It's always kinda weird listening to concerts from another era, hearing the chairs bang as they stand up between movements to stretch their legs, hearing them cough to clear their throats. They're probably all dead now.
Ah, Ravel can be played with warmth and gorgeous tone instead of dry French "style;" this is simply fabulous, masterful playing that moves me deeply. de Groot deserves to be much more widely known; thanks to you, he can be. The video says "Willem Van" is the conductor, not Eduard Van Beinum. Is this Van Otterloo?
