@iolantham hm, I don't think he's joking, but I don't think he quite means it either. I think it's a love song actually. My interpretation of the song would be that after their break up (after she left, in fact, because this song is like the sequel of another song of his, "To S'agapo", which is a love song where she leaves him) they tried to be friends, but it didn't seem to work.
