They go to Poland and this foggy area has a cursed statue, if you look at it, you will be possessed. The ppl in the robes are actually the good guys, not the bad ones. They see the demon faces because the possession is starting to take over. So anyone that actually stares at the statue, well has to die basically. It explains it well at the end.
