Actually, there have been 6 white sharks in captivity at the Monterey Aquarium. We just had our 6th shark there that lived there for 55 days. Our first shark was there for 162 days before being released back in the wild. So that would be a little over 6 months in captivity. Before you say they never survived beyond 3 weeks, maybe you should make a trip to our aquarium and have a peek.

Also, great whites cannot survive in captivity, they haven't figured out why yet, but they haven't been able to keep any alive in captivity longer than 3 weeks. If they could, that would be one hell of an attraction. Funny commercial though!

Actually, a few years back the Monterey Bay Aquarium managed to house a 3-4 year old female Great White shark for about six months. I lived in the area at that time and got to see it myself! Really cool. (: It ate a bunch of other sharks/tuna in the tank, though, they had a room-filling one about four times bigger than the one in the video. After that period of time, they released it back into the wild where she was caught.
