I forgot about this tune. This is the kind of song I like to hear show up on the radio about once a year, like it does. It’s funny how the singer has a full blown stache going on here.
What's with the crazy lack of Youtube views? I remember the first time I saw/heard this. The blue background and the throwback aesthetic. I was instantly hooked. Thankfully Twice Removed did not disappoint one bit.
first time i saw sloan was 96 at le rendezvous in winnipeg - they all had flu and there was some serious stage barf - but we all chatted about creation records and our love of the brits
@timmyboy1970 Twice Removed is NOWHERE NEAR Neil Young's music and not even close! The Bass player is a fucking nimrod who really loves himself excessively!
@metalslut1 I play hockey with Chris - one of the funniest, down to earth guys i've ever known. So, Metal Slut (ahaha) in 2007, 600 music journalists, retailers, musicians and disc jockeys of all ages, from all parts of Canada submitted a list of 10 favourite Canadian albums released between 1957 and 2007. Guess what? Sloan's Twice Removed at #14.
Back to your Nickelback collection now Metal Slut.
@Haloplayer20 "for me" is always the operative phrase in music my friend. I grew up listening to Rush and learning guitar with Rush but as I grew older my interest in them dwindled. I loved watching 'Beyond the Lighted Stage' though and did throw in Farewell to Kings several times.......so, you know what they say, "plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose" haha.
@leftwingrightwing well I do think Billy Talent, Metric, Tegan/Sara...are holdin their own for the current time - 3 days grace writes good songs too...I'm not mad at the new breed - but Sloan definitely should be putting out material more often
I always thought they were referring to Nirvana. The band was allowed to read through fan mail sent to Nirvana (thus 'Penpals'), while they were signed to Geffen.
Also, I can't find any records of this but I've got this memory of Courtney Love at the time saying something like "It's not the band I hate, it's their fans" in the time following Cobain's death.
The song also fits Lennon's death. Both losses deeply hit the music scene at their respective eras.
lol well i know that their big fans of the beatles and the lyrics it all seemed to happen so fast - the news of his death spread fast. Will you ever believe the way he passed away - he was murderd my a duranged fan.
I saw his widow speak on her fortune - yoko ono made a public announce ment the next day.
He's referring to the band Consolidated and their fans. Consolidated was an anti-consumerist socialist group, so he's asking if he can still think the band is ok even though he drinks concentrated OJ.
If I recall, Chris once said this song was a wordplay exercise, not a narrative. I'd agree with that.
i like this explination... sounds like something chris would write... i dont think chris would ever write about john lennon. PS they all dug the stones more than the beatles.
I heard this on the radio, and it's been driving me crazy trying to find out the bad. When I found out it was Slone, I was just like NO WAY! I can't get enough of this song. LOVE IT! And yes, I also drink concentrated OJ. :)

If I drink concentrated OJ
Can I think Consolidated's OK?
It's not the band I hate
It's their fans
Three cans of whatever irks me
Consolidated is a band. They are strong social commentators on topics such as vegetarianism, animal rights, corporate america, consumerism, etc...
Their fans have a tendency to further try to push the band's ideas, often in an obnoxious way, hence "It's not the band I hate, it's their fans".

he actually says "three cans of water provokes me".. like when you make a can of "concentrated OJ"
