@wiidiwii I don't think anyone is...art is very subjective to say that. Technique or spirit? What are we judging here. I love Broms works a lot as well for example.
@jam24ux Damn right!!!! I am 42 and I have been following his work since 1975. Frank was and still is, THE GODFATHER, THE GRANDMASTER AND THE MAESTRO OF FANTASY ART!
@pgf95 I put Frazetta on a Michelangelo level myself, both artists had an understanding of anatomy that was in a class of its own. Da Vinci was someone I would no more compare Frazetta to than I would compare him to Picasso or Otto Dix, Robert Crumb, or the impressionists, completely different art styles.
He is one of the main reasons why I do what I do....I've loved his work since I first picked up a Conan Paperback....I love his work and try to draw from it every time I pick up a pencil, pen, or paintbrush,
My dad was friends with Frank and his family, and I remember going to his estate as a kid, meeting the master himself, and hanging around his museum with his wife, Ellie, just looking at his stuff. And what stuff it was. RIP Frank, thanks for being such a good friend. And that's one hell of a lake you have in your front lawn, too. Say hi to Ellie for me, she's there with you now.
Yeah, no CGI, ever, can top the work this man did. I mean, since I was a child, his work gave me such an emotional impact on all kinds of levels, still does. I hadn't known of his passing, his work has a life of its own, it will carry his spirit. Thank you Mr. Frazetta for the inspiration.
I was in a bookstore, maybe about twelve years old, when i saw the cover on a paperback book that stopped me in my tracks. There was something about the power of the image that had me rivited. I bought the book because I liked the cover. The book was about some ancient warrior called Conan. That incident made me a Conan fan as a kid, and a Frazetta fan for life. R.I.P. Frank.
Frank Frazetta was as much a badass in real life as the characters in his paintings. he was the GREATEST fantasy artists of all time, and every working artist or illustrator today owes him a huge debt. NO ONE will ever come close to his raw talent or ability.
truly an inspiration and master of his craft...one of the greatest painters of the 20th century..a huge loss to the art world..RIP Frank, you live on in your artwork forever
May he go to a better world where the plains are vast, jewels to steal a-plenty, and enemies and monsters fall at his feet, as well as the beautiful women... Another of great heroes of our youth passes... :'(((
Jackson, Milius, Miller and Cameron still haven't touched the cinematic splendor of this man's work and probably no one ever will. RIP to the goddamn legend.
Jackson, Milius, Miller and Cameron still haven't touched the cinematic splendor of this man's work and he never laid a hand on camera. RIP to the goddamn legend.
A sad day indeed, for the loss of the Great Frank Frazetta, but also a time to celebrate his long life and monumental body of work as his great legacy to the world. We'll miss you, Frank!
All joking aside, the main stream art world discovered comic artists too late. How can they understand Frazetta without the context of EC and the impact of Wally Wood and others? What do they know about Alex Nino, BWS and Jeff Jones?
i love this documentary,,,it's a must-see for Frazetta fans. I watched it over a year ago on IFC and am glad i recorded it. thank you for the posting, cinemachine. in2theabyss and i were just discussing this docu a few hours ago. ( i knew you'd like it in2:)) . warduke just took the words right out of my mouth...Frazetta's works are magical!
I have admired and worshipped Frank Frazetta as my favorite fantasy artist since I was 6 years old. His museum was temporarily here in Florida but sadly Mr. Frazetta moved back to Stroudsberg, Philadelphia and took his paintings with him and opened up an even better museum...I hope to go visit it soon!
@in2theabyss17 My parents lived in Stroudsburg and find it difficult to believe that any artist with this exciting creativity would choose to live in such a dead boring place.
He must live inside his imagination and not Stroudsburg.
@mrmolinodelahoz Well, he said he wanted to take it to the p[lace where he raised his kids. He has always owned property there but I guess he saw fit to make his museum in that special place. Yeah, the museum was here in Florida temporarily while he was having the new one built in Stroudsberg. Maybe he does live in his imagination. Alot is going on being that his wife just died in July 2009 and his son Frank Jr just broke into the museum with a backhoe and tried to take 90 paintings.
The great thing about Frank Frezetta was he never wrote thought provoking books, never did anything musical or was never the leader of a country or anything like that. Yet I've been inspired by Frezetta paintings all my life since I was a kid to always achieve the highest goals in my personal life. Whatever it's a physical, mental, or spiritual goal his paintings always motivated me in a way that words or deeds could not. There's just something magical about his work!
...-UUUFFF!!!!... Este documental es digno del máximo artista del genero fantástico, este hombre es una leyenda... que gran video, muy épica y emocionante la presentación!!!..
Hands down the greatest illustrator of all-time. Breathtaking paintings all from his imagination. He had the unbelievable desire to learn and became a god. Such an inspiration to me as an artist.
There is one Simon The Biz Jaguar God Oil where his blue artery in his chest is so damn cool ! That painting looks like Frazetta did that piece. It is so good. Mike Hoffman is my favorite Frazetta Stylist. I have his "Swinging Dealer" Dealer has the high ground and a goon get his head chopped off pencil $300 ebay free shipping !! Bitching cool ass!!!!! The Onearmbiker knows the shit!!! 420
He's a traditional artist and did a lot of work back in the 70's.
The guy is a savant, and just pwned the entire fantasy art scene. He's the guy who made conan who he is. Great fucking artist and an inspiration to most illustrators.
He was born 1928. Comic Artist at age 16, first in America. Walked with holes in his shoes in the early 60's no one would hire him, his art too old fashion. America would not know real at if it bit them in the ass. He paints his best painting at age 81 left handed after a many stokes. Computer bullshit my ass , you must of grown up on Pokemon ! 420 His Grandson Jacob ,The Frazetta Prince is working his ass off the be the man like Gramps ! His only Jesus art in this video , awsome. 420
Only God is a better artist! God was the first artist, everyone else in a copy cat. Fire and Ice is the best cartoon ever. The Vegas painting, not my favorite subject. It shows the best of his ability. Perfict, it should be used in the Vegas Commercials! I love the ones were his paints as fast as he can shake a stick. The neanderthauls , Wizard and the demon, there is on Dracular paint done super fast. WOW!!!!
I've bought the DVD of Painting With Fire love it, I really want to see the Frazetta museum sometime, I wish they could set up some kind of exibit at this years
New York Comicon being as it's just across the state line in Pennsylvania, Wishful thinking I guess.
Frank Jr. is a lazy ass piece of shit coward. A lazy ass golf pro. Frazetta said Frank Jr. had the gift. Frank Jr.'s art is beautiful. Too fucking lazy/dumn ass. They would not have shit if it was not for Miss Ellie. Frazetta is a stupid business man, but the greatest artist that ever breathe air. That's what I learned from this video. Buy it today! Buy Frazetta prints. Support Frazetta! Frank Jr. could of been a college art professor and subduce all the girls, what a loser! Art knowledge gone!
Frazetta is probably the best we're going to ever have for Fantastic Art, he's the real deal: no copying photo's here. You could put the Egyptian Queen (or many of Frazetta's best) beside a Great like Da Vinci, or Vermeer, and it wouldn't look out of place (though sometimes the subject matter would). How many Artists of today can you say that of?
O my bad then. I wonder who would be more important to their genre, Frazetta to fantasy illustration or Kirby to comics? I guess it has to be Kirby however Frazetta has been cited by many artists from different areas as being an influence to them
Why does everyone use Boris and Frazetta in the same sentence? Greg Hilderbrandt is much more better painter/designer than Boris. Boris is a Perubian cartoonist. Brom is better than Boris. Julie Bell is the best female artist in the world. Her water colors are the shit. If she would only break off from his style. FREE JULIE BELL! Boris is tacky perfect cheesy. Frazetta art is no photogragh! FRAZETTA SPOILED ROTTEN!
I really believe that Frank Frazetta is thee best artist ever period! and why I say that think that frank has never used pictures all his drawings and paintings are from his imagination, and when looking at them they diffidently spark worlds of wonder in your imagination god bless Frank. and Thank-you god for giving us such a gift!
Frank Frazetta is still alive and living somewhere in the Pocono mountains of my home-state (Pennsylvania). However, he's very old and I'm not sure if he still does any artwork. A museum of his illustrations just opened a couple years ago and you can visit its website online.
Bet your butt he still paints. Visit the museum in PA, I did and got a personal tour! The museum just opened in May of 2007. He showed me his latest painting, done with his left hand, since he cannot use his right any more.
The Vampy/Lizard painting commissioned in 1998-99 Harris comics was done left handed. Vampy has a soft fuzzy look to her, absolutly stunning! The stone work on the floor is perfict art like the Vegas painting! My favorite Vampy oil. He is both handed now in the brain, using all of his brain. He's trapped in a decaying body. An oil painting takes 3 days instead of one. If evey artist made themselves both handed they would become better! It look me a year to feel normal. I wish I was born left.
Thanks for posting this,Frazetta for me one of the best(cause there are so many),like:Boris,Julie,Elmore,Islei,Joe Jusco(Vampirella),Alex Ross,Achielos,Luis Rollo,Milo Manara,Texeira,Petter Roseller,Sam Keith,Todd Macfarlene,Marc Silvestri,J.Gonzales(Vampirella),etc.
Im still waiting for this movie to come out in the U.K., in fact ive been waiting for about 33 years for this...looks like ill have to get it on NTSC.
Absolutely LOVE the "moving Conan" sequence in the opening! That's what Fire and Ice was supposed to look like...Easier to do,nowadays, than it was back then... Think of the possibilties.A Death Dealer movie that actually looks like moving Frazetta pictures...BAM!!!
When I was a teen,in the mid-70's,I saw a black and white picture of Vampirella. She was the most beautifull woman I had ever seen, and she was just a drawing.Well, not just a drawing, she was a Frazetta!!! I have been a great admirer of his work ever since.I have five of his books.I'm thinking about this fabled DVD.Thanx.
what a great trailer!! frank frazetta has been a huge influence and inspiration to me as an artist!! what an amazing fella eh?! thanks for posting this!! :)

Frazetta art is no photogragh! FRAZETTA SPOILED ROTTEN!

I was at his museum this weekend. The paintings are absolutly phenominal to look at. They jump out of the frame. His wife is an awsome woman too.

Frank is one of the few artists whose work hits you like a ton of bricks. Every museum needs several Frazettas.

Frank Frazetta must have gone through a lot in life though, to create such amazing pictures, as is evident in his work in Fire And Ice.
