I think you're confusing "free" with "freedom." In the United States we're supposed to have freedoms and liberties, but they are not "free." People have to work for it, some had to fight for it, some died for it. Campaigning costs money. All the ads, bumper stickers, lawn signs, everything has to be paid for.
