pay for.
Hydrocram 3 years ago
It is true, we do pay through our taxes. Yes there is waiting for one good reason. Not because the system does not work but because people abuse it. If we stressed our healthcare to prevention of illness rather than treatment of illness, the system would work. But people would always abuse it. The only reason free market solutions cause little waiting is because people cannot afford to be cure unless it is a dire emergency (That is why some people have medical books in their homes)
snipzor 3 years ago
yes I'll buy that.
Hydrocram 3 years ago
I share that, I myself have numerous anxiety problems which has cause lack of sleep and irregular muscle spasms. I can't take medication because I suffer more problems if I take any (same goes for Nyquil). I had the exact opposite situation. I went to a psychiatrist who prescribed me medicine before looking at my file. Ended up worsening my situation until I went to a doctor, at the general hospital. I waited thirty minutes and the examination took just as much time. We all have our own stories.

I find it interesting that for Health Care we aren't supposed to trust the government but for decisions on going to war and other bullshit we are?
jdbohdan 3 years ago
it's because that is what a government is suppose to do. It says so in the Constitution.
mthwiz99 3 years ago
Private health insurance industry charges 20% for overhead and profit. Medicare charges 3% for overhead. Private health insurance is based on profit, and if they can cheat people out of their claims and get away with, they will. That's the way free market works. There is no incentive for them to be nice and do what they should do. They will just pay more for marketing and sales to drown out the cries of people they ripped off, and hire powerful law firms. The industry is evil beyond pale.
padraicbg 4 years ago

P.S. I do have insurance and I do have a job.
