  • how is it possible for someone to dislike this?

  • Great, great song.

  • One of the 10 greatest songs in rock history !

  • The Film Noir of rock n roll

  • That album was a flawed masterpiece. I'm glad he started playing some of those songs again, especially Kitty's Back, before it was too late.

  • if you could bottle the energy @ 8:58 you won't need oil, wind or solar!

  • One of my favourite Bruce tracks. Saw him do it in Barcelona on the Rising tour, just him on the piano and it was absolutely magical. Not ashamed to say i had tears in my eyes at one point during the song.

  • the crowd at this show was amazing.. Bruce shows: some of the most exhilarating times of my life... easily.

  • This is absolutely one of bruce's BEST songs ever! I re-discovered this song in a Live version on a Japanese Import CD and it always gives me the chills when I hear it. I think as difficult as it is to put feelings into words when describing why this song and Bruce moves your Soul, is to say that Bruce's best songs like this, Thunder Road, Jungleland, Born to Run, etc. are like short films with a powerful and engaging beginning, climax and resolution all within a short song structure. Poetry!

  • @borntorun1970 i have that same import cd i think...it has tougher than the rest on it i believe...the incident thats on that cd is from 1980 at nassau coliseum around new years...the new years show he did there that year was his longest show ever, clocking in at over 4 hours. He pretty much played every song he knew that night

  • La canción perfecta de un genio descomunal e irrepetible.

  • This song has passed 300 on my ipod counter. I had my ipod just less than one year.

  • i think the greats are probably a little jealous of our bruce on the quiet!!!

  • i think all the greats of music are probably a little jealous our bruce on the quiet!!!!

  • I've seen him six times and yet to hear this song live. He's the man!

  • class!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • absolutely brilliant. i hope one day ill get to see this live. that would mean i would have seen all of my top 5 bruce songs live. thunder road, jungleland, incident, backstreets, and bobby jean

  • Yes, the all Bruce all the time gets ... well if you look at my play list wow I need to pay more attention to the talent behind the man...

  • I get gooseups/Jag får kalla kårar/Saan kylmiä väreitä.

  • This one has always reminded me of Jungleland. It's so elegant...

  • Climax of this makes my hairs stand up on my neck every time

    best Bruce live performance ever????

  • Brilliant, it just doesn't get better than this

  • Bruce Frederick Joseph, I have heard all your songs. But the epitome of perfection is this and it is one of your best works you have done in your life. I am forever grateful. In my humble sincere opinion.

  • the audience is going crazy. it had the privilege to listen to rarities in the very few -3- springsteen concerts i've attended, but this would be the best for me. lucky the ones who were there. his best song, possibly.

  • highlight of an amazing set at Hampden, Glasgow. THE BOSS!!

  • I agree - was amazing. I met the guys outside in the day preparing the banner was pretty sure he'd play when he seen the size of the banner. Great Day - best Bruce show yet. Have a look at my video of Working on the Highway.

  • you know whats weird? i have this on a CD. i mean THIS ACTUAl performance. my dads friend made it... i recognize the "Have something special for the New yorkers out there" as well as the inflections in the lines...weird...

anywho, possibly the greatest song ever...

  • Yup.

Amazingly, he didn't play it for 19 years, from 1980, until 9/25/99, earlier on the Reunion Tour, when he opened with it.

How it is it possible to have this masterpiece and let it sit on the shelf for 19 years? Obviously he wrote a few pretty decent songs *to* play during this period, but still...

Is there anyone else with such a great song they could or would ignore? I rank Incident with Like a Rolling Stone, and you'll never see Bob without performing his signature rock song.

  • That version in Philly kicks ass.

  • It is incredible. It's an anthem that would have fit a stadium show. I love the way people slowly pick-up what song he's playing and the aduience get's louder and louder, and by the end everyone is singing alone to the chorus - then two minutes of an almosy heavy metal, instrumental ending.

  • What a great comment.

Yeah this is a true anthem. You can't help but sing along.

  • i will see him in dublin and carhaix! i hope for 3 great jour!

  • going to see him at hampden in 3 weeks can't wait yaaaaaaaaaaasssss!!!!!

  • Can you believe he played this?! What a gig hampden was!

  • amazing! mind you the sign was fuckin huge lol!!

  • This was the June 22nd show, right?

  • why isnt this on the dvd or cd

  • this is a great video on youtube,

this deserves at least another 500,00 views.

    a gem of a song

one of the absolute best, the crowd can't beleave their luck.

    a great ,great song

  • i love the way gary tallent stands behind bruce. he has the same pose every time. lol.

  • sometimes if you watch it seems like Steve and Garry try to get a laugh out of each other. I don't think Garry gets enough credit.

  • see above)

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Talent a few weeks ago. He's a very humble, quiet and unassuming man. Extremely polite and personable. Needless to say I will never forget it!

  • All of his crowds are into it, but the NY, NJ and Philly crowds recite the words to this, 20,000 strong. They don't do that in Stockholm.

  • Thats for sure! And a k,ot of them crying including myself. I guess the fans like NJ,NY And Philly know or experience what went on in those days!

  • You are so right bro. After 15 yrs I finally heard this at a Philly concert a few yrs ago. It was incredibly emotional. These words got me through my youth and some tough times.

  • Hey by the way brother...I'M a sister.

Sisters run those streets just as fast and hard as the Brothers can!

But I think you would understand that given we understand and love the song so much! SPIRIT TO SPIRIT!

  • I meant to send that prior post to you b/c judging by your great response I know you'd appreciate it more. We are the legion that got this guy to the top. The beauty is, he's never forgotten that.

  • Comment removed

  • there is no one compared to Bruce <3 no words enough.

  • I hope the band plays this song on the new tour.

  • Bruce has been throwing in something different but if he will do it this time around it will be in NY oir NJ

  • i love this song

  • I wish they would show the band.

Always loved the way Danny moved his head around like a cobra.

  • i miss danny

  • I think I have said this before, but this is simply my favorite Bruce video on Youtube. Great song, great performance, coupled with the fact that the audio picks up just enough of the crowd to hear the sing-along part of the song. It gives me goose bumps.

  • it's definitely a great one but watch some videos when he plays it in 1978....he played probably his best concerts in that years (roxy, passaic, winterland....)

  • largo also

  • this is an amazing performance, the crowd were very lucky, even blessed to witness one of the best songs in history.BRILLIANT!!

  • I get chills listening to this song - AWESOME!!

  • the crowd response is AMAZING. freaking love it. and the track sounds great. thanks for sharing this.

  • Breathtaking. thanks Bruce

  • absolutely perfect

  • amazing

i pray he closes out yankee stadium so i can see him before he closes out the tour

  • Amazing :=)

  • Thank you so much for posting this awesome song. One of his absolute best. Cheers from San Francisco.

  • unbelievable performance .....boss all the way..10/10

  • Bruce doesn't emote when he sings the way he used to. But he is still rock's most underrated guitarist.

  • MORE THEN AWESOME!!

    THANKS BRUCE!

  • I was there... probably right around where the camera is... what a show.

  • remember when i got the record ace

  • nice thank you

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!

  • UNBE"LIVE"BLE!!

  • great! thanks!

  • absolutely spectacular... unbelievable performance

  • Nothing to say about this!!! What a great performance by a great singer and the band!!!

  • The energy from the crowd is amazing in this video. When he played that song in toronto i didn't have the best seats so everyone around me wasn't that into it,i even got asked to sit down by an snoby lady behind me, but i still had a great time listening to a great song. A concert is so much better when the crowd is into it as much as bruce. And for that snoby lady, springsteen shows are a party so if you want to sit there and tell people off, then you are far from a fan.

  • I put up clips of Incident from the show I saw in TO this year. Nothing was going to get me to sit down. The people around me were really into it too...amazing experience!

  • You can say that again - I haven't paid thousands of dollars over the years to see Bruce and sit down. People like that need to stay home!

  • Got to be the best hope he plays it in London

  • clearly the most underplayed of springsteen songs.

    brilliant brilliant brilliant!!!

  • got to agree with tocommuter

  • Every time I hear this song played live it kills me when it does not go directly into Rosalita. It's gotta be tempting. Bruce, just once on this tour do an Incident/Rosalita segue!

  • can somebody please explain how anybody is meant to stay quiet during the intro to to end of this song, - superb!!

  • High177....I agree totally with you. I was at this concert with 5 other die-hards and when we heard the opening notes there was no way that we/the crowd was keeping quiet. I've seen them 18 times over the last 20 years and that was the first time I heard them play Incident, so in repsonse to those Californians asking for us to shut up..HELL NO...Oh and BTW...we, the crowd are supposed to sing along with him on this one.

  • Completely agree. Just saw him tonight in Toronto and he sang it again..the full band version. I consider myself very lucky that I've heard this song twice out of 4 concerts I've been too...once acoustic, once full band. Can die happy now. Will post clips from the show soon.

  • Got to agree with the Bruce posse here; he's not done Incident alot so it was a real treat to hear him do it in Toronto on the Magic tour. It's one of my all-time favourites and you can be sure it'll be one of the tracks playing on the way down to the Cleveland and Detroit shows next wk (so that I'll know all the words next time and won't have to scream so much....!)

  • -> Your mission, should you choose to accept it: throw yourself into the show as much as the rest of us so that we collectively achieve our objective sooner, ie. the smile on Bruce's face when he realizes he has the house in the palm of his hand and he upps the ante and drives the performance to an even higher level!

  • @markob200 I just saw your comment...I know a long time ago. I too am a diehard fan and have seen him over 18 times since 19708....there is NO WAY to shut up at a Bruce concert...If you see him alone....he has a hard time keeping us all quiet when he wants us to be!!! That is just the way it is...Great song here...like the rest :)

  • Why can't the crowd shut up and just let Bruce sing this? Isn't that why they're there, to hear HIM sing it?

    Great, by the way.

  • This is a song he'd played only a few times in the last 20 years. Bruce loves energy of crowds and feeds off it.

I think you're asking a lot for crowd to be quiet here. For benefit of eventual boots? I was there and could hear the band fine. To be honest, I can hear the sound fine on this too.

Think he'd be playing it as often as he is now if crowd was silent during this one?

If you were 18 again and saw your "future self" write what you did, I think you'd want to crawl under a rock.

  • You're kidding, right? The fact that this crowd is with him all the way, singing along with a song that was written before many of them were born, is part of the magic of the performance.

  • impressionant,una gran cançò,de les millors d'en Bruce

  • holy %#%&/ this is a masterpiece !

  • Love it so much, but hate people screaming when he is singing. Singing along - yes. Screaming when Roy played the initial few notes - totally understandable. Other screaming is just wrong. Guitar just rocks.

  • totally agree with you, one of my pet peeves, the crowds in the San Francisco area are so good, they never do that shit

  • Dear god let them play this either show in Philly or the second night in Jersey, Please god?

  • I.was.there

    Have not seen this clip

    Ever

    Holy sh..........

  • 12th row center... from the opening notes, all the true fans in the building knew we'd never forget the next 10 minutes of our lives. It was a joyous pandemonium, and Bruce picked up on it.

    There are no words.

Fniazi, please monitor this clip closely. If youtube bans it (again), pleeease get it right back up there under a different name. All music fans should get to see this, forever.

  • Yea I will...this is the 2nd time I've uploaded it. :)

  • You are the man... thanks for all your clips!

  • unbelievable - hopefully be seen on the magic tour!!!

  • I was there that night. I saw the face of God.

  • My gawd, is there a person in the building who is not singing along. Seeing this live, especially from up close, would be one of life's grandest experiences. Maybe one day...

  • rumor has it - new album Oct 1 and then final tour of BS and the ESB. THIS song kills me. everytime... Bill

  • What fantastic guitar!!!

  • Very nice, but of all the times I've seen Bruce (including in NYC) my favorite is still in 70's right after Wild And The Innocent and before he bacame "known" with Born To Run. Felt special to us early fans, right?

  • Simply the best Bruce video on Youtube!

  • amazing performance...thankyou soooo much

  • Thankgoodness for youtube. Have only seen Bruce four times here in Australia (it sux living in a backwater) and he never played 57th St here. Oh you lucky yanks and Europeans. 'Our' Bruce is Jimmy Barnes from Cold Chisel, but Bruce rules.

  • I hope to God Bruce comes back here. I really, really do. I'm a die hard but still yet to see him :(

  • it colud be on DVD live in NY

  • one of my favourite Springsteen songs,Boss u are the one

  • wow ..first time i've seen this performed live.

thanks so much for putting it on.

  • Fantastic. Wonderful. I have never seen anything like this.

  • roll on the fall 2007 - e streeters rocking again for one last time - PERFECTION MASTERED!

  • GREAT song; unfortunately it didn't get much air play when it came out on vinyl in 1974. He & the band always put on a very energetic performance. I draw a lot of energy from his music!!! Bruuuuuuce.......

  • 1973. Until Born in the USA in 1984 he never received much radio play, with the exception of a couple from Born to Run, but even then the greatest songs, Backsreets & Jungleland were rarely played.

  • It came out in 1973, 2nd album, "The Wild, the Innocent, & the E-Street Shuffle." He didn't play it for 19 years, from 1980 until 1999, earlier in this same (Reunion) tour. It's a masterpiece. With Dylan and McCartney, he's one of the world's three greatest living songwriters, and the best performer in Rock history.

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA I agree. But I wouldnt put McCartney up there as far as songwriting goes. Paul's a great performer and is a "legend", but his writing is nowhere near Bruce and Bob.

  • @TheGregory99 You won't find many bigger Springsteen fans than - 59 shows since 9/30/788.

But seriously, how familiar are you with the Beatles complete catalog, and McCartney's contribution to it, E.G., Here, There, and Everywhere; Michelle; I've Just Seen a Face; I'm Looking Through You; I'll Follow the Sun Back in the USSR, Helter Skelter; Sgt. Peppers; Let It Be; Hey Jude; Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight - to scratch the surface.

Granted, his post Beatles efforts have been less impressive

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA paul repeats himself too much. I know the Beatles as well as I know Bruce. Paul's greats I can count on one hand...Lovely Rita, for No One, Hey Jude. Everything else is average at best. Springsteen's songs are relative to me. Lennon was a much better songwriter than sir Paul. Too bad we only got him till he was forty...imho

  • would have done anything to be there, nobody comes close what a legend what a band

  • I was there and I´ll never forget the moment Roy began to play the intro.

  • I was there as well, Dennis, and will never forget the moment either.

  • what a special moment! and a great performance.

  • and nice to see silvio alive.

  • the most under appreciated song in the entire bruce catalog. an absolute gem

  • Exaclty and one of the rarest to see live.

  • Nothing of his since has measured up to this song and this album.

  • Specific to this song, nor has anything from anyone else ever.

  • Chills!

  • just perfect. Thanks.

  • Perfection. Good choice of words.

  • oh my god! one of his best...

  • Encara m'emociona escoltar aquesta cançó

    Totalment orgàsmica

No words to describe my deep feeling for this song
