sounds aakey live but you have to be watching the video or be there live otherwise it's the original recording...the copy I put in my record collection back in "62.
Believe it or not, I am a 25 year old guy. Growing up I had a huge family and all of my brothers listened to hip hop and my parents listened to Country. I don't know how or why but I have always listened to "Oldies." It is the best music ever. Nothing compares, even though I am also a Country fan. "Oldies" makes me feel so happy and pure...I wish it were on every radio station but at least I can still listen to it online. Man, I would have loved the 50's 60's and 70's.
@byrunbower Hey you certainly missed out on the main music time, but look on the good side you are only 25!! The 60's music will live on forever when all the reat disappears.
Beautiful. This was the time in the USA when a tallented kid could go from soldering wires at a factory to become a successful music star. Great times.
Another great artist from the 60's. That's when music was "music", something you could relate to, and understand. It had a beat, unlike the junk today. I feel sorry for anyone not born early enough to have enjoyed the sounds. I will always listen to this music....The greatest...
Fantastic song! So much to study with this style of music; it leads into so many other forms: rockabilly, surf, new wave. Just add a harder edge to it - so much to play with here for songwriting. :)
I remember playing this record when I was a kid. My name is Shiela and I guess my dad or bro must have got it for me. I am thinking it was firsts released in 1962 - the year I was born.. confused lol
Always a nostalgic time to think about, West End, Brown High School, a great art teacher Ms. Ann Liggin and best high school ever along with a favorite school remembrance with Tommy Roe's music. Never forget it. "William"

I remember it well! Not only was there a beautiful neighborhood girl named Sheila that I loved and wanted to sing this song to, but, this song was cutting edge, high energy rock & roll in 1962.
I was still a bit young but this music made my wedding package package throb, and I knew I wanted to rub it up against some girls!
Great memories. I had the good fortune to see Tommy Roe in concert in 1962. He topped the bill at the Liverpool Empire. Also on that bill was Chris Montez (of Let's Dance fame) who was also terrific and a local group called the Beatles.
@mischievouspineapple: Well, one of the reasons that you may love it is that it's as if it was lifted straight out of Buddy Holly's note pad. You can't wrong imitating Buddy--a young Lennon and McCartney used him as their mentor as well and as is evident in many of their early creations.
@plutoplatters Oh, of course I'll take into account the opinion of someone bitter enough to get riled up over a song. It wasn't a personal attack directed at you, so take it easy.
my grandma told my mom and her bros and sisters that she used to date Tommy Roe and when they broke up he wrote this song... HER NAME IS SHEILA!! HOW WEIRD IS THAT!!!!! they were never dating though.... XD good gag joke though....
This is a beautiful song I can't stop listening to it, Michael J. Fox mentioned this song in his latest book "Always looking up" and how he and his siblings sang it at his oldest sister's Karen's funeral. It is sweet song and so easy to remember once you hear it you can't get enough of it and you never forget how it sounds.
I LOVE this! It brings me back to 1964 when Tommy came back from Viet Nam (he served in the Army) and I heard him sing live at the Seattle Center. Thanks for posting this video!
This was playing on the radio as my dad was driving to the hospital when I ws born (1969). I love this song!!! I have neither ponytails or blue eyes but that is ok.
Tommy actualy wrote this this song with the name Freda, but then changed it to Shelia. either way it is still a fun ,happy song. No one can put on a show like Tommy!!!
@scrott18 i have a theory that girls like songs with their names in them like a girl i know named sherry likes the song sherry by the four seasons there used to be a 3 legged irish setter around here named sheba

I remember back in the late 60's my girl friends and I found out where Paul Revere and The Raiders were staying when they were touring through Fort Worth TX. We went to the hotel and met Tommy Roe as well as other band members. The best part was Tommy gave me a kiss on the cheek. I thought I died and went to heaven. Those were the fun good ol' days.
I love this song so much!!! My grade five teacher used to play this for us on his guitar, Mr. Knutson was so awesome at the guitar!!! But he was like a hippie... Ha ha ha, hippies smell. I can't belive he still teach's he is 60 years-old!!! :D
This is the song that introduced to Tommy Roe. I first like everybody else thought it was Buddy Holly. My favorite Tommy Roe songs are Shelia, Oh Sweet Pea, Dizzy and Horay For Hazel. I love Tommy Roe.
This is the first song I remember. I was living on Madeline Island in 1962 and my mom's little brother gave me a pet rabbit and I named it Sheila because I loved the song, the rabbit and the name, Sheila.
My name is Sheila & my dad always sings me this song!
